Wow. I like that info. I do like 911s - I guess since I've owned three. I did drive them hard - these days I've changed my tune - but I did drive them hard, especially mountain roads. I used to drive with the fast cycle boys at 65 on Highway 1 north of San Francisco.
Well, you're not wrong as far as you go, but it is quite disingenuous not to finish the idea.
If a person does not know how to drive in snow, the vehicle type is pretty much irrelevant. I grew up in northern Michigan where there was very heavy snow. I can probably drive more safely and effectively in the snow than most people regardless of vehicle type. OTOH, a 4WD or AWD is much easier to handle than others if one does know how to drive in the snow. As I posted earlier, I drive an SUV hybrid (AWD) because nothing else will fit two people, four Siberian Huskies, a dogsled and related equipment.
Finally, if there is freezing rain, I just pull over for 10 minutes and put on my chains.
Actually, you might need to get over yourself. My father's 1972 Olsmobile station wagon weighed 4700 pounds and got about 11 mpg. My hybrid SUV weighs 3400 pounds and gets 28 mpg in all driving situations. That old station wagon was also longer and wider than my SUV, harder to park or maneuver and not all that comfortable for my parents and six kids.
You cannot get 2 adults, 4 Siberians, a dog sled and related equipment in a Prius or Vibe and you can't get 4WD with them.
Please
The term WASP actually applies to a fairly limited set of people. My ethnic heritage is German, Irish, French and Danish. The German part of my heritage is Prussian and Brandenburger. No Angels, Saxons or Jutes (the three tribes that migrated to what is now England in the 7-9th centuries) in my bloodline. So, I am a North Euopean mutt but definitely NOT an Anglo Saxon. Not a Protestant either.
As for Paltrow, her Jewish father tends to de-WASP her some. Plus, we don't know the specifics of Blythe Danner's heritage. Maybe not a WASP at all. Dangerous to go the way of stereotypes
Yes, things happen, and the response to those things often takes one in unexpected directions. I have been celibate for almost 4 years. I am neither happy nor unhappy about it. Almost 4 years ago, my wife of more than 30 years was diagnosed with ovarian cancer (stage 4 + at diagnosis). With the horrible surgeries, heavy chemo, etc., she was simply unable. Oh, we tried various things, but all of it was excruciatingly painful for her. I took her to Paris three times, we spent two weeks soaking up the sun on Nuku Hiva in the Marquesas, we got married again twice, etc. In the end, these experiences were far more important and wonderful than sex.
Now, she has been dead for just about a year now. I am simply not interested at the moment. I miss my wife. I am, for now, completly unavailable emotionally, and I am not interested in casual sex even though there are plenty of opportunities. Will I ever be interested again? I don't know. I hope so but I'm in no hurry. Is it possible that I could be celibate for the rest of my life? Yes. Not likely, but possible. But, I will always remember that I had it great for more than 30 years, so I plan to spend no time worrying about one way or the other.
I enjoyed the directness of the article.
Always the right wing nonsense. There hasn't been a 'far left' in the U.S. in more than 30 years. That you think that there is such a thing only proves what an ultra right wing extremist you are. AND, equating leftists with Muslim extremists is just a typical Rush limbaugh or Michael Savage like slur that further demonstrates your lack of critical thinking skills.
Sure, I would be willing to have dicussion about the Mumbai nightmare, but not in response to anyting the idiot Paglia has to say. Her article is the usual rambling pile of ignorance, fascism, hate mongering, dumbing down of the world that she is simply not worth any response. On a different forum, sure, anything related to the idiot, no.
Meryl Streep did precisely what was asked of her. She is the finest actress of my generation by miles and miles. If you give her a good script and capable direction, she will be brilliant. If you give her less, she will still be good. She was good in this film.
