It doesn't sound like she called Sen. Clinton "mannish"

Wintour's remarks don't sound like she was calling Clinton mannish, rather that she was scornful of the idea that Sen. Clinton would be disadvantaged if she appeared in Vogue looking "too feminine."

Not "plum-crazy"

It's "plumb crazy," i.e., absolutely crazy (unless one of them is actually crazy for plums.)

Jesus H. Christ

I really thought he couldn't get any stupider, more arrogant, ignorant, absurd, contemptuous, contemptible, foolish, idiotic, and just plain nasty. Well, I guess I was wrong. The nerve!

I like pink just fine, but

I really really hate this kind of "research."

It's refreshing and encouraging that he's against the war, and

how fortunate for him that he's 71 and apparently doesn't need Social Security. But his "insensitive" remarks sound like plain old racism, and, while ending the wars on Iraq and drugs, getting rid of Homeland Security, Patriot Act, and No Child Left Behind sound delightful, the idea of abolishing the IRS, FEMA, and services to illegal immigrants is just more selfish rich-guy talk. There aren't any sensible, decent Republicans left, apparently, if there ever were any.

You're going to hear from every librarian who reads Salon

And I imagine there are quite a few of us. Intellectual freedom is one of the cornerstones of librarianship. School librarians and children's librarians are on the front lines of that battle, and frequently have to deal with challenges to material in their collections. It's no wonder that a few of them self-censor, but it doesn't represent the values and practices of the profession. Also, what's with the old lady with her hair in a bun? Jeez.

I'm so stunned and sickened by this, I can hardly fathom it

That's right, dipshit. Senseless slaughter is really bad.

No, it isn't

"Just deserts" is correct: it's what one justly deserves (not something nice like dessert).

Why is "faith" a qualification

Kamiya remarks that, "Bush, although a man of deep faith -- he reads Scripture or a religious tract every morning -- is grossly intellectually unqualified to be president."

This implies that he does have one qualification -- "deep faith." Who cares if the president has any kind of faith? Let's get a nice, smart atheist or someone with an indifferent and shallow faith (plus a brain and a heart.)

Good God

What has the world come to, when 6:00 is "early" to leave work?

Where's the picture?

The photo needs to be published. Did the photographer allow himself to be intimidated by Scalia? I hope not!

Blech

This thing is really horrid, random, arbitrary, and uninteresting, as well as unnecessary. Also not at all funny.
