You need sun!
[Read the article: Nothing makes any sense anymore. I'm at the end of my rope]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If you're like me and live in the North and the winter was long, long and dreary. If spring is still something you hope for, not see out your window, take a week off and get some sun.
I'm depressed, too. I know it will improve when the weather improves.
Once you've solved the winter blues, take stock and figure out if you need to take further action

Of course Republicans vote in the Dem primaries
[Read the article: Memo to Clinton and Obama: Stop spinning]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The Republican candidate is chosen. There's no need to vote for him. Since the Dem is not, there's an opportunity to vote for the lesser of evils. Because any sensible voter, Republican or Democrat has to figure that the election will be close and there's a good chance of either candidate winning.
Maybe Hillary would be easier for McCain to beat, but before voting for her, Hillary haters have to consider that she stands a pretty good chance of winning. Who'd want to have helped vote in their worst nightmare?
Anyway, it's not on orders from Republican Central. It's common sense. And I'd think a lot of those votes represent who the Republicans think is better, not easier to beat.

Until gene therapy is more advanced,
[Read the article: Girls will be boys ... at women's colleges?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]humans born as girls will remain female, regardless of what kind of cosmetic surgery they undergo or drugs they take, so, yes, they have every right to go to women's colleges.

England has legal prostitution
[Read the article: Quote of the day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]And a big problem with trafficked, coerced illegal immigrant prostitutes. I suspect the problem is not the supply (the prostitutes and their working conditions) but the demand. Too many guys who buy sex don't give a damn about the humanity of the people from whom they buy it.
But that seems to be part of the service prostitution is selling -- sex without any emotional connection.
-
Yes.
[Read the article: Girls will be boys ... at women's colleges?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I don't see why cosmetic surgery changes things. There are people in this world who've modified their faces to look like cats or aliens.
Further, there are women, who have no wish to be perceived as male, who have bodies and faces that are not unambiguously female. Why should how a person looks affect how the college treats them?
That being said, I don't see why a woman who wants to be perceived as a man would go to a woman's college.

Marketing isn't concerned with what's right
[Read the article: News roundup: Girly drinks and peeping toms]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If so, there'd be no vodka marketing in Russia. Marketing cares about market size and the number of women drinking vodka is, apparently, large enough. Damskaya is chasing the market, not creating it.
And control of advertising has a ways to go in Russia. Cigarette ads are off TV, but the vodka ads aren't.

I thought Elliot Spitzer's real sin was hypocrisy
[Read the article: Another day, another sex scandal]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]And the fact that he'd pissed off so many people that they were eager for an excuse to get rid of him.
And I sure hope the new standard isn't to confess all sexual "sins" when elected. All we'd get is a bunch of Jim Bakker-like hypocrits.
The only reason people do confess is that infidelity isn't illegal. What would be interesting is confessing if, when, and how often they took bribes.

Northern European Cuisine is pretty similar
[Read the article: Borshch in the post-USSR]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]And a lot of Jewish cooking is from that area. I suspect the reason it's similar is that what will grow is similar and the houses were all heated with the same kind of stoves, making the cooking techniques similar.
Russia's Selyodka pod shubi (Herring under a furcoat is remarkably similar to Sweden's Silsalad (Pickled herring salad). Both are made with potatos, beets, and pickled herring and are delicious.
Russian, Swedish, Jewish and Bulgarian Cabbage rolls all have a lot of similarities.
Challah and Swedish coffee bread are similar.

The Sami women, like all women think
[Read the article: Are women biologically drawn to older men?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]They made a choice of mates. And some of that choice was conscious. I don't know much about Sami societies, but in many traditional societies, a woman's standard of living was based on her husband's skill as a provider.
Also, a woman's fertility is related to her nutritional status. The ability, to, say, get pregnant while nursing requires a lot of calories.
So, if older men have honed good hunting techniques and the women only chose the older men who have proved themselves successful, you might get the same higher fertility results with the women making conscious, not unconscious choices.
As many have pointed out, older men have proven their ability. (And the ones who haven't might not get chosen.)

Hillary couldn't give an Obama-like speech on gender
[Read the article: I'm no bigot, but you should meet my buddies]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Because she is where she is today because of who she married. A lot of the experience she's claiming, she earned as first lady - a position she got solely through her husband. Let's not forget that Hillary was something of a liability for Bill's campaign. He'd have had an easier time winning over the Reagan voters if she'd been a cookie-baking, stay-at-home mom.
Further, in her own campaigns for senator and president, she had the benefit of nation-wide name recognition and excellent contacts -- all developed by Bill.
Without Bill, Hillary would have been another Chris Dodd, struggling to make herself known. Maybe she'd have done it, maybe not.
So, while I'm sure Hillary faced and fought gender bias during her career and in her campaign, she is where she is today because of who she married, not who she is.

Sorry
[Read the article: I'm no bigot, but you should meet my buddies]

Bob
[Read the article: Are women biologically drawn to older men?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Hunting might be a cooperative endeavor, but I'll bet the men whose efforts brought the most rewards get a bigger share of the meat. When your spear or your arrow brings down the deer, you have a lot of say in how it gets carved up.
Plus, skills bring status. You regularly hit home runs for your team and they respect you. And status brings a bigger share of the spoils.
