  • the shat in the hat

[Read the article: Dead party walking]

'The Clintons have shat in the Democratic Party's bed'. Can you be more explicit. More to the point, what the hell do you mean? I would be very suspicious of people who always begin by saying 'I was going to vote for the Democrats but...' Usually these people were NEVER going to vote for the Democrats but want to say they were so they can whine about the Clintons. Anyone who uses words like 'shat' has such a hate fixation on the Clintons they can only be Republicans. Also 'they (sic) pay for it in November' - like Kennedy did or what? This kind of mindless hate based on misinformation and gender prejudice typifies many Republican voters. My American brother in law voted for Bush twice and the things he says about women and black Americans make my hair curl. Even some mild praise I directed at Muhammad Ali unleased a blitzkrieg where he claimed only 'college kids' admired him, or some such twaddle.

To see him in full flight with his head firmly up his rectum is to realize what those who run for public office in America are up against. The hatred and the ignorance run deep. The Clintons are the personification of the saying 'No good deed ever goes unpunished'. Hillary Clinton could have spent her time in the White House arranging flowers but she chose to fight for health care for Americans. For this, many of those who would be the biggest beneficiaries of a rational health care policy, regard her as a dangerous socialist. Undoubtedly Rupert Murdoch regards the money spent on Fox/Pravda as money well spent. Those who own the rest of the American media feel the same way.The media are implacable enemies of Hillary Clinton but they're only following orders, even if they do end up believing their own lies. What happened in New Hampshire revealed the chasm that now stretches between the tame media drones and the voters. Barack Obama has endorsed Joe Lieberman who was thrown out of the Democratic Party for kissing George W. Bush and he has now endorsed Ronald Reagan even though he's dead. Is it any wonder the media loves him?

  • this should work

[Read the article: When principles aren't enough]

Hey, here's an idea! How about anyone who wants to be in the Congress, anyone who wants to be a senator has to spend six months living in a slum, six months with no health insurance, six months living on food stamps. Would their eyes be opened?

Or would they cling to the words of the Rev. Ike, 'The best thing you can do for the poor is not to be one of them'? The puritanical belief that the poor are poor because they're sinners has created America's disastrous social policies. John Edwards WAS one of the poor so his view is somewhat more realistic. He knows that given an education and a chance in life these people would break out of poverty as he did. I think that's what drives him to put himself through the horror of a Presidential campaign. He certainly can't be doing it for the money.

  • be nice

[Read the article: Bill Clinton: The Chris Matthews of South Carolina]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

You should try to get along with Bill. Hillary already has almost twice as many delegates as Obama and she could be The Prez and he could be The Prez's husband. I don't really see how the candidates can make their case for being the nominee if they all just run around saying nice things about each other. What kind of a process would that be? It would be like those stomach turning interviews where politicians say they're friends and then go back to stabbing each other in the back behind the scenes. Comparing a brilliant man like Clinton with Chris Matthews is way harsh. Chris Matthews is a bit of a twit and Clinton once did his entire State of the Union address from memory when some saboteur stuffed up the text in the autocue, according to Alan Greenspan who witnessed it. Chris Matthews probably has trouble remembering what day it is. In the final analysis the Democrats need a nominee who can win. I find it hard to believe that person is Obama. Ugly remarks are in the ear of the behearer. Just wait until the campaign for President begins. Ugly remarks will flow like wine. The Republicans will roll out the dirt machine and fling mud like no one's business but this time it won't work because they're carrying so much mud themselves, it's a wonder they can move.
