Original article: The CIA's torture teachers

Jack Bauer

Maybe these folks think Jack Bauer is Real, I don't know. I do know that the issue for me reguarding torture is that it dosen't work. If it really could have stopped 9/11 I would say do what you have to do, but thats not the case.

Illigal

I am not a lawyer, but is bombing another country really a crime. I am not saying we should do it, in fact I am dead set against it, but the word illigal gets thrown around a lot. Who actually made it illigal to go to war?

Isreal is a client state, not an ally. We would not even think about useing neuclear weapons in a first strike to defend any other client state.

"But for comparison's sake a few years ago, the Iranian government rounded up 23 Jews at random declared them all spies, convicted them w/o trial and hanged 13 of them. Oooh boy some beauty contest. I you regret having missed that one. Would that we could do that in this country?"

I think we can now.

Our generals better not care what the Iraqis think, our state department and president should, but our millitary is not an orginazation we want making decisions based on foreign public opinion.

I get the feeling that if we elect someone that will continue our current foreign police, the world will be forced to "re-evaluate" how they view us.

Bucky

I hate to tell you this, but that is the history of (virtually?) every group of humans that have ever had the power to do so.

Bucky

Absolutley. The best way to keep a group from useing the government for nefarious purposes is to keep the government weak.

Romance

It's not new but most people in the west have never heard of it. Romance of the 3 kingdoms is a Chinease Historical fiction (heave on the fiction). It covers the period in which the Hahn Dynasty was brought down and the power struggles that ensue. Complete with magic, war, iand ntreague but no Romance It's 15 hundred pages of pure pleasure.

Fairness Doctorine

I would love to see the fairness docterine come back, that way we can go back to having only two points of view. It's either the Republican point of view, or the Democrat point of view, not having third and fourth points of view will make things so much less confusing.

Elections

Walter, maybe you can explaine how 12 million people that are violating our immigration laws, laws put in place be elected officals, would make good citizens of our democracy.

Voting

Actually in many states in this country if you have ever been convicted of a fellony you loose your right to vote.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 11:30 AM

The difference

I have already made my position clear (I am against this bill) but it seems like there are mainly three points of view here. People in favor of this bill look at this as an immigration debate. Some people against it think of this as a "rule of law" issue, and others think is is an an economic issue mainly relating to the poor.

Good answer

"Islamophobia is a shaming tactic

Islamophobia is a word applied to everybody who criticizes Islam to make him/her appear as a bigot or a sort of racist. When somebody has a valid argument against Islam, he receives the epitet of Islamophobic in order to shut him/her up. So arguments are not answered with arguments but with shaming adjectives"

Brilliant, but I have one question. Does it also apply to critics of illigal immagration?

Glenn

Glen, could you please tell us why the administration says they should not have to go through the FISA court. I would really like to know.

Wednesday, June 27, 2007 01:37 PM

FISA

I guess my question is, what does the administration say when asserting that they do not have to use the FISA court. They must say something.

Wednesday, June 27, 2007 01:49 PM

Thanks, that clears it up.

The only subpoena I am interested in seeing is the one with the word "IMPEACHMENT" in it.

Legacy

Sidney, good article but, why is it that in the media lately Chaney is evil and Bush is just inept. I think there is a lot of spin in Washington and it is affecting everyone in the media. I think Bush realized how he was going to be remembered and Chaney agreed to take the heat. They are doing a good job and I bet ten years from now most people will sorry for Bush, not because they should but because this campain is designed to make that happen. They are once again pulling the wool over peoples eyes, and we are going to fall for it.

-- EMStoveken

Your right, Chaney should be scrutenized, but in the last 6 weeks or so there has been a real shift in the media. Chaney is bad Bush is just inept. It's subtle and hidden but it is happening and not by accident. These people are very smart.

The Base

Bush has to pardon Libby, it is the only way he can placate his base after the immigration debaucle.

Let me get this straight

"Spouting opinions ...

... in place of any real analysis or facts.

Now read this article and come back and make the same inane remarks.

Your saying this discussion should involve facts not opinions, but you are sending people a link to OPINIONjournal.com. Read that one more time.......opinion

Original article: Libby spared the clink

Things looking up for Bush

His base was very upset about his support of the immigration bill and the fact that he didn't do anything about Libby. I bet you will see his approvial rating go up now between this and an end to the immigration debate.
