  • Pink for Prez

[Read the article: Bush's blank check]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

At last an American I can admire and love! I just saw Pink singing 'Dear Mr President'. What a powerful voice she has and it was telling THE TRUTH. The truth bird hasn't been on my TV screen for many years and I'm not ashamed to say she made me cry. People say the Iraq war is a 'fiasco' and 'catastrophic'.That was two years ago. Now the Iraq war is apocalyptic but even that word doesn't do it justice. Even apocalypse has a good side: it's an end game and that means it ends. The war in Iraq doesn't end and the latest 'assessment'from the morons running it is that it could go on for another ten years -or forever! It all puts me in mind of a letter a soldier poet wrote home from the front in the First World War 'They keep telling us we're winning the war' he wrote, 'but the war is winning and it will go on winning.' So now the truth is out: the Iraq war is winning. America is losing, the Iraqis are losing, Israel is losing. Civilization is losing.Only the war is winning. To call this war an act of lunacy on a par with the British officers who sent their men over the top of a trench into withering machine gun fire that cut them to pieces, not once, not twice but every single day...well I'm sure the similarities with the US army's 'patrols' are too obvious to need stating. And now we'll see the Israeli army move into Gaza and butcher their 'enemies'. Who exactly are the terrorist fanatics? Remind me. I can't see much difference. Where are the good guys? Perhaps I'm just blinded by blood and gore but I don't seem to be able to see them. For America to spend a trillion dollars a year on this disaster when you have people with no health insurance and people living in cardboard boxes under bridges is a sin. If this is what having a 'Christian' President gets you, try having an atheist next time.

  • Those damn stables

[Read the article: Richard Cohen's brilliant (and unintentional) exposé of our media]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"Fitzgerald has finished his work'. No, I don't think so. Mr Fitzgerald is standing in those dung spattered stables they got Hercules to clean, holding a shovel. He could be some time.

  • Hamas and democracy

[Read the article: Spinning the disaster in Gaza]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I don't believe Israel wants a Palestinian state of any kind. What they want is the rest of the land. Whatever Hamas is or is not the government they led was elected in an election classified as 'free and fair' by observers. How can the US and the EU act in this disgraceful fashion against an elected government and then bleat about 'democracy' in the Middle East? It's hypocrisy of the most blatant kind.I read somewhere that 25% of Palestinian children suffer from malnutrition and I can't say I'm surprised. The Palestinians have genuine grievances and until they're addressed this madness will continue. Not to deal with the whole situation politically is to

move towards the Podhoretz solution. Genocide, in other words.

  • The Polish ghetto

[Read the article: Krauthammer's plan to deny Palestinians gas and electricity]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Can no one see that this is the Polish Ghetto all over again, except with Palestinians instead of Jews? I ask in despair, does the human race ever learn anything?

  • Fred Raygun

[Read the article: What "truly motivates" George W. Bush?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The Republicans hope Fred Thompson is the new Reagan. He is.

Ignorant, bigoted, living in the past and obsessed with military power and his own importance. He will march courageously and with utter conviction back into the dark ages. What more could they ask for?

  • Stop whining

    [Read the article: "Sicko"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Instead of whining about Michael Moore, the only famous American who gives the world any hope America can ever change, why don't you whine about a 'health care' system that sends premature babies out of hospitals to die and refuses to treat a child because it's not at the'right' hospital or because its parents are too poor to pay upfront. The last time I heard about anything this weird was in South Africa during apartheid when 'white' ambulances left black South Africans to die because they weren't the 'right' colour. They had to wait for a 'black' ambulance.. Moore entertains (he makes me laugh out loud however serious his subject) but his aim is deadly. I still can't help smiling when I remember how he skewered Wolfowitz in 'Fahrenheit 9/11' simply by showing him licking a haircomb. You knew immediately that this man was not quite clean. And how right Moore was, when you think about the World Bank fiasco!Another victim was John Ashcroft. Watching him singing 'Let the Eagle Fly' in Fahrenheit 9/11 reduced me to helpless laughter but it told me a lot about Ashcroft too. Sometimes Moore doesn't comment: the visual says it all and he doesn't need to. As for the so-called lies or distortions in his movies -what are they? It seems to me that what his critics really hate him for is telling the truth- and entertaining people while he does it. If you really want to see or hear distortions watch any speech by George W.Bush or the verbal contortions of spin doctors like Tony Snow. Next to them Michael Moore is like Saint George I-cannot-tell-a-lie Washington. Remember Bush and his speech about the 'mushroom cloud' that he warned everyone was about to drift over Washington in 2003 if Iraq wasn't invaded tout suite? Now THAT'S deception.
