Sleestak

No not really. Not every child is going to grow up to make conference calls to the Philippines and Argentina. You live in a place in a region. I grew up in Flushing Queens which is 90% Asian and 10% Afghani. The Asians are 70% Korean and 30% Japanese more or less. Spanish is useless there.

BTW go to any high school in America and almost all the students taking Spanish language classes are already native speakers of Spanish.

I don't have 7:21 to watch this crap

You mean Uncle Sam and Betsy Ross on a Red Honda Full Dresser wasn't stupid?

Killers tend to be, well... killers

Cheaters cheat, liars lie. You can't punish a hound for being a hound. It's not a sin, it's their nature. The thing I'm always drawn to are the victims of personalities like this. What induces them to ignore the signs and stick around. What exactly did the successful and apparently intelligent and educated Mrs. Reiser get out of sticking with Hans.

Here at Salon all parades are stupid

Except for the gayest of the flaming gay Gay Pride parades. Those are crisp and earnest social commentary.

Why not? It will balance out all my state and local tax increases this year

Property tax went up 70% this year with another 16% tax increase in the pipeline for Q4. Sales tax went up 0.25% this year. Water/Sewer/Garbage fees went up 24% this year. Hell even the filing fee for small claims court went from $15 to $75 this year. The state is also mulling a 16% rate increase for the electric utility and a 31% increase for the gas utility. And the state taxes and fees on phone services just went up another 5%.

I couldn't even tell you all the 'leisure' taxes like boat landings, fishing and hunting licenses, campsite fees etc. because even if I could afford them I do those things. But some of them have doubled and tripled this year.

Or why she's been coming to the gym for 10 years and hasn't lost a pound. Is cake a vegetable?

Original article: Hurricane Iran

Back when oil was $50/bbl

The Iranians said openly that no one would ever stop them in their quest for The Bomb because no one would ever tolerate $140/bbl oil. Seems they were wrong on that point.

Iran has 25% unemployment (official), 20% inflation and gets 80% of their export revenue from oil, but also imports 80% of their refined product. I wonder how bombastic they will be with food shortages? I blame the evil Zionist thugs and their control of all food in the world. The Felafel Mafia must be destroyed!

chiefpayne

Please don't use the French as a benchmark. My wife speaks French and was routinely ignored because of her non Parisian accent. I found that screaming at them in German got their attention.

If you don't fix the AMT you will destroy this country

No nation can function w/o a middle class and unless you fix or do away with the AMT that's what you will get. When it was erected perhaps 3% of the base fell into the AMT. Now even with every annual stopgap about a quarter of the middle class falls into it. In a 3 years or about that as much as 75% of the middle class could be crushed by the AMT. It can represent as much as a 40% tax increase for some households. That is confiscation levels of taxation. I think you will find a mass exodus to tax expatriate land if you don't fix this. Not just the wealthy mind you but households in the 90-150k range, aka the backbone of this country. Remember that needs testing is based on pre tax income so with the government taking all that extra money you still won't be eligible for financial aid for college for instance. And the middle class can't afford college or basic living necessities it's all over.

It wouldn't matter what kind of clearance you were granted

It's compartmentalized at lateral levels anyway. So even if you had 'Top' clearance it wouldn't provide blanket access to anything just because it was labeled 'Top'.

BTW even a lower level clearance like Sci/Tech takes 18 months to get.

What's the next item on the checklist of things JFK did?

Just be careful Obama doesn't go all the way to the last item on that list. Or was that too obscure?

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 01:45 PM

If you feel that strongly about it

Simply confiscate everything, 100% above some random number, say, $200,000. If you make more than that we just take it. In Europe the effect of high taxation is twofold. One, the obvious one is tax expatriation. The other, is noncash compensation such as free housing, education, live in staff, cars, etc etc etc. Either way would work for me.

Or as Kennedy said

"I am a pastry!"

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 01:53 PM

Sprints version

The Samsung Instinct, has the same basic problem. They soak you on the plan. Apparently you can't buy one w/o also getting the $100/month flat rate everything plan for 2 years. So at $130 for the phone it's $2,530 plus bullshit taxes and fees. And lest you think 'everything' means everything, there's a download cap of ~5GB/month or something like that.

Where's your god now?

Obama the molten god.

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 01:57 PM

I found it get-by-able

To function in French West Africa with a little French patois but mostly English. Anyone you hire to staff in your home generally speaks a little bit of English.

The finer point really is, that if you need to round up some roofers at Home Depot and none of them speak English, they're generally all here illegally. Thanks for the support with that.

Why not simply legislate maximum consumption

Regulate power utilities to the extent that 1 household of a given size can't get more than X power. To do with as you wish. Everyone talks a big game about regulating someone else but no one's really prepared to live it.

It will be a good excuse to bring more illegal aliens to the US

To drive our own labor costs ever lower. Hell why not bring back slavery?

I think you have officially gone insane

Next up, gender inequality in Second Life and how the Militia Etheridge will combat it.

Mass rallies. Speeches at the Gates of Germania

Obama is channeling Albert Speer now not just JFK.

But not if they cost a dollar more than you want to pay. Then they're faux elitist crap, aren't they?
