  • Aaron Brown

    [Read the article: Brown out]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Whether out of exhaustion with the current state of television or annoyance with the celebrity-like status most news anchors seemed to strive for. We had long ago left TV news for the real news online and in print. We had whittled down our tivo-worthy newscasts to two, The Daily Show and Aaron Brown. Jon Stewart because fake news has often been more truthful than the real news and Aaron Brown because he had, in our perception at least, a genuine dignity and feeling for the subjects he covered. Anderson Cooper will surely do well and deserves a promotion. But why CNN would choose to relieve Aaron Brown instead such long-running disasters as Larry King and Lou Dobbs (or any of the bobble head dolls over on Headline News, for that matter) is hard to comprehend. Could it be Mr. Brown has more interesting options? Oh, and is drippy what you get when you stand out in hurricane force weather to add that genuine sense authenticity to storm reporting?

  • iPhone, huh, what's the whining about?

[Read the article: The iPhone: A quick first look]

Damn thing won't do my taxes for me and needs to be charged with "electricity." OMG, what wa s Jobs thinking? Crazy monkeys buying a product right out of the gate like that! Don't they know they need to wait and buy things when they are perfected? Maybe buying that MAC now and not back in 1984 would've been wiser - I mean that 128k did seem a little tight at the time... Silliness. The fun of standing in line for serveral hours and being a part of a new technology (real or imagined) is that you just know you are taking one for the team. The team that makes the culture move in useful directions and doesn't just sit back and let the world lead them. The team that beta tests over and over again so the cowards can have care free technology. The team that's having the fun... Yup, ATT sucks. Yup, the iPhone is over priced. Yup, it doesn't do ringtones - whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Yup, yup, yup. But, damn it sure does what it does do, pretty freaking well. Now, lemme see where's that damn network signal again?

  • Good for Matthews...

[Read the article: Chris Matthews skewers Mitt Romney]

I couldn't agree more. If the war is okay then get the hell over there and help it be resolved. If not then have the courage of your convictions and say so - lives are on the line. What's missing is courage and thus far our candidates haven't exhibited much. C'mon McCain, Obama, Clinton, Romney and the rest of you rascals, get real. Stop politicking and start leading... BTW, my son spent 4 1/2 years in the USMC Special Forces and 2 1/2 years, on and off, serving as security in Iraq. And I'm hoping I'll get the opportunity to vote for John Edwards.

  • Deadwood & John From Cincinnati...

[Read the article: I Like to Watch]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Curious that you would bust HBO for not allowing Deadwood to complete - a great show I agree - and, at the same time were so out of sync with John From Cincinnati. JFC didn't fit the mold but was an engaging piece of art, nonetheless, and you didn't bother giving it the time to write an intelligent review. As a critic you are unfortunately a part of the problem of crap shows being promoted and quality shows being dismissed. Find John From Cincinnati wherever you can and watch it again - you wont be sorry. "Kid Nation," why give it the space? BTW, I do love your writing.

  • Sopranos and John From Cincinnati...

[Read the article: The best TV show of all time]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Easily and obviously The Sopranos is best series. Not so obviously, John From Cincinnati had the makings of a great series - instead now it will be one of the best cult classics. Best credit sequence oddly enough the same two.

  • I'm missing something...

[Read the article: If you care about your rights, don't buy an iPhone]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If I open my PC up and add or subtract a part that then affects the performance of the PC, does the PC manufacturer have to repair it under their warranty? If I install 3rd party software on my PC that negatively effects its operation do I get to complain about the PC manufacturer and ask them to adapt their updates to fit my custom system? How is Apple’s approach any different?

  • Another point worth considering here...

[Read the article: Once and for all, proof that Macs are cheaper than PCs]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I work maintaining a 50 computer network evenly split between MACs and PCs. I've done this for 14 years. The PCs need replacing every two years, the MACs have a useful life of 3 to 4 years. The MACs essentially require no maintenance, the PCs need careful attention or they devolve with adware, spyware and other malicious worms and viruses. We needed both systems because some of our older proprietary accounting software is not available on MAC. Recently we've found a very good balance with the Intel iMac. We are running Parallels/XP for the accounting and leaving all email and web based activity to the MAC. Nice balance and everyone wins. To us it's cheaper to spend time in production then in IT work. As far as MACs being dumber - please, real world business technology requires simplicity and a user friendly atmosphere not hoards of IT twits running around thinking they are gifted because they know the secret handshake.
