doesn't add up
[Read the article: What I really wanted to say to Chris Matthews]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]All well and good Ms Michelman but how the hell do you expect a woman to become President if women don't vote for her? I always vote for women, even in the local council elections. We make up more than half the population but we don't make up anything like half the politicians making laws(which, in case you haven't noticed, directly affect us and our children)and I don't feel the least bit guilty about doing it either. I once had a man angrily tell me it 'wasn't fair' for me to vote for women and I just smiled and said 'I know'. After all the 'unfair' things men have done to women for thousands of years, and are still doing, I thought he had a hide but these days I conserve my energy for better things than arguing with a man with no sense of justice. I still take the time to argue with women with no sense of justice.

100 years of fear
[Read the article: Why McCain provokes paranoia on the right]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]John McCain provokes paranoia all over the world with his '100 years of war in Iraq' but this statement sums up the problem the strange inhuman monster known as the military industrial complex has become. It used to be 'we'll prevail in Iraq',now it's 'we can't lose in Iraq and we can't lose in Afghanistan'. The reason is simple: if the military machine of the west can't defeat a ragtag bunch like the Taliban in Afghanistan and can't defeat insurgents in Iraq who can make a roadside bomb for 10 cents from stuff they found in a junkyard then all those horrifying weapons don't help the warmongers and the military might of the west is not only ineffective, it's obsolete. I can imagine how all those five star generals are losing sleep over that. The fact is, the insurgency in Iraq never needed to start but the US army went in like Attila the Hun and made the Iraqis hate their guts. Now they're blundering around in Afghanistan dropping bombs on civilians - the very same civilians who would turn away from the Taliban and support NATO if the Americans weren't killing their families. If they had built schools and clinics and not put a puppet like Karzai in power it wouldn't be the mess it is. However, it IS the mess it is and Nato will never win there militarily any more than America can have any military victory in Iraq -even if they stay for 100 years. How deep the problem is can be clearly seen in the statements from Scotland Yard that Benazir Bhutto didn't die from bullet wounds. People who were in the car with her saw her get shot in the neck so why would SY lie? To defend Musharraf, of course. Bhutto's assassination was a team effort: the Pakistani Secret Service supplied the sharp shooters (which is why they're desperate to prove it wasn't a bullet that killed her) and the Taliban provided the suicide bomber so they could blame 'al Qaeda'. The Brits and the Americans are involved because they're frantic to save their puppet Musharraf. Musharraf tells them
'After me comes the deluge' when in fact he's their biggest problem in the region. The same old story. The credibility gulf is now enormous and it's all a bit like what happened with the internet. The mainstream media despised the internet and treated it as if it was a joke and now the internet is eating them alive. The kind of warfare John McCain understands is no longer effective because most wars are now insurgencies as the third world battles the first world for a decent standard of living and more importantly, RESPECT. John McCain doesn't understand any of this. He's just an older version of George Bush. And for all those who say 'if only we could drag Europe into the mess in Afghanistan we could win' I would just like to remind them that the Russians had 100,000 troops in Afghanistan and they lost. The US had 500,000 troops in Vietnam and they lost. They lost because they were fighting an insurgency. It sums up the Pentagon and the CIA's hubris that they thought they were different and that it would never happen to them in the Middle East. Israel has been fighting an insurgency since 1948. They won't ever win.

good God!
[Read the article: What I really wanted to say to Chris Matthews]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Howardhoflich is a fascist and he is proud, DO YOU HEAR ME, proud of it - or is he just being ironic, satirical, and yanking everyone's chain? Maybe he's just trying to prove that old cliche that feminists have no sense of humour. He made me laugh, so that can't be true.

he knows what he's talking about
[Read the article: Quote of the day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Pimping? My guess is this poor old media fool knows a lot more about all that than Chelsea Clinton does or ever will. He and all his mainstream media colleagues are whores for the right and have been for decades. It's just that old guilty knowledge surfacing again. The right always accuses others of doing what they do themselves. It's just one of their quirks. The world of media lies and distortions they find so comfortable is in its death throes and they're a bit jumpy.
