The FRC opposes bith control pills, IUDs, vaginal rings, transdermal systems - you know, all the ones that actually work. They oppose these systems because they prevent implantation of a fertilized egg into the uterine wall. Somehow, they have translated this into calling those systems 'abortions'. Pathetic, both intellectually and morally. FRC does oppose contraception.

Abortion is a family planning choice, among many others, and the only disturbed ones in this debate are those who believe that the state has the right to intrude on women's reproductive choices. I believe that abortion should be leagl but rare, but I believe in abortion on demand. I'm a guy - it's not my decision, period, even for my wife.

FRC, Focus on the Family and the Tradional Values Coalition all support prayer in schools, teaching of intelligent design as science, etc., and that does qualify as attempting to impose religion on those of us who do not want it. I am an atheist, and I have no interest whatever in having public schools teach your children that there is no god. That's your business. So, why do these organizations want to teach my children that there is a god. You either believe in religious freedom or you don't. These organziations don't.

My argument regarding homosexuality and these organizations is not emotional at all. The FRC, Focus on the Family and the Traditional Values Coalition constantly rage about the homosexual agenda, the homosexual lifestyle, and then do everything possible to deny equal rights to American citizens solely on the basis of their status. Gary Bauer, James Dobson and Lou Shedlon are three of the most virulent anti-homosexual bigots in America. I know you can read and write quite well, but where have you been when the vitriol against homosexuals comes rolling out.

I do agree with you that vaccination against HPV should not be mandatory. To me, choice does mean choice. OTOH, I'm not sure that 12 year old girls have the inetellectual wherewithal or power to make decisions contrary to their parents' beliefs. Doesn't change my position, but it does make me nervous

You can argue all you want, but you cannot put words in my mouth and expect it to go unchallenged. There is no post that I have ever written on any forum that says I believe that abortion is a 'moral good'. It is sometimes the best choice among many bad ones. BUT, it's not your business at all. It is for each woman to decide.

OK, if you want to have the semantic argument, I withdraw my statement about contraception. In its place, I say FRC et al oppose birth control. AND, interference with what you call the progress of pregnancy is not an abortion. It's just anti-choice nonsense.

    Responses not in order.

I didn't actually call the FRC a hate group, but, based on its advocacy for imposed religion and its bigotry toward homosexuals, it is a hate group.

I didn't say anything about choice being choice until you challenged people based on that approach. If your child has not been vaccinated for diseases that are communicable without sexual intimacy, then I want them to be sparated from my children. If your children have not been vaccinated for something that is communicable only via sexual intimacy, then it's not my choice. I believe that it would be irresponsible not to have your daughters immunized, but it's still not my choice.

I thought I had my research straight on the FRC regarding birth control, but, based on your last post, maybe not. I will reexamine my assumptions re FRC through more research.

fertilized egg, embryo, whatever. I never claimed that anything destroyed a whatever just that the most effective methods of birth control prevent implantation.

[Read the article: Can Mike Huckabee out-charm the GOP big three?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

You just didn't make the case. Huckabee is a world class religious bigot, and, while that plays well to the very conservative base, independents don't want religion taught to their children in science classes, and Huckabee supports that - along with prayer in schools, much increased subsidies for religious organizations, etc. "Reclaiming America for Christ' is just code for elimination of religious freedom in America - not that we have it today, but the limited religious freedom that we do have will be much further limited.

A novel is whatever the novelist wants it to be. Period. It may not get published or read, but there are no rules other than those that the novelist imposes on him/herself. The very idea that a novelist needs to have read, for example, Tristram Shandy (IMHO a monumental piece of crap) is ludicrous. What is truly 'immoral' is the idea that some formalist jerkoff gets to determine the way that Western culture will be presented.
