What did focusing on the issues to for John Kerry? Talk about GOP character assassination. The Republicans are just getting it thrown back in their faces now with people spinning nasty rumors about Sarah Palin and her family, but when the shoe is on the other foot it's not so comfortable, is it? Sorry that's the way this election is going, but if you expect Democrats to just sit back and talk about the "issues" then you're just wanting them to lose. Sorry. The GOP are a bunch of hypocrites for telling us to back off of the personal scandal stories.

Still confused as to how the Republicans can moralize and legislate about people's sex lives for decades, and suddenly the VP's pregnant teen is "off limits" and "a private issue" - will any reporters ask about that? I haven't seen a single one of the delegates called out on this hypocrisy. I think this election is going to make my head explode.
I know so many people who were seriously mentally distressed after the last election. I've thought that some of them might become suicidal if we lose again. I can't even speak to anyone who supports McCain, it's to hard to wrap my mind around why anyone would think that way. I don't see the point in continuing to work for societal change if we can't manage to do it this time. Maybe other readers can offer coping tips. I'll try to canvas, etc., but I live in NYC so not really going to convert anyone here.
Were your 2 older children this way also? Surely you could remember. I have two sons, the first one was a total pain-in-the-ass all the way from the day he was born up until today (5 yrs old), and I fully admitted it to every parent I met. The second one has been a total delight - rarely crying, smiles at everyone, happy all the time, and he's cruising through the "terrible" twos with no problem. Yeah, some kids are just obnoxious. I'm sure my older one will be successful in other ways, though. Hang in there.
This is just the right tone. I also held a garage sale for Obama this weekend and people were just forking over money (without even buying anything). They were all fired up. Remember, we have a base, too.
Rush is being unfairly attacked! I'm sorry, even his fans have to see the irony / hypocrisy in that.
His diversionary tactics are amazing. Is anyone actually falling for it? Good move by Obama stating that McCain has adopted many of his (Obama's) ideas about the economy - but I don't know any independent/swing voters, so I can't tell. Obama should definitely show up at the debate on Friday, and just make a personal address to the nation.
I really did think, until just now, that they were pulling off some kind of sneaky Karl Rove-esque trick that would somehow come off as genius in the end, but this seals the deal. McCain's people have no idea what they are doing at this point.
You are probably angry at all of the people she reminds you of -- mean girls in high school, uptight scolds, and various other moralistic hypocrites. This is what I think of when I get angry about this election. It's not the candidates themselves that I dislike, it's the cheering masses at their rallies. People I would never choose to spend time with. I completely identify with your problem.
I'll admit I'm partisan. But if Tom Brokaw were going to moderate and he'd written a book examining politics in the age of Bush and Cheney, or some such thing, I wouldn't be crying "bias" against the moderator like they are over at the Drudge report. Frankly, I'm used to the main stream media being biased against my candidates. I just take it for granted.
Finally, a Democrat is winning! Of course everyone is over the moon - the description of the crowd at the capitol is hilarious! Also the grumpy Republicans stewing in the back of the room. I love it, this made my day.
I was walking door-to-door in suburban PA this weekend, reaching out to undecided voters. We met up in the Obama campaign office and it was *packed* with people (mostly white and middle-aged). The campaign manager asked for a show of hands if anyone was canvassing for the first time - almost everyone raised a hand. We didn't run into any McCain volunteers the whole day. We were walking in a conservative area, and only one person was openly hostile. But I was inspired by the first-timers getting out there to talk to their neighbors.
You are hilarious. I need humor in these dark times.
Re: Hillary -- I *always* thought that her attacks on Obama would only make him stronger, even at the time, and even though I was a Hillary supporter. During the primaries, this young kid in my office kept saying "wah! Hillary is attacking him! it's not fair!" and I said to him, listen, the Republicans are not going to be nice. They are not going to coddle him. They will be far nastier. If he can't handle some legitimate attacks from Hillary, he should just get out now, because it's only going to get worse. He's proven himself.
