I imagine his newfound sympathy for the victims families stems more then a little bit from the fact that at least one of them has vowed to campaign against him. Typical republican fraud. The media blindfold on this man is not surprising given how little scrutiny was given to "dubya" when he was in this same position. Only recently did "Newsweek" acknowledge he used to be a whore for the tobacco lobby and I'm not holding my breath anyone else, especially on TV, will pick up the story.
Huckabee's profound niavete is a perfect example of why religion should be kept out of political, even on a local level, decisions. After the past seven years and still no impeachment with still thousands willing to defend Bush because they still see him as God's own representative on Earth, however, I don't think anyone learned anything.
that the best Superman on the shelf is an Earth-1 rehash. Morrison's stories look like they were retellings from 1963 (and anyone familiar with Superman lore knows that's a compliment!), and given what a train wreck Superman's mainstream origin is these days, it's probably a good thing he skipped over that part all together. Though Morrison may go back to it later, who knows.
DC has jumped the shark creatively, with every new writer trying to turn Superman's past into their own little fan fiction. They've been trying to "fix" Superman's origin for 20 years now. If they can't get it right by now, it's time to retrun everything to what it was before. It may have been a little cheesy, but at least it was stable.
I wonder how many teen pregnancies could have been avoided in that time? The "Pro-life" crowd must be so proud! Oh, well, what do they care? After the child is born, it's not their problem anymore, is it?
is that society doesn't need religion or "faith". The whole "The divinity of Jesus is too important to investigate" crap was enough to convince me this guy is full of shit. I haven't read all of the responses, though I'm sure there are probably a few "Your all fools! Accept Jesus! Vote republican!" trolls on here. There always are with these things. But the traditional argument that society needs religion to prevent chaos simply doesn't hold water anymore. Most atheists are law abiding citizens who pay their taxes and go to work and donate to the Salvation Army this time of year so the idea that piety is needed for a "moral" society doesn't cut it.
Perhaps the reason "heathens" like Dawkins and Hitchens and the like are so appealing is because religion has become so unappealing these days. Most churches in America care more about your sex life than your soul and openly condemn policies designed to clean up your air and water and help the poor (you know, the people Jesus was most concerned with) and make healthcare more affordable. To be honest, I'm surprised they haven't lost more adherents just for those stunts alone.
When we look at those trying to do these things, most of them are not from the Jesus camp (or at least not the fundamentalist wing) but are those wacky heathens who couldn't see that Bush was God's representative here on earth. If the conventional excuse for religion (IE, that religion is needed to keep order in society) is not only no longer applicable, and in fact has been inverted where it actually is creating more problems then it solves, as I believe it is doing today, then perhaps it is time to openly talk of getting rid of it. If those on the other side want to talk about religion in the public square, then perhaps the need for religion itself is where that conversation should start.
Because if you have to write one saying it's not okay to have sex with someone WHILE THEIR UNCONCIOUS then I'm thinking they don't.
Maybe they should get around to that "killing people who want to remain alive" problem next, you think?
What's that? Isn't that something they used to have back in the seventies? Could somebody explain this?
Most of them readily admit that the actual success rate is irrelevant. To many of them, it's a "morality" issue. Idealogy takes precedent over practicle matters. And to "anon": my mother was born in the time of "shame them" and she could tell you that teen pregnancies were not as uncommon as you would like to think they were. She was adopted because her birth mother was forced to give her up due to the attitude of the time. She wasn't allowed to know anything about her birth mother and it emotionally scarred her for life. That doesn't sound like the kind of America I want to return to.
He doesn't have any real problems to worry about. He doesn't have to worry about healthcare, or retirement, or a living wage, or job security, or any number of other real problems that his listeners do. But I guess as long as he keeps railing aginst "queers" and "liberals" and "traitors" and "elites" and "intellectuals" and pretends that he supports the troops by saying everything in the war is going well, they'll keep falling for him.
How's condemning Jamie Lynn Spears for having a kid out of wedlock helping to put food on your tables guys? Ha! Ha!
