  • think what Cecil B. de Mille could do with this

[Read the article: Some hateful, radical ministers -- white evangelicals -- are acceptable]

Hagee is Moses. Yes and Ann Coulter is Potipher's wife, Giuliani is Jezebel, Lieberman is the golden calf, George W. is the Pharoah of Egypt, weak, foolish and covered in boils etc, Cheney is Jonah (clearly the man's been swallowed by a whale), Rumsfeld is... gotta stop. My vision's blurred. Probably divine retribution.

  • the profit motive

I wonder how much of that 3 trillion dollars went to Haliburton? I wonder how much of that went to Dick Cheney? I think if Americans knew exactly how much Dick Cheney has personally profited from 9/11 and the war in Iraq the scales might finally fall from their eyes and they would truly see the horror of Bush and his cronies and what they've done to western democracy. We should also all, wherever we live, be alert to the cyclical attempt to drum up fear of a pandemic. Donald Rumsfeld made a huge profit from shares he had in the company that made Tamiflu. The company was apparently making a loss before the bird flu scare began in the media. I don't know what their plan is, but the people behind Bush and Cheney are very rich and very patient people and they have no ethics and no scruples, as the wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan and the so-called war on terror prove. The only good thing about Cheney's windfall is that he will eventually die and he can't take it with him.

  • they have a plan

[Read the article: The ornery pride of the political journalist]

The media just wants to get rid of Hillary Clinton. Their thinking is that once she's out of the way Obama will be easy for them to attack and destroy. They see him as a moveable feast of possibilities for attack and they don't believe that, in the final analysis, he will be elected. As for making the media eat in a toilet, if I had the power I'd make them eat OUT of a toilet. They are trash. Liars, connivers and cogenital idiots with their fake teeth and fake hair and fake 'news'. They send a shiver down my spine.

  • anthrax

[Read the article: The cold price of hot blood]

Well, kirkaracha, the anthrax was weaponised and of the Ames strain of anthrax. Only the United States is known to have produced the Ames strain of anthrax. So the anthrax had to have come from a United States military laboratory. In other words from a biological warfare facility -like those ones that are run by the CIA. Now who do you think would have access to one of those? So, now do you know why they haven't properly investigated those attacks which were aimed specifically at Senators Leahy and Daschle. These Democrat senators had expressed doubt about voting for the Patriot Act. The Patriot Act allowed Bush and moronic friends to do whatever the hell they wanted to Muslims and anyone else they didn't like but it was aimed particularly at Muslims. Now, let's think: who benefits from the Patriot Act being passed. Do Muslims? I think not. Once it was ascertained that the anthrax must have come from an American military facility all those media commentators yakking day and night on TV went mysteriously quiet. Funny, that. Suddenly it just wasn't news any more and they returned to bellowing for the invasion of Iraq to take place, like yesterday. They don't talk about 9/11 much any more either - for the same reason. They know where that road will lead. They don't talk about Osama bin Laden very much at all and Bush said he 'just doesn't think about him much' and the bin Laden unit has been disbanded. Just another day in paradise.

  • Israel

[Read the article: The Iran hawks' latest surge]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

As the years have passed Israel has ended up in the position of a child who knows a stove is hot but continually puts their hand on it and once burned expects sympathy. It may not be so obvious in American political life but in the rest of the world, sympathy is wearing thin. Israel is not so much a state as a state of mind. Historically it will be seen as a fantasy of a perfect society which led to terrible tragedy. As it did in Communism, Maoism, the French Revolution, the Red Army Brigades and most organized religions. The state that was meant to be a sanctuary for Jews has become the most dangerous place on earth for a Jewish person to live. The fact is, Israel has been at war with the Palestinians for decades and most countries in the Middle East, including Lebanon, Jordan, Iran and Iraq have been drawn into the conflict in one way or another. Saddam Hussein signed his own death warrant in the nineties by firing rockets into Israel. In war there are casualties on both sides and with urban warfare and weapons like cluster bombs, many of those casualties are non-combatants. Israel's delusion is to believe this is not acceptable when it happens to Israelis and that all casualties should be Palestinian or Lebanese or, it seems, Iranian, while the Mossad and the IDF exploit this delusion and use the Israeli victims of war to justify ever more war.A never ending spiral of violence ensues. Be that as it may: no state's raison d'etre can be religious intolerance and an illusion of exceptionalism with overtones of opportunism, achieved by a permanent state of war and institutionalised discrimination. This is as true for Israel as it is for any other state. Both Israel and America are fighting insurgencies, which are lengthy, hideously expensive and ultimately unwinnable, even factoring in McCain's Hundred Years War and Israel's Old Testament foreign policy.I await the horror of the IDF's 'solution' for Gaza.

I didn't say Israel was 'exclusionist'. I said:

'No state's raison d'etre can be religious intolerance and an illusion of exceptionalism with overtones of opportunism, achieved by a permanent state of war and institutionalised discrimination. This is true for Israel AS FOR EVERY OTHER STATE.' Including all the states you've mentioned and every other state in the world - including America. I'm not anti-semitic, I'm pro-human.
