  • Lockheed 10A Electra

[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

My former employer, Air Canada (formerly Trans-Canada Air Lines) has a vintage 1930s Lockheed 10A Electra that is used for publicity/charitable purposes. See http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?regsearch=CF-TCC&distinct_entry=true

Its permanent home is at the Western Canada Aviation Museum in Winnipeg. This year it flew at the Airliner's International in Washington in July and at the Festival de l'aviation at Lac-a-la-Tortue Quebec in August.

  • Cameraman

    [Read the article: Reporter attacked]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Am I the only one wondering why the cameraman kept filming instead of coming to the aid of his colleague who was being physically attacked? How far would someone have to go to get this guy to stop filming and help? I'm sure glad I don't work with him. Maybe I should just be glad I don't work in TV news. I guess it's all for the ratings.

  • Hate to put a damper on this, but

    [Read the article: Madame Speaker?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Last I checked these bills would have to be passed by both houses of congress and then signed into law by the President. If Bush vetoes these (anyone think he'll sign a repeal of his tax cuts?) a 2/3 majority of both houses of congress would be required to override the veto. I have seen no survey that indicates the Democrats will have anywhere near a 2/3 majority. Sorry, kids, but it's inertia for 2 years until we can take back the White House.

  • Mr. Kurth's vacation

[Read the article: At her majesty's pleasure]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

So, Mr. Kurth has a few drinks in the airport bar, which he admits doesn't go with his medical regimen. He doesn't explain anything about this to the crew. He's drunk and abusive to the crew in-flight. He admits to "loudmouthed pig-headedness."

As a retired airline customer service agent I spent 25 years listening to assholes such as Mr. Kurth. I always chose the prescribed route of trying to calm them down while my stomach churned inside.

Some people don't seem to realize that airline employees have another title: people. They go home to husbands and wives and kids and dogs and mortgages. They don't like being abused and threatened as Mr. Kurth describes any more than Mr Kurth would like it had it been directed at him.

I say: good for BA and their crew and British justice for throwing the jerk in jail. I can think of only one better sentence: He should be sentenced to stand behind a check-in counter at LaGuardia Airport on a perfectly clear beautiful day in May when all flights are being cancelled because of thunderstorms north of the city. And the passengers will threaten him and call him names and all he can say back is, "Sorry, you're right."

  • Zip-Air

[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

One of your suggestions -- Zip-Air -- has already come and gone. Air Canada started it as a low-cost subsidiary to compete in western Canada. The planes were painted in pastel colours. The planes are in the Mohave. • Nitpicking

[Read the article: Japan's first female P.M.?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

In paragraph 5 you ask: "And guess how many female heads of state Japan has had in the past 50 years?" The Emperor is the Head of State. The Prime Minister is the Head of Government. The answer to your question is the same, none, but Ms Koike is not trying to become Empress.
