Agree With dorisflowers

He makes sense to me, too.

And it was clear that he held back on criticizing Clinton - which I think helped him.

We do need to focus on defeating McCain.

Original article: Good night and good TV

@ senseinai

Interesting that you bring up Garry Shandling. My husband maintains that as funny as Seinfeld was (and still is), it was the Larry Sanders show that was more groundbreaking and influential.

Hey, now. He's right about pretty much everything...

Thanks For The Memories

Back in the early 70's, my 10th grade typing teacher handed each of us a page on the way into class. I sat down at a typewriter and began to re-type it thinking it was an assignment. He called on me to ask me what I thought. I told him I was typing, not reading. He told me to read it.

It was a fetus talking about all of the things it looked forward to doing once it was born. At the end of the story we learned that it wasn't to be because the mother was getting an abortion.

Again, he asked me for my thoughts in front of the class. I kind of shrugged because I didn't really know what to think since I was there to learn how to type. It wasn't the reaction he was looking for and to the best of my recollection, he never spoke to me again.

Being teenagers, talking fetuses became pretty funny and we had them commenting on all matter of things - especially Nixon and the Vietnam War.

It was not the time or the place or even educational. The proper venue would have been sex education class, but we didn't have one. The long lasting effect of that day has been my resolve to keep religion out of public schools.

Lt. Gen. Claudia Kennedy

I had the pleasure to meet Lt. Gen. Claudia Kennedy four years ago when she spoke at a luncheon here.

I remember telling my sister that if I could only pick one woman to talk to teenage girls about life, Claudia Kennedy would be it. She achieved success in the ultimate male dominated career by making choices and sticking to them.

We can't have it all, but if we take the time to know ourselves and make informed decisions, we can have what we most want.

I'd love to see more on Lt. Gen. Claudia Kennedy on Salon...thanks!

I Almost Didn't Read This...

I was let go from a nowhere job at the end of March and decided to take some time to think things through. It was long overdue.

My husband was diagnosed with cancer in 2004. My sister was diagnosed with cancer in 2005. My brother-in-law was diagnosed with cancer in 2006. My husband and my brother-in-law are both doing fine; my sister died three months after she was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of breast cancer.

I lost a part of myself when I lost my sister and I'm having a difficult time getting back to being myself. (She was also my best friend.) I'm very thankful for the people I have in my life and I'm trying to get back on track, or at least find which track I should be on.

I'm taking a couple of summer session classes and really enjoy it. I want to start working again in August although I still haven't made a firm decision as to what I want to do.

I wish I had something more enlightening to share with you, but I don't. I guess I just wanted to tell you that you're not alone.

I wish you every happiness and success as you sort this out.

Nothing New - This Has Been Going On For Centuries

From another Woody Allen movie, Take the Money and Run, his character is asked if he thinks sex is dirty and he replies, "only if you're doing it right." So I think the Religious Right might be messing up a good thing, which appears to be their primary expertise.

The best sex advise I ever heard was from a gay man - Tennessee Williams - who was asked about one of his one-act plays, Small Craft Warnings. He said it was about how promiscuity destroys the love impulse.

That made sense to me.

When You're Right You're Right

It's true that T. Boone Pickens has done things in the past that have royally pissed me off. He's also done some truly compassionate things such as rescuing animals and reuniting them with their owners after Katrina and trying to prevent the slaughter of horses for consumption in other countries.

I saw his ad on MSNBC and went to the website. It makes sense. I understand the Sierra Club is also on board with the Pickens Plan. I joined, too despite the fact that I will forever be angry over the Swift Boat Veterans for "Truth".

Energy shouldn't be a partisan issue, although I think the Democratic Party is probably less fearful of moving in a new direction. John McCain hasn't even been supportive of creating a solar industry in Arizona, so I'm dubious of any lip service he plans to deliver on the subject of alternative energy resources.

If Pickens and Gore can rally their supporters to demand that changes be implemented immediately, then Wall Street will begin to pay attention and the government will follow suit. Both men understand that this effort will require the will of the people.

Isn't this a technology in which the United States wants to be a leader? Doesn't this represent new opportunities? How's the status quo working for you? Happy?

One thing is certain, drilling for oil is now looking about as viable as whaling.

Clarify, Please

"...but his plans for that other war could mean trouble."

Doing anything or nothing in the Pakistan/Afghanistan region could mean trouble. Don't we all know by now the difficulties the British and Soviets faced trying to colonize Afghanistan? Does Obama want to colonize Afghanistan?

So, Pakistan is going to get mad at us if Obama is serious about tracking down Osama? (And Ayman al-Zawahiri.)

Are you suggesting that Obama wants war with Pakistan? The article isn't clear.
