From 30,000 feet

we look like ants. And yet that's the only time Todd agrees with us. When he comes down here among us, he favors the "superior" class who are above prosecution.

I have a suggestion for a gift for Mr. Todd linked at my name.

PS: Anonymust--I don't have the energy for a diary tonight. Maybe tomorrow unless something else comes up.

I've got it!

Let's hold the trials at 30,000 feet. Chuck agrees with us there.

Chuck Overton

I'm still over 10 pages behind in reading the comments, which are of the same high quality as Glenn's questioning of Todd. I had to stop and make a couple of observations, though, before the thoughts evaporate.

Glenn did Chuck a great favor with the first question, but Chuck totally whiffed on it. By carefully noting the range of torture activities the US has carried out and that these have resulted in over 100 deaths, many of which have been classed by the government as homicides, Glenn gave Chuck all the ammunition he needed to rise above the right wing framing in which he is mired. Chuck clearly doesn't understand the difference between the crime of murder and a political prosecution, even when it is handed to him with a neat little bow attached.

But Chuck doesn't stop there. He descends further into the muck of right wing framing when he spouted the "perfectly legal" argument about the firing of US Attorneys who weren't sufficiently political. His pronouncemnt also showed a shocking ignorance that there are still active cases in the courts on this series of events.

However, Chuck saved his worst for the "justification" of his (and Obama's) view that prosecutions for torture would devolve into political theater. He proved that his position on the ground (rather than the 30,000 feet where he agrees with Glenn) is in fact a pig sty approximately 20 feet deep in the muck of right wing framing when he said that Bush's attempts to get OLC authorization for torture meant that the legal question of whether crimes were committed becomes a mere policy difference.

"Hold them accountable" my ass. Chuck Todd lives in a world of right wing framing muck and can't see obvious truths when they are handed to him. Sadly, he is merely one of many in the M$M and is not all remarkable in this regard.

Thanks for getting down into the muck and confronting it, Glenn.

Hmmm...

I wonder what Todd's excuse is this morning:

1) The dog ate my homework.

2) I just washed my hair and it covers up my phone ear.

3)What number thingies do I push on the phone thingie again?

4) I just listened to some other podcasts and I think maybe today my voice needs some rest.

A [sic] New Game

I had so much fun with Glenn's clever use of [sic] in the post and the subsequent creative uses it could be put to that I did a diary on it. I put up my other use of [sic] and the one from What Constitution? If I missed any others or if you want to add your own, feel free to drop by. Link at my name.

Did everyone go to dinner at the exact same time?

C'mon. You know we don't eat real food around here. I did have to dig a while, though, to find a new bag of Cheetos.

You can't suddenly change the law retroactively because there's another interpretation of this.

Unless, of course, we need to protect the telecommunications companies from civil lawsuits they might encounter because of their patriotic [sic] actions on behalf of the NSC...

I envision a new network: CNC

Cable News Catnip

Parodists, please run with it.

I'd be very surprised if there isn't follow-up on this at the Cocktailhag News Network within the next 24 hours...

Best. Snark. Ever.

Pat Buchanan, chime in, because as I've been reporting [sic], and I'll say it for Chuck's benefit here:

Great job, Glenn. Best use of [sic] I've seen in a long time.

One flimsy bit of defense for these idjits. It's at least theoretically possible that they remember how most (but not all, of course) of their "off the record" comments from their BFF's on that case had to be cut off once Fitz started chasing down the outing of Valerie Plame. They have a veritable tsunami of yummy quotes on torture and Cheney's hit squads right now and a 24/7 cycle in which to repeat them. Once the case is under investigation, "no comment" becomes the quote of choice (unless, of course, there is concern someone important might actually get convicted and then it's time to push the limits and repeat something helpful). Once the investigation begins, their role becomes much smaller in the area they like (transcription) and they have to actually work to understand what's happening (or just copy from Glenn and Marcy).
