If Barack Obama is a Christian (he says he is), then refusing to go talk to another group of Christians would be a deeply weird thing to do. I'm amazed (really) at how liberals seem to want to see their candidate through the lens of secular savior when that guy has spent decades cultivating votes through the medium of the church and church organization--an action I think is pretty damn corrupt. For gods' sake, wake up as to who he actually is rather than who you want him to be. Either he actually BELIEVES the things he's been living or he doesn't. If he remotely believed them, going to Saddleback was the right thing to do.
As a former member of a fundamentalist church, a former liberal, who managed to be both of those at once, and more recently a person best characterized as a libertarian, and someone who intended to vote for Barack Obama until he eviscerated the fourth amendment and who now intends to write in Dodd (call me an idiot), I can assure that your reporter who found no takers on Obama doesn't mean they don't exist. Around 15 - 20 years ago before I came to see the fundamental corruption in fundamentalist evangelism, I woulda been hailing the guy's glory much the way the nutbars in his secular fan club seem to do still.
This is a very weird thing to see and read about. Extremely. Every time Obama does something that is actually in line with behavior he has exemplified for years, it seems to take people by surprise. And cries of "unfair" about the cone of silence are just silly.
The scolding, fingerwagging tone of this "analysis," or whatever you call it was so annoying I couldn't even finish it. It amazes me that somehow Clinton will be blaimed if Obama isn't elected? Geeze, if Obama can't take the well-nigh Christ-like popularity he has, coupled with the money machine he's built, and ride his rockstar like popularity into the whitehouse, it ain't gonna be the "woman everyone loves to hate"'s fault. Damn, PLEASE get a grip.
I was planning on voting for whomever the Demo candidate was, but this entire process has made me sick. My write-in will go to Dodd. Now, spank me :P
Why do people keep calling Obama's embrace (lately) of poor ideas like telecom immunity and faith-based initiatives centrist? I'm a centrist, and those ideas look pretty stupid to me.
I am so pissed at this creep Obama it will be quite difficult to cast my vote for him!
Nobody'll get this far, but you left one out. "They might be angry because a far less qualified candidate with less chance of beating John McCain was just annointed nominee."
I'm not a prisoner of my womb, disappointed a woman didn't get it, (John Edwards would have been OK, too), outraged over the media treatment of Hillary Clinton (although it sucked). I'm pissed off because the candidate has few qualifications and his face is starting to have square 1 " by 1" pitmarks. Lame.
My question pretty much says everything I want to say. What a stupid debate.
