Once again, the media has dropped the ball. These guys get to call themsleves "values voters" because no one in the media has bothered to challenge their claim on the term. How hard would it be to get Gary Buaer on "Meet the Press" and ask him why his group should get to determine what "values" are? This is just like the culture war as a whole. It only became a real issue because the republicans woke up one day and decided to go on TV and call it one. With no challenge from the media asking "Wait a minute, why is this important?" Maybe I should make up an issue that doesn't exist and claim it as a legitimate concern. Apparently anybody can.
These people are trying to reduce gays to sub-human status and the media looks on. They are trying to ignore scientific reality both in terms of the age of the Earth and pregnancies and the media looks on. They think the tax payers should help them use the school system to recruit other people's kids to their faith and the media looks on. "Well , that's just those 'values' voters for you, they're just 'concerned' about the direction of the country." Aren't we all. The difference is, most of us aren't trying to say that our fellow Americans don't have a place here just because they don't think like us. The "treat everyone equally" mentality guiding the media today is killing this country.
I got news for you, people whose biggest concern is transexuals on TV and challenging science that doesn't tell them what they want to hear are not out to protect anyone from anything, they are out to run your life and create a society where anyone who doesn't live their life like a fifties TV show is a big evil other. The woman from podunk nowhere who thinks she's gonna get "blown up" is proof at how effective this kind of simplistic thinking works.
their too busy trying to get the whole shebang outlawed. As for the government going after porn, why are you surprised? it's not like they have any real problems to worry abo-oh, wait, never mind.
So he's an "ex-gay"...oh good, that means he doesn't buy into the "their out to get your children" crap spewed by his colleagues? And in fact CONDEMNS such lies?
Yeah, I'm not holding my breath on that one either.
If this guy is an "ex-gay", then he must certainly understand that being attracted to someone of the same sex isn't a "choice". Which means he's also doing a lot to dispel that myth too, right?
If this guy is truly an "ex-gay" and is now playing for the other side (politically, anyway) then he has an obligation to go out of his way to discredit these lies that the James Dobsons and Pat Robertsons of the world put out there about gays. If he does not, that is the same thing as saying "yes, I did try and recruit children" or "yeah, I just woke up one day and decided to be attracted to guys". Everytime one of those idiots goes on the air and suggests these things, then at one point and time, they were talking about him! Next time he performs at Rod Parsleys World Harvest Church or one of those "Let's turn America into a theocracy" rallies, he might want to think about that.
because the right wing trolls are out in full force. They wouldn't bother if they truly thought he was wrong. Apparently the right thinks that when you put toxic chemicals into the atmosphere, Jesus makes them magically disappear.
Yes, when you put toxic chemicals into the air, Tinker Bell makes them magiacally disappear! God, you cons really are as stupid as I thought you were! I also love how the only argument anyone has against it is the economy, as if the laws of physics give a rats ass about making money!
Even closet case "Savage" knows that environmentalists don't fight to preserve trees only to set them on fire, but if you people really think that you can put toxic chemicals into the air and have them magically go away, you really are stupid enough to believe anything!
It's ironic that no one would have thought anything of a commercial like this 20 years ago. We seem to be absolutely obsessed with gender roles today and I think the right is completely to blame. Their irrational fear of homosexuality has created a whole new market in and of itself. A commercial like this almost seems like it is saying to the heartland crowd: "It's okay, we get it, we understand what boys and girls are SUPPOSED to be. You can trust us." It's like they are selling a vacine for gayness.
Out here in the red states, many people never got the memo that they were supposed to stop supporting Bush. They also never got the memo that WMDs and an Al Queda connection were never found either. That "Silent Majority" still exists sadly enough, it just cares about the wrong things like gay marraige, abortion, evolution in schools, and the creeping intrusion of "political correctness" in society. That is how we got to where we are.
The dissenters are much more vocal now then we used to be, but it still doesn't change the fact that the "Dead Enders" of the Bushies still write in to dominate the paper and will not hesitate to tell you what they think because they still believe they are in the majority. In this part of the country, they may be right.
I don't fear Bush and Cheney half as much as a fear their supporters. These people don't care about real problems and they will make the next preident's life a living hell if the democrats win.
"The gays...sic 'em!"
