If there were no superdelegates
[Read the article: Whose fault is the Clinton-Obama stalemate?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Obama would have won by now. He has enough delegates that Hillary can't catch up. However, Hillary hasn't lost because the superdelegates might come to her rescue and change the will of the voters. That's why the press says Hillary can't win w/o them and they don't say it about Obama. Without the superdelegates, this primary would be over.
While I'm not happy about the superdelegates role, I have to ask, would it be any better to have, like the Republicans, crowned the nominee before half the States in the country have voted?

Beating McCain and the working class
[Read the article: Whose fault is the Clinton-Obama stalemate?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The democratic primary is not about the issues. Hillary and Obama barely differ. When the general election comes, policies will matter. Please tell me how I-Don't-know-much-about-economics McCain attract the working class away from Obama. As one successful Dem once said, It's the economy, Stupid.

Conspiracy theorists at work again!
[Read the article: Whose fault is the Clinton-Obama stalemate?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I doubt the republican officials in Florida meant to sow confusion and discord when they picked their election date.
In a winner take all primary (like the Republican primary) being early matters a lot. McCain was chosen by the time only half the states had voted.
Take Penn. If I was a Democrat in PA, I'd be thrilled. The late primary meant that the candidates gave the state lots of personal attention that it wouldn't have got if it voted on SuperTuesday. Had PA gone for Obama, Hillary would have been finished and PA would have made it happen.
For the Reps, the story is completely different. Their voters had no reason to go to the polls. McCain was chosen long ago. PA's Republican primary was totally meaningless. If I were a Rep, I'd be planning to move PA's primary to January or February next time around.
So, my guess is that the Republican election officials in Florida wanted to avoid election oblivion for their party. They played chicken with the Howard Dean and the Dems lost.
I'd bet the Dems in Florida are furious. What will happen in 4 years if Florida and PA decide to vote in Jan? Who will blink first? My guess is that the Dems will be under a lot of pressure to accept a Florida and PA January primary. (Unless some systematic reform is taken.) Then, can you say Iowa and NH in December?

Which is worse?
[Read the article: The Democrats' God problem]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]A candidate who says:
"I have ever since I've been a little girl felt the presence of God in my life. And it has been a gift of grace that has for me been incredibly sustaining. But, really, ever since I was a child, I have felt the enveloping support and love of God. And I have had the experiences on many, many occasions where I felt like the holy spirit was there with me as I made a journey."
For the sheer cynicism of getting a few votes? Or one who actually means it?
Pardon me, I can't decide. I'm too busy gagging.

The comparison with 1965 was dumb
[Read the article: Pregnancy in the lap of luxury? ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]How many women in 1965 planned to return to work after their children were born? How many could return to work if they wanted to? The company my mother worked considered marriage fair grounds for firing women.

Obama can win
[Read the article: The Democrats' God problem]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Realclearpolitics.com has a listing of polls and a summary of them. Most polls show Obama beating McCain. Some show a tie.
On average, Hillary beats McCain, too, by a smaller margin and some polls show her losing.
Whoever the polls show winning now, the margins are very small, meaning they are subject to events: I can suggest a few:
Deeper delving into the millions raked in by the Clintons and the Clinton Library reveal lots of slime.
McCain gets a cold at the end of the general election campaign and looks like an old geezer with one foot in the grave.
Too many old pals of Obama's turn out to be too like Wright.

The purpose of this law is obviously to convince women to keep
[Read the article: Your fetus has fingernails ... and we're going to show them to you]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]their adorable babies. But I doubt it will do that. The cute baby ultrasounds shown in anti-abortion propaganda are third trimester babies (when abortions are, I believe, outlawed except in extreme cases).
Most abortions are done in the first trimester when the fetus is not very human looking. When I had my early ultrasounds, the doctor pointed to spots barely distinguishable from the surrounding nothing.
In short, the ultrasounds will probably do more to convince women that they AREN'T killing a human being than that they are.
