Now you get the 'rancourous tone' again
[Read the article: Sullivan's travels]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]CB-
First, you need to learn to read. 'Here in Oregon in Eugene' neither states nor implies that I live in Eugene. I live in Portland and have never set foot in Eugene.
Next, you may find my writing pedantic, but I write the way I write. I won't dumb it down to meet your lower standards.
That you do not understand the meaning of the words 'liberal' and 'anarchist' is your problem not mine. Words have meanings whether or not you care to understand them. 'Liberal anarchist' was, is and will always be an oxymoron.
$30,000 per year is your idea of a trust funder? Yes, millions of Americans live on that or less, but they don't want to do so. Most would do whatever they could to improve their situation. I know quite a few people who have trust fund income at that level but they work for the main part of their income. I don't have a dime of trust fund income - my parents joyfully spent the money they accumulated on themselves - but, even if I did, I would be out working for more.
If you do not understand the difference between liberal and leftist, you need to spend a lot more time learning something before you pontificate. FDR was a liberal whereas John Steinbeck, for example, was a leftist. They did not believe the same things.
There are wingnut conservatives - e.g. Sam Brownback - and there are just plain conservatives - e.g. Gordon Smith. I know the difference, and I am careful to acknowledge that difference when discussing political ot other issues. You don't understand any differences in the views of different groups of people, and I have neither the time nor the inclination to help you understand.
I did not equate Israel and Nazism - that's just your pathetic inability to read again. Israel does engage in Nazi practices - that is empirically demonstrable - but they have not undertaken the extermination of an entire people. Again, you need to learn what the Nazis actually did and the history of Israel, but you seem to know little about either.
So, deal with me or not - I could care less.

What's with the pot thing?
[Read the article: Something fishy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Patricia Schwarz-
I have to ask this. What's with the pot thing, girl? I have been a fairly steady doper for more than 40 years now, and I support decriminalization of home cultivation and use, but it's not a crusade for me. You seem to have a mission to extol the virtues of marijuana in ways that even hardcore NORML people don't seem to have. I'm not trying to be critical, I'm just curious. Please illuminate me.

Eastern POV
[Read the article: Terms of endearment]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I live north of the 45th parallel in Portland, OR and I have very good friends in San Diego more than 1400 miles south. We do not think of ourselves as northerners or southerners. We are westerners.

Herman
[Read the article: Terms of endearment]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I think you were trying to slam us Salon readers with your post, but where did you get the $42,500 number? That's just about the average family income in the U.S., and my guess is that the average Salon family, as it were, makes a good bit more than that. I could be wrong but my guess would be average family income of around $70,000 with some making a lot more than that. I don't understand why that bothers you, but it obviously does.

Vile
[Read the article: The terrible toll in Iraq]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]SR-
You are a notorious poster of vile here on Salon, but that has to be the most morally and intellectually bankrupt post I've seen from you. I've been involved in anti-war activities since 1965, and I've never met anyone from ANSWER, certainly don't know any supporters of Sendero Luminoso, wouldn't associate with Nazis or Nation of Islam or any other of these whackos. I did throw a blackshirt anarchist off the Hawthorne Bridge here in Portland for disrupting our peaceful protest. Oh yeah, I'm so radical that I'm an SVP of a giant U.S. bank, I have a 30 year marriage, I am a big-time taxpayer, I've been a member of the Democratic Party for 38 years and I would wager lot of money that I do much more to help people in my community than you do in yours. You are truly pathetic.

FAIR
[Read the article: The terrible toll in Iraq]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]To be fair, as it were, and I detest the AEI, Saddam's invasion of Iran produced 900,000 Iranian deaths. Saddam used phosgene, mustard gas and sarin on Iranian troops. At least 250,000 Iraqis also died. None of this mitigates the horror of the death toll in the current war, but things are what they are.

Wrong
[Read the article: Queer and loathing on Capitol Hill]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Van Souther-
Funny but significantly wrong.
- In inflation adjusted dolars, no one is even close to Nixon in terms of illegal campaign contribution deomestic or foreign.
- Far more of Nixon's cabinet officials and friends and associates were prosecuted than Clinton.
- Reagan had higher illegal campaign contributions in 1980 than Clinton ever did.
- Politically motivated investigations are meaningless unless there are convictions. Far more people in the Reagan admin were investigated than in the Clinton admin.
And, if you actually believe that Vince Foster was murdered, you are beyond pathetic.

The Nazis were Christians
[Read the article: When are women like "uncovered meat"?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Dayenu-
Enough of your obscene historical revisionism. There is zero evidence that Hitler was an atheist. He started as a Christian, repeatedly proclaimed his Christianity and dabbled in the occult. Not an atheist. The Nazis were Christians, and Christians alone were the perpetrators of the Holocaust. This endless attempt of Christians to evade responsibility for the Holocaust that they alone perpetrated is pure crypto-Nazi filth.
