  • Let 'em walk!

    Seriously.

They've been claiming for years that they represent the majority of "God fearing Americans"; fine, let 'em prove it. Set up their own party and candidates, we'll see how far their no compromise attitude gets them when or if they even get elected and have to actually deal with other people.

Most of the guys in that meeting it sounds like have never had to deal with anyone who disagrees with them for longer then it takes to appear on the TODAY show, lets see how well they do on Capital Hill when they actually have to sit there and listen to those satanic democrats without the advantage of shutting their mike off or framing the questions in a way that makes them look good.

Anything that splits the GOP can't be a bad thing.

  • The "Leather Festival" in San Fransisco comment proves that all conservatives hate gays...

and why are a bunch of "moral absolutists" accepting money from an alcoholic beverage company?

  • You should have kept responding to him

Reminding him that Bush and Cheney never served. Trust me, I've fought these people before, their arguments begin to dry up pretty quick if you keep reminding them of that. You could have one that one.

  • So this guys not even a real vet...

    that sounds like the right.

  • Perhaps someone would like to explain how the republican party represents Jesus...

[Read the article: Religious right may blackball Giuliani]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Is it the way they try and screw over the poor? Is it the way they try and portray all gays as pedophiles and deny them the same rights straights have (and I used to listen to Dobson, so don't try and tell me he didn't do that)?

Is it the way they try and make it easier for gang members to get assualt rifles so they can kill more people?

Is it the way they try and destroy God's creation?

Is it the way they keep people from being able to afford decent healthcare?

Is it the way they start unnecessary wars for profit?

Is it the way they let big business off the hook when it hurts its customers/employees/investors?

I look forward to hearing which one of these "values" was best exemplified by Jesus.

  • I have a feeling in the rights ideal America you wouldn't exist there either...

[Read the article: Angry, hateful liberal bloggers]

both as a liberal and as a gay man. Don't think for a second the far right in this country wouldn't kill you also.

  • On gays and abortions...

[Read the article: Beyond the Multiplex]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Anyone who opposes gay rights hates gays. Period. If you have a gay child and you don't support gay marraige, you hate your child because your trying to deny them the same rights you have.

    Now, on to abortion...

One poster asked earlier why women who have abortions aren't being criminalized as well as the doctors. I have asked this question to several anti-abortion activists and to this day still have not gotten an answer. You can't have it both ways, people, the woman is just as responsible as the doctor is. How do you reconcile that ones in your mind? She is not a "victim" if she is fully aware of what she is doing. We don't let people get away with murder just because they are emotionally distraught at the time. If a woman kills her husband for cheating on her because she was angry with him at the time, most jury's aren't just going to let her walk for it.

  • Dobson might do it, but so what?

[Read the article: James Dobson's Rudy problem]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that I don't think that Dobson holds as many cards as he thinks he does. This is a man who probably hasn't even been in the same room with someone who disagress with him in nearly 30 years. I think Dobson will support a third party candidate because he's done it before, in 1996. That doesn't mean his listeners will, many have acknowledged, including Richard Land, that they would be willing to hold their nose and vote for a Guilliani or a McCain if it means defeating Hillary. I guess their hatred for her trumps all else.

I live in the bible belt and (to paraphrase Shakespear) the rumors of our morality are greatly exagerated. I live near a small city in Missouri and I can think of at least four porn shops in the area alone. Mostly because they advertise on late night TV. There are more gay people here then you might expect and I've noticed more of a leaning towards libertarianism in recent years. The religious right's days may really be numbered.

As for America's "christian heritage", when someone can show me in the constitution where it says that the government was meant to force christianity on everyone, then I'll believe it. But I'm not holding my breath! People in America will never accept forced religion. The T-shirts at my local red-state mall are proof of that.

  • Irony really is dead...

    [Read the article: Various items]

"During the "debate" over whether to invade Iraq, the dominant argument was: Either (a) you want to go to war against Iraq or (b) you are pro-Saddam and in favor of rape rooms and the genocide of Kurds.

Now, the argument from the same crowd is: Either (a) you support a war against Iran or (b) you are pro-Ahmadinejad, want to see Israel destroyed, and favor the execution of homosexuals."

The irony is that many of the people who want war with Iran ALSO favor the execution of homosexuals!
