They need to get their heads out of their a&*es
[Read the article: Two Georges, one king]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Ahh, yes, Bush has certainly lifted us to a better place through: chipping away at Constitutional rights; starting a war of aggression (AND, lying about it!); ignoring international treaties protecting human rights, the environment, etc.; undermining our moral authority in the world and our standing even with allies; pushing our country further and further into debt; leading an administration unequalled in its secrecy and Machiavellism; outing a CIA operative; vetoing a bill to provide health coverage to poor/middle class children; and on and on and on....
Bush and his cronies live in a bubble and are DELUSIONAL!!!!

[Read the article: Two Georges, one king]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]So much for your inaccurate and misguided rebuttals:
The chipping away of rights seems to be a problem FDR had as well...guess he was wrong too.
1) Your default answer, FDR did it too, is bogus. I agree with you. FDR, an otherwise great President, violated Constitutional rights in interring Japanese Americans and wiretapping Americans, but it doesn't okay to do it again.
Starting a war of aggression (lying etc) - I recall that all intelligence, world wide for the most part, agreed there was a problem in Iraq...guess President Bush had ALL of them in on his plan to fight a war in Iraq.
2) Could you capture the events that lead up to the Iraq War with any more duplicity? We were the ones that pushed and pushed for the War despite doubts harbored by most other countries (including GB). Some intelligence may have come from other countries, but we were the ones that assembled the "facts" and made a case for war. Also, intelligence showing there is a "problem" in Iraq is hardly justification for taking over a country and killing hundreds of thousands.
Ignoring international treaties protecting human rights, the environment - guess FDR was wrong on this one too...not to mention the UN hasn't done SPIT for human rights either...guess it's Bush's fault.
3) FDR did not violate or chose to not participate in international environmental treaties (as Bush has done in a time when our planet is truly in danger). Also, to the best of my knowledge, FDR did not enact a wartime policy that included torturing prisoners and unlawfully detaining "enemy combatants" indefinitely in complete violation of the Geneva Convention. Finally, what does the UN have to do with any of this? I agree they have problems, but my criticism is focused on our current president and his actions, not those of international bodies.
Undermining our moral authority in the world and our standing even with allies - Like they gave a damn about our moral authority before...not to mention we still have the allies that count, last time I looked.
4) I didn't say we didn't have allies. I said our relationships with them have been undermined. Those are two different things. You need to work on your reading comprehension.
Pushing our country further and further into debt - CONGRESS controls the purse strings...next.
5) Yes, "Congress controls the purse strings." And guess what? Up until several months ago a Republican Congress that was one big yes-man to Bush was in power.
Outing a CIA operative - AFTER said CIA operative's husband outed her.
6) You haven't just mischaracterized this story, you have got it all wrong. Haven't you read about this? Novak was the first to reveal her name publicly. It was not her husband. That is a fact that you somehow missed.
Vetoing a bill to provide health coverage to poor/middle class children - AH yes, the MANDITORY women and children angel - yet he requested a bill to INCREASE the coverage but Congress wanted to increase it FAR beyond that and to put time limits on the war as amendments...something President Bush said BEFOREHAND he would veto...yet Congress sent it ANYWAY.
7) Bottom line: Bush thought the program was too costly. And it is when we are spending an estimated $177 million per day on a war we should never have begun.

Real Deal
[Read the article: Flirting with disaster]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I take issue with the writer's position that Amy has to bolster her cred as a white blues artist by playing up her troubles and giving shot outs to black hip-hop/blues artist. Unfortunately, I think her self-destructive behavior is genuine. She claims to be manic-depressive (granted this may just be a self-diagnosis). You combine this with her youth, obviously sensitive nature, and exposure to drugs, and I think it's entirely possible that she is genuinely that messed up. Also, is it not possible for white people to really love and know a lot about "black music"? Isn't it possible that she actually likes the artists that she references in her songs out of respect for them? In all, sadly enough, she seems to be very authentic in both her her tremendous talent and torment.

One funny moment
[Read the article: The chimp who thought he was a boy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]LOL D. Cloyce Smith!
That comment was the only funny aspect of this very sad story. For those of you interested in animal intelligence and current related studies, National Geographic featured an outstanding article on the subject a couple of months ago. Fortunatly, it seems science if finally opening up to the idea the animals - including dogs, chimps, birds, etc - are much more intelligent and emotional than previously believed. Hopefully this insight will lead our selfish species to treat our fellow furry, feathery, leathery, and hairy creatures with greater dignity and respect.
