Wonderful story!

Hey, she's sexy! Sexy comes mostly from confidence, which she has in abundance, so good for her.

If you think that obesity is gross, that's your right, but please be aware that many of us don't. Is it necessary for anyone to loudly proclaim their disdain for obesity with such a smug judgement? It would suffice to simply not date obese people.

Once upon a time, when I ran in gay circles, I saw first-hand how bad fat-phobia could be- probably worse amongst bitchy queens than anyone else. So, anyway- as a man who has never been a "cute boy"- or barely a boy, at that- it got me down at times. I have been a big man since I was 12, and have carried extra baggage for my whole life.

How wonderful it was once I managed to feel my own self-worth after years of being harrassed and teased. I realised as a grownup that I had plenty going for me (a very long story). At about the same time, I also discovered that there were people who found me sexy- including a few whom I found sexy as well. Those who don't mind matter, while who mind don't matter. It is cliche, but true.

I also learned that hate is usually little more than the projection of one's own self-loathing. Getting over it is liberating, and one of the basic keys to happiness.

By the way, Mr. Dick Dworkin- was it really necessary to paint such an unpleasant picture? What would you care, anyway? In the future, may I respectfully give YOU a little bit of unsolicited health advice- for your own good, of course...

You can greatly reduce your risk of contracting carpal tunnel syndrome by typing less. May I suggest you start by signing future posts with your first name, only.

"Some people claim Obama is a Muslim, despite all the pork sausage he's eaten on TV at diner campaign stops."

YES!!! Let's start a Grass-Roots campaign to elect Obama to be the official spokesperson of the National Pork Producer's Council!

@ ehillesum... OT, but still...

"Have you ever considered the numbers of Americans who died in WWII? Horrendous. But if that war was fought today..."

---------

...is it any doubt that we would be in some serious deep shit, because there is no more American industry left to mobilize?

There are many reasons for the decline of the USA manufacturing base, but it has happened. The skilled labor jobs in much of the rust belt are gone. Tool and die makers, millwrights, electricians, machinists... Forever.

This is a matter of national security that NOBODY is talking about.

I just hope we'll be able to get a good deal on some Chinese tanks if we ever need 'em.

@paulpsd7, on Paranoid Conservatives

You painted quite a picture of your old man, there. Scary. Been to OC, not surprised...

Anyway, in 1993, the cartoonist Robert Crumb brilliantly illustrated the same kind of fear that is now driving people into a froth:

It's powerful, graphic (and some would say, outrageous or perhaps irresponsible) stuff, but Crumb nailed it.

No doubt that he was lampooning paranoid whites, but I don't doubt that some who saw it actually agreed with it.

After all, the astonishing popularity of "All in the Family" was due, in no small part, to those fans who tuned in every week to root for Archie Bunker.

A very old, and very sad, story.
