Oh Dear!

Wait, no one really thinks that Heather Havrilesky is racist because she thinks Tyra Banks is ridiculous (she is; I'm one of those lamos who has watched more than one season of ANTM) and Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin are funny, right? Was that a joke?

Certainly she's not your average 16 year old

Do I think she's an idiot for getting knocked up at 16? Yes. She should have had more sense than that. BUT, this kid is going to be born into a situation much different than most kids of teen moms. As other posters have pointed out, this child will have everything...the best healthcare, childcare, education, etc.

I don't think Jamie Lynn has totally ruined her life. She'll still have plenty of money. I hope she's socked away a good chunk from her work on Nickelodeon.

@icuRNMonica

Why on earth would you suggest a baby go from breastfeeding to formula once they hit 10 lbs? What does that accomplish exactly?

DeeMom...

It is absolutely true that some women cannot breastfeed. And most feel tremendously awful about it; in fact breastfeeding issues are a leading cause of postpartum depression.

And your superior attitude towards women who found they couldn't (for whatever reason) breastfeed successfully doesn't help one bit. To brush these moms off and exclaim that they must feel that 'booby-feeding is icky' is ridiculous.

I struggled for months with breastfeeding problems, but I'm happy to say I stuck it out and am still nursing my 9 month-old. But I would never judge a mom for giving it up, it has been one of the most difficult things I've ever done in my life.

Moms need to support each other!

Oh Brightstar

Babies can't have cow's milk. Cow's milk is full of proteins that are difficult for an infant to digest. Formula is much closer to breast milk than cow's milk is. Cow's milk is intended for baby cows, not baby humans!

Brightstar, I have NO immune diseases, and I was formula-fed as was most of my generation.

I would venture to say few mothers actually think formula is superior to breastmilk. Most understand that breast is best but formula is an acceptable substitute when breastfeeding can't happen.

That is all.

The only photo I have a problem with

Is the weird one with her Dad. WTF?

It's also pretty lame that she released a statement saying she was so embarrassed by the photo; she and her parents were both in on the decision-making when the photo was taken...it's silly to try to back-pedal now.

Also, the photos that surfaced of Ms. Cyrus and her douche-y looking boyfriend are what she should really be embarrassed about. The Annie Leibovitz photo is beautiful and tasteful.

You can kill lots of people in GTA

My husband has one of the GTA games. You can pretty much kill anyone in it, hookers included.

I don't think it's meaningful to focus on one aspect of the violence of this game, because really, the whole game is extremely violent.

And my husband is very mild-mannered, but does he love to run over pedestrians! ;)

'Sweetie' may roll of his tongue

So easily because of the women in his life...I'm thinking of his daughters and wife. I bet he's gotten so used to calling them 'sweetie' it's leaked into daily use. Maybe?

I liked RT's analysis of this...he didn't mean it in an inappropriate way, but it's still worth examining.

@oxymoron

Those were my thoughts exactly. After seeing some of the dolls I was certain that they were for grieving parents who just lost their baby. If that's the case, then I wouldn't call it creepy, just very sad.

I tried to watch the other video, the one with the woman who brings the doll (presumably it's one of the dolls) to the grocery store, but I wasn't able to finish watching it so I don't know if it explained who these dolls are for.

My one and only problem with this episode

Since when is bleeding a sign of pregnancy? I guess they wanted something dramatic that would bring her to the doctor, but usually it is the absence of bleeding that would be the tell-tale sign of pregnancy.

Also, my husband tells me that in the scene with the priest giving a sermon he should not have been wearing a cassock and surplice.

Maybe MW needs a few more consultants? I know I know, they are minor details. But he seems a stickler for details.

Love the show! Great write-up, HH.

@spoodles

Yes, I do know that spotting can be normal during pregnancy, but if it's just spotting it shouldn't be enough to go through her clothes, KWIM? If it's soaking through her clothes that seems to indicate heavier bleeding.

Anyhoo...

@gayle

I don't believe you mean Barry Sears, I think you mean Dr. William Sears.

Your characterization of attachment parenting does not reflect how most practice it. No doubt some have taken the 'attachment' part of attachment parenting too far...But for me and the other moms I know who consider themselves 'attachment' practitioners, it means all or some of the following: co-sleeping (either in your bed or in your room), breastfeeding and extended breastfeeding (and I don't mean until age 10), and use of something like a sling rather than a stroller, at least when they are infants.

Does that stuff sound crazy? Perhaps to you it does, but to me it seems reasonable. I don't think kids should be smothered and not allowed to do things on their own; quite the opposite. But I also don't see any harm in sharing a bed for as long as it works for everyone or breastfeeding past 12 months either.
