Disillusionment

One of the insidious effects of all this is the disillusionment it will inevitably cause in voters, young and old. My 21 year old son didnt bother to register or vote last election because he didnt think it would make any difference. Silly me told him that the only wasted vote is the one not cast and that we needed a break from the Bush admin policies. How on earth can I possibly argue now that this election made a difference? What exactly is the point of supporting a supposedly progressive candidate when they turn out to be such bald faced liars?

You already know what she looks like!

You already know what she looks like, at least what she looked like to your husband - its all spelled out in the emails! The words she wrote is what attracted him - nothing more, nothing less. Forget about finding her - there is nothing to be gained. But you might learn something by reading these emails - something about your husband in particular, about what turns him on. And it will help desensitize you to having been betrayed. Read them enough and after a while they will get downright boring and banal, and maybe even laughable. You will feel better when that happens. Words of experience by the way.

Where do these people come from?

Silly me - I thought this kind of thing was decided years ago when we adopted the Constitution. How pathetic.

Thank God for Maxine Waters!

Meet the Press was a total debacle as Glen noted. Fortunately on This Week, Maxine Waters gave a stellar performance. This is how Dems are supposed to act:

This should be mandatory viewing for all progressive voices preparing for their next TV appearance.

And Katrina kicked ass as well, as usual.

Those impudent Kenyans!

How dare those impudent Kenyans cultivate a culture of impunity! They really need to study the Obama-Clinton-Dem-Repug playbook on this matter if they are to be taken seriously.

Original article: The Obama justice system

Alicia Shepard - definitely an idiot

This is clearly a person who has allowed herself to be co-opted by whatever force is behind the gradual neutering of journalism. It was barely a generation ago that journalists brought down the Presidency and were otherwise regarded as a check on the actions of the government. To actually verbalize the stenographic model of journalism in such unambigous terms, and without any obvious embarassment is simply amazing and indicative of a totally soft-headed approach to life. What an idiot!

Mouthpiece Theatre - what a joke!

I was shocked when I discovered that these idiots have actually made more than one episode of their pathetic attempts at what I can only assume is some form of political satire.

Ugh! The ignominy of it all!

One place behind Krauthammer? What a disaster.

Are you insane?

What a load of ass-kissing crap. Obama does not give a damn about the gay community, and the DOMA brief proves it.

What a crock of BS!

Glenn - I find it hard to believe that these people are actually afraid of terrorists in Palau or in your neighborhood Supermax prison - isn't this all just a very cynical ploy to whip up their wingnut base? If so, shouldn't that be the headline and the focus of the progressives ridicule? Crass manipulation of people that only read the headlines and listen to Rush et al is what is really going on here.

What a disappointment!

Obama's numerous reversals and instances of backpedaling are particularly demoralizing given the strength of his mandate and level of support from the progressive wing of the Democratic party; I believe he is fundamentally not a strong person, and is easily swayed by the deeply entrenched bureaucracies of DC, especially the DOD, CIA, and NSA. If ever a President had the opportunity to sweep in and make systemic changes, Obama was the guy, but he has flubbed so many simple decisions he will probably never recover. Two years from now it will likey be even worse than today.

Trojan Horse?

I suspect Sotomayor is probably a lot more conservative than most readers of this site would care for. Supreme Court justices have a way of surprising their detractors and disappointing their supporters. Lets see what she has to say about privacy rights, executive power, etc before we all jump on her bandwagon. Also, I dont trust Rove, Gingrich, and their ilk one bit on this - I think they protest just a little too much. Kind of like Brer Rabbit and the thorn patch - don't throw me in there!

The right wing nutjobs might actually be on to something here

I think what these crazies are really afraid of is the huge number of primarily African American prisoners who are in prison becoming indoctrinated into radical Muslim theology. Having successfully and disproportionately locked these people away for long and often unjust sentences, they know they have created an ideal breeding ground of disaffected, angry young men who very well may be receptive to a philosphy that rejects "traditional" American values.

How to handle lying presidential candidates in the future

Glenn - given all the backsliding by Obama since November, and the entire record of the Bush admin, is it not time to adopt a different approach to future presidential candidates' various campaign promises? It seems to me that every future pledge or promise should immediately be followed up with questions such as "How do we know you are not lying to us?" and "If you break this promise, what should be the response of the American people, Congress, and the Courts?"

I am just completely sick of how quickly and easily these people renege of otherwise very straightforward promises and pledges.

I have no confidence Obama and Holder will do the right thing

The release of the torture memos notwithstanding, I think Obama and Holder are a couple of pantywaists that have been co-opted and otherwise intimidated by the bureaucracy and power structures set up by Bush. Dropping this investigation is a no-brainer and should have been done months ago.
