Confirming suspicions of many
[Read the article: Dick Cheney's top aide: "We're one bomb away" from our goal]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It seemed clear that the goal of terrorist threats was to rob us of our liberties in the name of defending the homeland, so "they" wouldn't come over here. What is significant about Goldsmith's revelations is that the reasons for 9/11 take on a decidedly different tone when we hear Addington's claim that a terrorist attack would yield what they were after: total control of the laws by the executive branch--a dictatorship.
Playing on people's basest fears, with the media's and Congress' aid, they could do as they pleased and disregard any law. Appalling. That the Democrats have caved and cowtowed to this will be their eternal shame.

Cooking the Books
[Read the article: Bush knew Saddam had no weapons of mass destruction]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Sidney tells us something we knew had to be true from the get-go, and in his usual precise, informative style. Of course we see the same false scenarios being put forth by Dick Cheney and his band of crazies for attacking Iran, even an imminent terror attack to be used as an excuse to blame Iran for it. That the President deliberately deceived the American people and Congress is certainly an impeachable offense, for by his actions he has endangered the lives of our soldiers and sent over a million Iraqis to their graves. Even more appalling is that he used 9/11 as a means to destroy the Constitution and consolidate absolute power in the executive branch. How much more evidence of Bush and Cheney's malevolent actions will we take?

Wrong on its face
[Read the article: Bush knew Saddam had no weapons of mass destruction]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Wrong is every one of the arguments McGarrett tries to so desperately make in a sad apologia for the neocon crazies who so wanted to take Saddam out, rationality and the facts be damned:
The intelligence gathering here was always going to be a mess and there was no way to know what the actual facts would be.
DEAD WRONG...people who used their heads knew the intelligence was being cooked from the get-go. The Bushies were determined to go in, no matter what. Just exactly why did Dick Cheney decide to darken the door of the CIA numerous times? Not to make nice or to pay a simple social call. As many agents have testified repeatedly, it was meant to intimidate them into creating a report that would lend credence to the Administration's claims of Saddam's involvement in 9/11 and in WMD. The whole issue of yellow cake in Niger was debunked, leading to the sliming of Valerie Plame and Joe Wilson. There wasn't anything they wouldn't do or say to those who dared to show that the whole motivation for attacking Iraq was built on false premises. There most definitely was a way to know what the actual facts were. They were discounted and dismissed, for they did not fit in to the plans Bush and Cheney had for Saddam.

Hit the nail on the head
[Read the article: Bush knew Saddam had no weapons of mass destruction]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Anonymous, when you wrote:
@thingswesaid
What kind of fucking moron are you?
The same can be said for all the pliant Republicans and media hounds who took whatever Dick and George said (Tim Russert, are you listening?) and took them as gospel. Same can be said for the NY Times, which allowed itself to be a clearinghouse for countless lies fed to Judy Miller by Bush leakers and that fraud, Ahmed Chalabi.
The war would never have been sold if the media had stood up and reported the facts, rather than regurgitating falsehood after falsehood that they had been supplied with. The media is as much a culprit as the Administration and supportive Congresspeople in the slaughter of our soldiers and the deaths of Iraqis. Even now, the media are accepting as gospel altered reports about the supposed success of the surge and evil doings by Iran. Even now, the repellent candidates the Republicans are trying to hoist on the public spew countless BS about why we must stay in Iraq, even to the extent that John McPain is all but ranting about the success of the surge, showing he has clearly lost his mind.

Interesting View, Yet Bizarre
[Read the article: Ahmadinejad's New York state of mind]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]What is odd here is the author's claim that Ahmadinejad's visiting with anti-Zionist rabbis is a sign of his being not anti-Semitic...funny, he invited same group to Tehran for his Holocaust Conference earlier in the year along with David Duke and other Americans of his ilk. Also, the claim that somehow the translated words about homosexuals makes his remarks less ridiculous is absurd. Some points are well taken, though...the Iranian President is a savvy media pro, knowing full well that a visit to Ground Zero would spark a frenzy among the NY tabloids...he played it to the hilt. He also worked the right wing media machine and their mainstream media lackeys into a lather they are still indulging in. There have been rumors among the conspiratists that Mr. A. is a CIA operative...what better way than to have a radical President sympathetic to the hard line Iranian elements that would help stir up rebellion among younger Iranians for a freer Iran and foment anger and disgust in America that would play right into Dick Cheney's plans for bombs away? Farfetched, maybe, but I put nothing past this Administration and their nefarious motives.

Mercenaries of Doom
[Read the article: The Bush administration's ties to Blackwater]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]These shameful bastards who make tons of money and let soldiers in the military take the blame for their murderous, unchecked behavior is an outrage that every American should take umbrage at. Condi can make immediate phone calls to keep Blackwater in Iraq, yet they can't get Iraqi government to meet necessary bench marks. Blackwater is an abomination, as well as other contractors. YOU, the taxpayer, are paying for their affronteries!

I Was Righteous From The Start
[Read the article: Obama: I was right from the start]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Obama is sounding more righteous by the day...the "I told you so" and Cassandra routine is growing stale as voters just aren't warming to him...the cash isn't there, the poll numbers either...continue on this holier than thou path, and he will be done. Rather than go on about the past, let's work for getting us out NOW, Obama...and remember, you couldn't guarantee you would get us out of Iraq by a date certain. So save the rhetoric for your mama...ain't buying it!
