Charisma

A big plus in presidential races for a candidate is charisma. Hillary doesn't have it and Obama does. Another big plus is good looks. Obama has that, plus a compelling wife, and some cute kids. He's also out there trumping the whole black/white thing which is also going to attract a lot of people. Of course the Republicans are not going to easily give up the huge money machine that is the federal government but you would think their disastrous policies are going to catch up with them some day. I always hoped Obama would run this year because otherwise he risked assassination; that's sort of the way of it with charismatic people. And I hope he stays as vague as possible and keeps riding his star power and smile. I hope his consistent message is to identify the class interests of the middle and lower class and preach that night and day and also how disastrous it has been to serve the class interests of the rich. If the rich won't ever wake up, hopefully the rest of us will.

President of the World

Here's the thing. George Bush is President of the World. That's why he's willing to start a war just about anywhere (well, maybe not North Korea). He wants missiles in Poland. He wants the damn Iranians to toe the line. This is an awesome responsibility. We ordinary Americans are not really his problem. Now we have McCain running for President of the World versus the tiny little democrats who are only running for president of the USA. I'd personally love to see a President of the USA but if McCain wins the world presidency I at least hope he doesn't screw it up as badly as Bush. However, it is darned expensive to be responsible for the entire world, but thank heavens for the Chinese being so kind as to loan us the money to pay for it. I mean we'll be repaid by the gratitude of all those who survive their liberation, right?

Our system tis of thee

The reason none of this will get changed is that it favors the right wing so much. Now they just grab power with both hands and enjoy the hell out of it, leaving a huge trail of destruction behind and themselves with even more power. Just look at the electoral college. Ohio and Florida decide everything; a few local officials can determine the direction of our nation. All of this is known in advance. Another thing is all the disenfranchisement. Maybe they feel it's legal for them to cheat. I used to believe my vote counted. Now I'm not so sure. I'm willing to believe it might count. In the state I live, why even vote? The electoral college has already worked its magic and, anyway, I'm probably being played for a sucker. That attitude is another big help to the right wing. Yet, as the great maven of democracy our nation is ready to do holy battle against all comers. The right wing has basically learned to operate the system for their own benefit and will sooner or later start using police power and everything else to keep it going.

Peace as Realpolitik

I don't see the way of constant war as the way of realpolitik. The only way forward is through peace. This war industry is nonproductive. What does it yield? How can it be economic to built armaments? The only way forward is through peace based on mutual agreement. As an America citizen I am sick of being the colossus of the world. What are we being taxed for other than to prop up this disgusting elite personified by George Bush, Vladimir Putin, Kim Il Jung and all the rest of them. In eight years George Bush has done nothing for me other than to send a check at the beginning and here one apparently at the end. So thanks for that anyway. The real work of the world is to be rid of the mad dog killers so prevalent everywhere.

Obama

Obama is pure Hollywood. That would be the best reason to vote for him. If he's the man, the Republicans will have many months to tear him to pieces, but somehow I see teflon on him. I mean, Hollywood, like Reagan. I'm a child of the 60s, and Kennedy was that child of youth, he was all possibilities, and here we have one more shot. Oh you democrats of Kerry, Carter, Mondale, Humphrey, and some more I've forgotten, here's a guy who can kick some ass. I mean, take a chance.

Push the dems left

Wouldn't Nader running force the Democratic candidate more to the left than otherwise. Couldn't that be the whole purpose? Maybe he attacks them more because they have the policies he's trying to influence. I would say Republican cheating and malfeasance is a much bigger problem. If I could give the Democratic Party one piece of advice, get out the vote, just like those horrible Republicans do.

Democratic Hate Machine

I keep hearing about the Republican hate machine. I think we're going to have the Democratic equivalent this time. I've built up a pretty good hatred after eight years of this malevolent nonsense. I think it's fairly generalized and what we have is the real thing, as opposed to Republican fantasy politics and their appeals to shit-eating morons, those grinning idiots who feel their basest instincts have some sort of philosophical basis. So, really, I mean, bring it on. In fact, I think the Republicans really don't even want to clean up their own mess. If they're not already conceding, how did McCain even win the nomination? As far as our candidates not being up to snuff, when was there ever a decent candidate for president?
