Original article: Let 'em duke it out

And white is black while up is down

Talk about whistling past the graveyard! McCain gets to sit back and not have to defend anything he says while he lets Hillary and Obama tear each other up, providing the McCain campaign with countless avenues of attack no matter who wins the Dem nomination.

I think Walter Shapiro accidentally took too many delusional pills this morning.

Useful idiots

These soldiers are little more than useful idiots. Even Human Rights Watch, no friend of this administration, has praised the U.S. military for the lengths it goes to avoid civilian casualties, sometimes even to the point of endangering their own troops.

Leave it to Salon to find a "story" where none exists.

What a load of crap.

failure to make distinctions

As usual, Greenwald fails to make a crucial distinction: the white ministers rail because American has changed from its original course and embraced sin, while Wright damns America for what it is at its core.

The white ministers say if American returns to her roots, God will lift his judgment. Wright says America is irredeemable.

Whether you agree with any of this is another matter, but to lump both "schools" into the same category is a failure to think clearly.

Ditto, by the way for Francis Schaeffer. And ignore Frank (who until not too long ago went by the name Frankie): he's a long-time crank and not to be taken seriously.

not!

Will someone who gets listened to kindly stand up and tell people that anyone who doesn't realize that 9/11 was a direct result of years of meddling in the Middle East is so myopic as to be legally blind?

bzzzt! Try again.

No, the explicitly cited justification for 9/11, right out of Osama's mouth, was that Americans were in the "sacred" land of Saudi Arabia.

Never mind that we're there at the invitation of the Saudi government. Osama thinks he knows better, and therefore he was justified in the attacks.

And if you wanted to attack for "meddling" in the Middle East, France and Britain would have been better targets. They've been screwing up things there for far long than we have.

oh, puh-leeze!

It's so obvious that Greenwald is an Obama partisan. C'mon, Glenn, just come out and say it. I then eagerly await your trenchant expose on the MSM and how it basically kissed Obama's ass for six months.

The man is such an empty suit that he couldn't have gotten this far otherwise.

Oh, and that little matter of his whopper about not knowing that Wright gave inflammatory sermons ... until the NYTimes uncovered the fact that Obama uninvited Wright to his campaign launch precisely because he wanted to keep this mad uncle in the attic.

Don't expect to hear any of this from "fearless" Glenn Greenwald, though.

Thursday, March 20, 2008 10:57 AM

forgot to mention

Since Glenn so loves polls, why no mention of the fact that Obama has tanked in the polls since the speech. In a head-to-head with McCain, he's down by 10 points.

OK, let's judge by that standard

In a perfect world, presidential candidates (and everyone else) would be judged only by their own words and actions, with a primary focus on what they will do in office. --Glenn Greenwald

Okay, first words. Obama said he was unaware that Wright was so inflammatory and was not in church those days when the inflammatory sermons were preached. Had he known, he would have denounced them.

Then the NYTimes reveals that Obama disinvited Wright to the ceremony announcing his candidacy, citing specifically that Wright could get "pretty rough" sometimes in his oratory. He wanted to keep Wright in the attic.

Now, for actions. Obama continued to attend Wright's church for 20 years even though he knew full-well that Wright preached race-baiting sermons and anti-American screeds. Fine, if Obama wants to believe that stuff, but he can't now turn around and tell us he had no idea.

In short, Obama is a liar and a hypocrite who would have gotten no where as close to the nomination had the MSM not kissed his ass for six months.

Don't expect a scathing expose on the MSM from Greenwald on that one. He so in the tank for Obama he's revealed himself to be nothing but the political hack he's always been.

@Derbig Mooser

Huh!?

What in the world are you talking abou?! Who said anything about Obama being a Muslim?

Are you sure you're not mainlining morphine already?

Sunday, March 23, 2008 03:44 PM

@kitt

Fox News and all of your favorite right wing blogs. That is up until it became more convenient to trash Obama for having attended a Christian church for the past 20 years.

So who said anything about Fox News? I made a very specific comment that is now being taken in directions never intended. Stick to what I said -- period.

And no one is trashing Obama for attending a Christian church. They're trashing him (rightly) for attending the same church for 20 years where the pastor preached outright hatred and race-baiting but then wants to disassociate himself from it, saying he didn't know.

It's the lying and hypocrisy.

Sunday, March 23, 2008 05:01 PM

@Settembrini

You are assuming he's in church every Sunday. Think how ridiculous that assumption is.

If you're going to comment on a thread, try to read the whole thread. What you say was Obama's initial defense: "I'm not there every week, and I didn't hear these particular sermons"

But then the NYTimes uncovered the fact that Obama specifically disinvited Wright from his candidacy announcement precisely because he was aware of Wright's race-baiting and anti-American screeds.

So, Obama lied, then got caught. He then disavowed Wright's preaching, even though he sat under it for 20 years.

That's the lying and hypocrisy.

Sunday, March 23, 2008 05:09 PM

for Kitt, Retired Military Patriot, et al.

Again, Obama lied and got caught at it. He first said he had not idea Wright preached those types of sermons. It's only when the NYTimes uncovered the fact that Obama was well aware of them and tried to keep his mad preached locked in the attic, away from the press, that he had to come up with a new story.

I repeat: It's the lying and hypocrisy, telling an outright falsehood and then wanting to have it both ways.

Please learn to read (and think) more carefully.
