I remember Salon readers wanted to have Keith's baby

Remember back when? He was the new Ed Murrow. You people practically threw your panties at him.

In a similar vein, did you see that Jon Stewart had Coldplay on last night. It's all going to shit, isn't it?

OPEC President said today

Oil will go to $170/bbl 'soon' as in this year. $200 oil by 2010 is pipesmoke. We will get there mid 2009 the latest.

Thank god or allah that the Iranians have spent all their money building nuclear weapons and not refineries. Because that price hurts them as much as it hurts us. They import 80% of their refined product.

Ramon

High prices actually hurt your beloved Iran. They import more than 80% of their own refined product.

Original article: Is the Pill "outdated"?

It's axiomatic

We need to drop everything and invest another eleventy trillion dollars in finding a new way for women to have vaginal intercourse w/o the risk of breeding.

But you are not going to simply ignore the 2A just because that's how you personally feel about it

The long and the short of it is you have 3 choices:

a) Ignore it and pretend it's not there at all.

b) Interpret it absolutely.

c) Interpret it contextually.

Now anti gun liberals are not going to be able to get away with a) unless and until you alter the Constitution. Which is possible but not likely. So that leaves b) which is the view of things or c) which is the somewhat more nuanced anti-NRA view of things.

About 22% of all oil in the US is used in the food production-distribution cycle. I for one would be happy to restrict the amount of food Americans get their hands on, if only to slim down their fat wasteful asses. I little hunger would be fine by me if it means keeping the air and water clean. In fact perhaps we should start with the problem that way: cut food by a tenth in the US and you automatically save all this oil.

Original article: Ask the pilot

America is geographically too big

It's time to cut it up into smaller independent countries. The South will be happy to finally be allowed to secede. So would all the other regions. With the increase in cost, the notion of a single coherent country this large is antiquated. No one from Virginia is going to able to travel to Montana. No one from Maine is going to fly to New Mexico. That way, domestic flights become local and long range flights are international, e.g. rare and expensive. That way the airlines can afford to offer service somewhere above the level of cattle car to Sobibor and people who can pay for it will be happy to. If air travel volume was reduced by 80% then that would be an optimum point for availability vs cost.

Art Porn

Every once in a while there's an art porn flick. Wasn't there a Japanese hard core movie in the 1970s ostensibly based on the 'true' story of Geisha who killed and mutilated her lover? Art porn.

Just write state laws

That compel the state to take care of ALL unwanted children on the state's dime through age 18. Abortion is one thing, sanctity of life blah blah blah but when it comes to true holiness there is nothing higher than the tax dollar. You would see rock ribbed Baptists running to get abortions faster than you can say 'tax increase'.

The problem with Dawkins

Is that, in a very UN scientific pose, he allows for absolutely zero plausibility that anyone on Earth could ever have faith. He simply denies the possibility.

And, I would add

The loudest and angriest among you have dabbled in Buddhism and Hinduism w/o shame or confusion.

It's called pandering to the Hispanic vote.

Original article: Dalai Lama's time bomb

Violence would be a mistake

But once it erupted, western liberals would loudly support its victimhood revolutionary politics. They never met a 'people's uprising' they didn't love. El Salvador, Nicaragua, Cuba, Vietnam, Cambodia, China, Soviet Union, Angola, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia, Palestine....

The expectation of annoying behavior is worse than annoying behavior

My spouse is great big bundle of annoying tics, quirks, affectations, obnoxious speech patterns, weird counterintuitive difficulties and stubbornness. But it's nothing compared to her useless high maintenance relatives. Just the idea that one of them is going to do something irritating makes me want smash someone in the face with a 26oz framing hammer.

Will Smith being the Fresh Prince with super powers, high on crack

Yeah that's a new and brilliant turn.

BTW his character was a dick in "I am Legend", which is kind of the point. He was a dick too in "Hitch" but in movies where the man is a dick and he STILL gets the girl, that's called a romantic comedy.

Will Smiff is kinda a dick.

You're probably not a super model either, dear.

And what you would find is that men are generally attracted to someone who's not a micromanaging bitch with a martyr complex. Is there a lotion for that?

"Flaked out"?

Is that what they're calling manic depressive alcoholics now? Or just Scientologists?

It's Farmageddon!!!

Don't worry hipsters. The customers at Wal*Mart and the Farmer's Market are two different clusters of consumers and never the twain shall meet.

How much carbon was gassed out printing the book

Ooooh, that stings like getting slapped in the face.

Wednesday, July 2, 2008 08:53 AM

So does this mean

That $2 billion a year in direct military aid to Egypt (in addition to a new $13 billion over 10 year pending agreement), $10 billion in extremely favorable no interest loans to Saudi Arabia, an additional $20 billion package to Saudi Arabia and neighboring Gulf States, $450 million a year in direct military aid to Jordan (including a staging area for US troops stationed there today), $250 million in military 'assistance' to the PA, $6.5 billion with a B in military aid to Pakistan, as well as aid and American bases in Yemen, Qatar, Kuwait

Will stop in the Barackaverse?

Those evil Jews controlling the American government and forcing them to arm all those Arab states. That's so evil.

Whatever happens in the Barackaverse

Stays in the Barackaverse.
