I used to admire and read Camille Paglia years and years ago. Now, I don't recognize her. Who knows why Camille Paglia is writing/thinking like this? Most people should want, in a President, a leader who is "not just like them" but much, much more intellectually curious, gifted, and not blindsided by religious fervor in ways that would interfere with the separation of church and state. I just don't get it. Who can honestly say that someone like Palin would be an able President? Who can honestly say that someone like Palin would represent women's best interests with regard to choice and advancement? I don't know why Salon continues to give Paglia an audience, except for wanting to stir things up with, at last count, 210 letters? Freedom of the press and all that rot....yes, understand. So? What's next? Will Paglia now be a spokesperson for that insanely unqualified religious zealot who has ambitions for the Presidence in 2012? References in yesterday's press about Palin's inability to express herself in an articulate matter (Yoda?) were apt. Astounded I am.
My morning ritual: Get up, make strong coffee, and read Salon before I go to work. I always go to your articles first when I see them (Cary gets second place on those days :).....What a gorgeous way to begin the day! I remember too......thank you for writing this! I will now go off to work, smiling happily as I drive, and the traffic won't bother me at all this morning....
Just to clarify: Ambien is a GREAT medication for those of us who have trouble sleeping at night. It is the only thing that works for some. If people choose to abuse it by purposely taking it and not lying down in bed immediately afterwards for a full night's sleep (as indicated on the instructions) then that constitutes "abuse". Although the pharmaceutical industry is rife with problems (see "The Constant Gardener"), unexpected or "covered-up" side effects), let's stop bashing the entire industry! Sure, there is danger in all medications - side effects, paradoxical reactions, even death, but let's face it - how many people in the world have been SAVED by medications that alleviate symptoms and/or cure diseases thereby extending life? It's time to stop drug company paranoia, be realistic, and if a medication is a lifesaver for most, put the blame where it belongs: on the people who misuse medications.
