Remember...

You can't spell,

"Just a troll packin' a room temperature IQ"

without M-A-J-O-R

BTW, here's a nice tome on the nexus of Christian fundamentalism and US politics in the 21st Century:

24 words that should be immortalized

"...that's all [the Bush] administration is and has ever been -- a relentless and profoundly dishonest exploiter of the 9/11 attacks for greater power and less accountability."

Sigh..

It is truly laughable how you and your middling followers persist on this quixotic quest to hold minor government functionaries accountable.

Legalizing torture? Lying about our nation's security capabilties? Suspending the Fourth Amendment for domestic US military actions? Blogger, please! Don't you know the American public has no interest in these petty transgressions?

The most damning indictment of your misguided efforts is the fact that you remain blissfully unaware of the fact that, as I write this, trade negotiations with Burundi are hanging in the balance!

What will John do next?

My guess: Replace Palin with Chuck Norris.

Mixed Emotions

Happy the legistlation was defeated. Sad the defeat was orchestrated by some of the most wretched representatives in the House.

First Impression

I'm skeptical that framing the issue in this manner is an effective argument.

Watch "Taxi to the Dark Side" for the most effective argument I have ever witnessed. (IMDB lLink is available on my signature)

Second Impression

Glenn,

Since I'm not an advertising executive or a producer of political commercials, I really don't care -- in general (with some exceptions) about the "framing" of arguments. I'm interested in whether arguments are true -- not whether they can be reduced to 10-second sound bites and featured on Chris Matthews.

I take your point. However, I would argue that it is legitimate to consider framing when discussing the effectiveness of an argument, irrespective of the negative connotation the word "framing" may evoke.

I don't think it is unreasonable to question the claim that the manner in which the USDOJ treats arguments for leniency made by a producer of sadomasochistic videos may not be analogous to the way it treated arguments made by those charged with mistreatment of detainees suspected of terrorism.

Ultimate Kabuki

Could this administration be poised to pull off the ultimate political Kabuki trick, surpassing even LBJ's Guns and Butter strategy which allowed the Republicans to climb back from a position of utter political destitution in 1964 to capture the White House in 1968?

Let see:

Conduct a war in a manner that enriches the Republican military industrial complex; provides Republicans with fodder to bash you for mismanagement; enrages your most fervent liberal supporters. Check

Aid and abet the crafting of legislation which enriches wealthy Republican elites; provides Republicans with fodder to bash you for being beholden to elitist interests, enrages your most fervent liberal supporters. Check

To complete the trifecta, make it a point ridicule your most fervent liberal supporters whenever they complain about your failure to keep your campaign promises. Check.

Now may be the time for us to become acquainted with the next POTUS, Kay Bailey Hutchison.
