There were previous posts referring to the fact that Harry Truman was the last president that didn't have a degree from a university. While that's true, there's more to the story. Over the last eight years, Bush has been compared to Truman over and over and I fail to see any similarity. The other stuff is just about small towns since I'm from one. I've lived in Arizona for years - before McCain was representing the state - and I don't think he'll make a very good president.
As for surfboards - Charlie don't surf. Ask McCain.
Yahoo opened the topic when it questioned the Republican candidates about whether they used Macs or PCs. McCain's reply: "Neither, I'm a illiterate that has to rely on my wife for all of the assistance I can get."
McCain has never said that it has anything to do with war injuries.
And anybody who has ever been in an Apple store knows it has nothing to do with age.
We are both deeply saddened. He will be greatly missed.
To the uninitiated, it takes time to become acquainted with blogs and to learn to distinguish the useless opinion based fact sites from the fact based opinion sites, and to know which bloggers are more reporter than writer.
The standard that exists for writers is more open than the standard that exists for reporters. A reliable, trustworthy blogger is even a breed apart from their peers in print media since they don't seem to be as constrained by having to mitigate details of a story in order to satisfy their advertisers.
Relative to the sheer volume of bloggers on the web, Glenn Greenwald and a few others have achieved the status of reliable online reporter.
I think that previous poster DrEyeBall is on to something by suggesting that we need a new name to describe this institution. Maybe a self-regulatory organization comprised of seasoned professional reporters, editors, and professors to help online consumers of information discern the difference - or does such an organization exist and I've just never heard of it?
I do.
I've watched it three times, twice with the sound up and once with it off and it works both ways. I think it's a good ad.
Jeevmon, you're right about McCain's top economic adviser being Phil Gramm. (Lindsey Graham is a Senator from South Carolina.)
tjwombat, you're right about driving home the connection to the American public.
This is very real - no exaggeration required. As Jeevmon points out, Phil Gramm is primarily known for the "nation of whiners" remark. Phil Gramm is central to relaxed regulation which laid the groundwork for the sub-prime debacle, the Enron Loophole which allowed for speculators to drive up already high gas prices, and lobbied congress for easing regulation on predatory lending.
I think a series of ads could effectively tie Gramm around McCain's neck between now and November 4. Whoever does it needs to use the tag "Privatize the profits and socialize the losses" over and over until the entire country is repeating it in their sleep.
Moveon? I'm looking at you...
Hola amigo. I know it's been a long time since I rapped at ya but I've been busy tryin to figure out when McCain went to Canada to invent the Blackberry. He's supposed to be my senator representing us in the great state of Washington, D.C. not hanging out in Toronto or someplace called Moosejaw inventing things he says he says he doesn't even know how to use.
I know there may not really be a place called Moosejaw. Some guy who got me baked on some wheelchair weed told me he was from there, but he could have been making shit up.
I hope there is a video of her saying this - it could be funny as hell. Especially in a cutting Manchester accent.
Contrary to what you may have heard, Terry Southern is alive and well.
Oh yeah?
Fuck her.
Right on.
Every question posed to Sarah is a gotcha question. Most of what she claims doesn't jibe with the facts and she continues to repeat these falsehoods over and over again on the stump. The McCain camp can cry foul all they want, but a growing number of people don't believe she's got what it takes to be second in line.
I'm beginning to think she isn't even qualified to be governor of Alaska.
How about something on McCain's visit to the auto plant yesterday where people were shouting "Obama 08" over and over as he was leaving the venue.
Somebody else told me that there was a guy holding a sign that said something to the effect of union members for McCain who turned out to be a plant.
I guess that will make Ralph the oldest president if he wins.
Yeah, that'll happen...
From the sound of it, I would guess Elephantman from all that money he's saving on rent.
It's true that Anglos in New Mexico are more laid back on immigration issues than their counterparts in California, Arizona, Colorado, and Texas. I lived in Santa Fe for a while about 25 years ago, and I'm glad that Obama bypassed it in favor of meeting people in more rural areas. Nothing wrong with Santa Fe - nothing at all - but I think the vast majority of the population won't be as affected by the outcome of the election as the rest of the state.
I live in southern Arizona where Hispanics are going big for Obama. Right now, I think there isn't a chance he will carry Arizona, so I'm counting on you, New Mexico.
You'd think some day he'll wise up and get that camera out of his radio booth.
