this guy

Needs to be apprehended and jailed immediately. He is clearly insane--right out of Dr Strangelove. Yes, folks, this is America, and he is one of ours! Lets' say, jailed, strait-jakceted, and given a few electric shock treatments! Yes, that's the ticket! Thank God a German has some sense.

Let's forgive

Michael Phelps, and then let all those potheads out of jail. THAT's the real shame here.

horse love

Not too long ago a group of guys were discovered, I think in New York State, who had themselves a stallion, and they were bonding with it in a very direct and physical way. When the state discovered what they were doing, they arrested the men and took the stallion away--and gelded him. I sometimes ponder the question of who was cruel in this situation, the men or the state...

That aside, my experience with both horses and dogs is that dog love is not freely given to the human by the dog--a dog takes his or her place in the hierarchy, and rewards the top dog (or not) with affection and attention and obedience. The dog may prefer one hierarchy to another, but the difference isn't all that great. A horse, however, never has to show affection--he or she just has to do a job. Some horses never show affection, but some horses do, and when your horse attends to you and remembers you and recognizes you after an absence, it is really really gratifying.

The Census

is the key--got to this article. Gregg was trying to control the census.

Original article: Your DNA is a snitch

Universal healthcare

would come in handy about now. I am a very healthy descendant of very healthy stock, and I hardly ever go to the doctor. I expect my children to live a long time without using much health care, too. But I think as a result of all of this DNA testing that there should be a pool of health care dollars that we all contribute to and draw from, and that DNA testing should persuade everyone to engage in preventive medicine. I know universal health care is a commie plot, but hey, I want it!

Original article: This war is our war

THe only thing

that happened was that they convinced us that things were going better than horrible, and so we forgot about it sort of, and even though it's still a disaster of mismanagement and scandalous waste, we're going to let it go. No one has the courage to tell the truth and so, that's that, end of US.

100 percent

I agree with Taguba 100 percent on this. BUt I don't think the dems or Obama have the balls to do it. The result will be the continuing disintegration of the US as we knew it, and a continuing slide into corruption and despair. Sorry to sound so hopeless, but I don't see any future except some more sweeping under the rug. Americans no longer have either the gumption or the integrity to do anything else.

THe Dark Knight

Was a piece of crap. It didn't make any sense, it was about some comic book characters, and everything uppity about it was cliched. All it had was Heath Ledger, who got his Oscar. I do not understand what you are complaining about. Wall-E? There was a movie. Fact is, you should go read Pauline Kael's "Blockbuster Syndrome" from 20 years ago. It's even worse now, because Hollywood has given their target audience a taste for only one thing, which is unbelievable crap that is unbelievable. If the Dark Knight is the only thing you can come up with as an example of something that should have won this time, then try again. And I do not like Slumdog Millionaire, either. But I don't see how the Hollywood we know is going to make movies that are worth seeing given the way the business works. What about that dystopian Will Smith movie about the end of the world and his dog, in which the dog dies? That was pretty good.
