  • the black elephant in the room

[Read the article: Was Hillary channeling George Wallace?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Hillary Clinton didn't invent racial division and not talking about it won't make it go away. The media and Obama's supporters want her to get out of the way because she's a threat to the rockstar Obama. The media want him there because they believe they can destroy him for the right and the supporters want him to win the Presidency because they want to draw a definitive line under the Bush years. Not to talk about race and to pretend it doesn't matter doesn't make you virtuous, it makes you a hypocrite. She was simply stating a demographic fact but the Republicans will, of course, genuinely exploit racial division for all it's worth if Obama's the candidate in the general election. And don't think it won't work. The Clintons already have their tragic legacy - one of America's best Presidents dragged through the mud by the rabid right and their media proxies. They threw Monica Lewinski AND the kitchen sink at him and he was still re-elected. The right could forgive him for everything else, but not for being re-elected. To try to claim that Hillary Clinton and George Wallace have anything in common is a disgraceful lie and the question mark on the end of the sentence not only doesn't cover the deceit but shows the depths commentators will descend to over politics. But the Clintons already know all about that.

  • how are they elite?

[Read the article: Killing by the numbers]

'Getting kills'? Jesus Christ, what's wrong with you people?

Do you think Iraqis are a species of duck?

  • this is law enforcement gone mad

[Read the article: Should this dress be illegal?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Why didn't they taser her? She's obviously a dangerous criminal. It's official: the American police force is run by humourless thugs with the fashion sense of a blue tongue lizard. Not exactly breaking news, of course. Dancing in that dress could have led to exposure and dancing can lead to sin in any case! Clearly the police had to act to protect youth from sin and moral collapse. I sometimes wonder when America will emerge from the 19th century.

  • hard of hearing?

[Read the article: Hillary enters death-with-dignity phase]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Didn't you hear what she said: 'It isn't over until the lady in the pantsuit says it is.' You'll just have to grin and bear it even though you hate her so very very much.

  • it's an addiction

[Read the article: John McCain's Vietnam-based view of war]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

America's addiction to war can be traced all the way back to the Civil War. This war was and still is seen as a moral crusade against slavery but what precipitated the war were the economic consequences posed by the threat of the south seceding. Every war is economic power masquerading as a moral crusade. The American War of Independence was a war about taxes. The Iraq war is a war about oil and oil politics. It has also been called the first colonial war of the 21st century. It's a text book case of a war fought for profit. I don't think the moral damage that slavery did to America has ever really been calculated. For a country so dedicated to liberty it was a schizophrenic state of affairs to have human beings kidnapped and bought and sold like cattle and it seems to me that not only has it influenced the treatment of the American working class (the memory of how enormously profitable a business can be when you don't have to pay wages hangs over the corporate world like the memory of a golden age)but it has made it easier to believe that certain people have no rights. Neither the right to a fair trial nor a presumption of innocence. Indefinite loss of liberty in Guantanamo Bay is just another form of slavery. A great Civil War era lawyer, William Garrison, said of slavery: 'That which is unjust cannot be law'. It took John Yoo and the neo cons to prove him wrong. I've never understood how people like McCain can imagine that the media could have told the truth about the Vietnam war and made it look pretty or noble. Perhaps they just expected them to tell 'patriotic' lies and thereby prove the saying that 'Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.' The military establishment created a myth about Vietnam: a virtually identical myth to that created by the German High Command after World War I. The German myth was that the noble German military had been betrayed by Jews and the left and that was why they lost the war. These were the very groups targeted by the Nazis. The American military created a myth that during the Vietnam War they had been betrayed by the media and the left. The surveillance laws the Republicans want to push through before they lose office are to target 'liberals' not terrorists. Their ultimate aim is to control and monitor any group that can challenge them politically. The irony is that they continually bleat about freedom and democracy while they believe in neither.

  • rave, rave, rave

[Read the article: She won't go easy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Rave on Paglia. Hillary Clinton's a million times the person you are. You're full of hate and bile. You're unpleasant and bitter and your terminal whining never has anything approaching wit in it to make it bearable. Hillary Clinton may come and go but your hate goes on forever. If you call what the press has done and will always do to Hillary Clinton a 'free pass' you must be smoking too much dope.

  • crimes of the female

[Read the article: She's in it to spin it]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

You act as if Clinton coming out of the primaries with a 'popular vote' lead over Obama is a conspiracy or some kind of crime. Perhaps it's just that tricky thing: the truth. Not that the popular vote matters in America. It all depends on who the media hates the most and least wants to have elected. The worst thing the American media can imagine is a female President. It's almost as if America would become (shock, horror) France.
