War of Attrition

Does John McCain think that African-Americans, indeed ALL Americans, don't have a reason to celebrate Obama receiving the nomination of his party to run for president on the anniversary of MLK's speech with a visual nod to Lincoln and Martin Luther King, Jr.?

I live in Arizona and remember well John McCain voting against the MLK holiday. I realize he's apologized for it - McCain apologizes a lot. He apologized for the comments he made about Chelsea Clinton, but how many adult men do you know who are juvenile enough to say what he did in the first place? (BTW, if you saw her last night there is further proof of how wrong he can be.)

The Republicans are going to do anything they can get away with. Simple as that. If Democratic strategists spend all of their time trying to anticipate every move the Republicans are going to make, then they've relinquished control of the dialog to the Republicans.

It doesn't matter how the stage is dressed - McCain's camp will use everything they have in their arsenal to attack it. Whatever Obama does, they'll keep throwing what they have in the hope that enough of it sticks.

When Obama released the ad featuring McCain's ignorance on how many houses they own, and the McCain camp responded with Rezko and convicted felon talking points, then it's incumbent upon Salon to report that Cindy McCain's father was a convicted felon and that conviction is directly related to how he accumulated his wealth.

When Mitt Romney's wealth is reported, it should also be reported how he made it. I think people want to know how many jobs were off shored by Mitt Romney. It's germane to the election.

We're not going to get anywhere if we continue to try to fit in wedge-wise, apologizing the whole time, while going for voters. Start framing the debate for chrissake.

There's always going to be minutiae out there with which to distract people. Statistically, with elections being this close, all either side needs to do is peel off a few voters in key states in key districts either by suppression or persuasion. If the Republicans make assertions, hit them back harder. Does anybody think there isn't enough dirt to bury them?

It's out there, that's why so many of us have been so angry for so long. We haven't imagined the last eight years. Dig it up and HAMMER them with it. If you have your facts in order, be fearless. Be fucking fearless. Your readers will have your back.

I'm Out

I thought T. Boone was staying neutral on the presidential race. Since that doesn't appear to be the case, I won't waste any more time on the Pickens Plan. I live in Arizona and John McCain hasn't done a damn thing in this state insofar as creating a solar industry here, so I don't see anything happening if he's elected president.

Too bad - it seemed like it could represent a good starting point.

I Love It! Don't Change a Thing

Are you kidding me? This is the closest I can get to actually being with my family during election season. The fact that their disagreements and frustrations have bubbled to the surface represents the way most of the people I know feel at the end of eight years of the Bush administration - frayed.

It's my news channel of choice followed by CNN - never watch Fox - and, even though I don't agree with them all of the time and yell at them on occasion, I continue to tune in.

That's how I came to love Rachel Maddow and they had the good sense to give her a show.

It Was Bound to Surface

The Republicans floated the subject of Obama's brother in an attempt to preempt stories of Cindy McCain's half-sister. It's the same reason they have to bring up Rezko because all of the reporting over the years here in Arizona on Cindy McCain's father is sure to be reported nationally now that the contest between the two candidates is about to become official.

@ CeliaInSF

I've been reading and agreeing with your posts for a while and thought it was time to say hello. It's nice to know that I'll be in good company while watching Rachel. :D

Brilliant, Absolutely Brilliant

In my adult life, no one has inspired me with a single speech the way Barack Obama did tonight.

I will do whatever I can to get this man elected.

Nutter Center? Really? That's Great...

Geez, if I couldn't draw flies I'd probably try to rationalize the success of the other person in any way I could think of, too.

Next Week Will Be Interesting

McCain can talk about two things with confidence: cutting government pork and his time in the military. After that, he's out of ideas. Campaign Finance Reform seemed to evolve out of his role in the Keating Five.

Everyone knows where he stands on abortion and guns, but are they aware of other positions on issues like net neutrality, his record on renewable energy, health care, and education, for example? I don't know if these issues will be discussed in the debates, so we may want to post them here in the letters section of Salon so they don't get overlooked.

Happy Birthday, John McCain and WTF

He's 73 today. If something happens to him, she will be president. And, she isn't Hillary. Not even close.

Again, WTF

I guess if Al-Qaeda is planning an attack involving moose, we'll be set.
