How can you believe this crap bp13080? As for Condi and her 'accomplishments': this is a woman who went to New York while people were dying of thirst and hunger and drowning in their houses in New Orleans and went shopping for incredibly expensive shoes on Fifth Avenue. She was abused by other customers who were decidedly not 'leftwing' and when she went to see 'Spamalot' that night she was abused again by members of the audience who couldn't believe she was there while armageddon unfolded in New Orleans. The point is, she was. I hear she plays the piano very nicely and she should have stuck to the keyboard. She will go down in history as one of the least effective political figures of all time. Only Bush will outdo her in brainless ineptitude. The Democrats will have to clean up the mess left by these trolls but there will be no progress in the Middle East until someone grows a spine and demands that Israel start behaving as if we don't all still live in the Old Testament and Joshua's still calling the shots. The lunacy of the political positions they're allowed to take by a supine American government simply boggle the mind. Not to mention the bottomless pit of money that US taxpayers pour into Israel every single year, whether they want to or not, so that Israel can have every dinky new weapon of mass destruction known to man. Nixon was chewing on bottles full of anti-depressants and washing them down with lots of booze, I don't know what drugs are driving the Bush Administration but I often wonder what the doctors are giving Cheney for his heart (?) condition.

It's a Mad world and getting madder every day Bush is in office and the best part is that the Republicans running for President in 2008 are even madder than he is!!! Heartwarming to see that two pro-Israel politicians are now pulling the strings in France. That should lead to some bloody battles on the streets of Paris, especially if they try to send French troops to Iraq. Most people would avoid Iraq like the plague but now that France has lurched to the right they might just be foolish enough to get involved in Bush's endless war to plant the mighty seed of democracy, whether they want it or not, right in the heart of the Middle East. Nero should be getting his fiddle out any time now.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]If you don't understand what Naomi Klein is saying, pedestriano, that's not a criticism of her theories but of your ability to understand them. I found what she was saying perfectly clear and in any case it's what I've believed for a long time. The TV stations screaming about 'shock and awe' before America invaded Iraq were telling a truth they barely grasped. When people are shocked they think with the reptilian brain, the oldest most primitive part of the brain. It's no good for analysis and scepticism but provides an emotional response: fight or flight. Neo con/neo liberal politicians have latched on to this as a way of 'transforming' the world into the way they think it should be, whether their constituents want it or not. People have realized what's happening and are starting to turn away from the 'war on terror' and totalitarian style surveillance but I won't be the least bit shocked if some further 'shock and awe' takes place - just to remind us all that we're not in charge any more. The things Naomi Klein is talking about are not really theories: she's talking about facts. Things that many people know have taken place and are still taking place. The question is, what are we going to do about it? That's why she wrote the book.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]So they have executions in Iran do they? I seem to recall that when Bush was Governor of Texas he held the record for the number of executions carried out and also for the number of refusals to grant clemency. As for Israel saying Iran has an
'expansionist policy' well you have to laugh or you'd cry. Israel has stolen an entire country. I often wonder how the British would have reacted if the founders of Israel had turned up in Surrey and said 'We're taking Surrey because we need a Jewish state and by the way we might need to take other places as well. It depends how things go. Oh and also by the way, if you try to stop us, we'll kill you.' I don't think it would have gone down too well. The actress Miriam Margolyes was recently interviewed on radio and she is very proudly Jewish but she also said, 'Going to Gaza changed my life.' She was in Israel to perform her show 'Dickens' Women'. She now says that if you have a moral standard you can't suspend it for one group of people but hold everyone else rigorously accountable. This is what Israel wants to do with Iran and it's simply not acceptable or productive to allow them to do it. Or to bomb yet another Muslim country as if everything that's happened in Iraq didn't happen or somehow has no significance for future behaviour. Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Bush and Cheney have learned nothing and neither have the monomaniacal apparatchiks lurking in the shadows who have set their agenda. The abyss beckons and I don't believe there are political procedures for stopping the neo cons from having their way. Only impeachment will save the situation now but all either party cares about is winning the Presidential election.
