When books like this come out I check the index for the term "public choice theory". If it's not there, I save my money, because that is the Rosetta Stone of American politics. Otherwise, the factor that I have noticed in my Republican peers after intense effort to understand why they believe as they do: a lack of curiosity based on a rational decision that the investment of time needed to study serious scholarly history is not worth the effort in practical results. (a pure "public choice" example) Many on the left are similarly motivated.
Well, it's good to keep these hacks on the defensive while they're out there smearing real law enforcement like Spitzer. Spitzer is the main terrorist captured by the "Justice" department, saving the wealthiest international criminals trillions. Secret police, private death squads like Blackwater, Clinton financed by Colombian thugs and fronting for them. The missing ingredient in our failed state seems to be a vital insurgency. Obviously all that expensive face reading software and DNA logging has pacified the pesky Iraqis perfectly. The people selling this total rectum exam program aren't planning to be based in the US anyway. I doubt even they believe it will work or care. The slightest thought tells you not addressing the cause is what creates insurgency, not lack of state repression tools. If you need a hint, you could do worse than Ted Turner.
Glenn, your naming of names is itself the greatest evidence of dictatorship as none are owners and the organizations they belong to, but only hired sophists. Real journalism in American history has given the big picture behind the veil, and that ceased 50 years ago with mass media corporate concentration. At this point we are beyond journalism, as critical thinking itself has been systematically stripped from education and replaced by the cultivation of uncritical desire for products. Indeed, the very purpose of television is to sell the power to deliver uncritical consumers to advertisers, particularly the political advertisers, along with nurturing docile assent to corporate serfdom.
There is one fact I think that by itself tells everything you need to know about American media: The Nation panned Adam Curtis--gave him to a Neocon hack to "review" the most important television of the last decade. That's when I tuned out the entire dialogue of "right" and "left". We are such children that the products of even the former British Empire's finest journalists can't be permitted to be seen here, and must be neutralized and spun for us even by the alleged independent left.
If the voters are capable of thinking critically at all about the sewage fed to them from the Edward Bernays playbook, do you really think they won't come to the same conclusions as Germans in the 30's: that a treasonous racist elite is molding policies based on pauperizing them? The real elitists take their guidance form scripture. Charles Gibson's face is the embodiment of the contempt they feel for the fools that follow them. They think the control of information is the leverage Hitler or Stalin were missing to enforce domination on the world. Now they have it under "Homegrown Terorism" overtly as well as covertly. The teams are already in place if Obama is able to overcome the rigged election.
Passover was a blood sacrifice of infidels--a defining act of a tribal god of racist vengeance whose karma resonates through history. It is archetypal for Jewish supremist theology shared by a tiny minority of cowardly nerds dragging the world into conflagration and destroying the noble and innocent majority of Jews in the process. How they must laugh in their privileged Town and Country lives as the billions pile up and the stupid Americans send their children to die and watch their transparent lies stream over the land like a bad Vaudeville act. They can speak of Passover and think no American will bother to think what it represents. Sad.
The War rest on four pillars of amnesiac Neo-Imperial Hubris: Israel, the dollar, corporate oil companies, and in your face anti-historical radicalism. The purpose of the corporate media is to never let anyone think about any of these essentials. It is achieved by focusing on tactics, much as a Hollywood's obsessive diversion to the personal experiences of grunts for its war movies of the last 60 years, in which we are fanatically prevented from examining history.
One cannot read but a few pages into the Art of War, Musashi, The Iliad, and such without the sinking feeling we are doomed to be led by men for whom such wisdom is deemed to be superseded by childlike belief in technology and statistics. It is a tragedy to lose one's civilization, one's treasure, and one's honor and not gain the wisdom of the synthesis of actually engaging the enemy face to face. History teaches two things, as far back as one celled organisms: to be an empire is to become a mixture with the culture controlled, right down to our DNA, and war is one of three inevitable consequences of overpopulation, nothing more.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, all we need to know about the so called "other side" to Neoconservatives is that the ostensible flagship of the Left went out of their way to discredit what savvy readers here have observed is the masterpiece of contextual journalism on American policy.
