Is anyone really suprised by this...

and if you are, will you be suprided next time it happens too?

Sunday, August 9, 2009 06:52 PM

I am curious...

Does anyone on this website actually beleive that members of Congress put their constituents before their campaign doners? It always seems strange to me that some people act as though the government will protect us from big business, or that big business doesn't like big government. Imagine that you and a group of people get together and express your opinion on an issue to one of the members of Congress that represents you, and the next day some one that gave say $50,000 in soft money to them expresses the opposite opinion, does anyone beleive that you opinion would even be considered?

I would not discount Sarah Palin just yet.

Most Americans think that voting for any party other the Republicans or Democrats is throwing your vote away. This gives the far left and far right a lot of political clout. If in 2012 President Obama is very unpopular then whoever is the Republican nominee will have a good chance of winning. Because most people that vote in the primaries are on the far left and right, it is easy for someone on the fringes to get the nomination.

Ron Paul is right.

We should not be involving ourselves in other countries politics. We dont want their governments comming over here and telling us what to do.

Original article: The economic Civil War

When I first heard mention that...

the Senate not handing over money to the auto industry meant that the south wanted a kind of continuation of the civil war I thought it was a joke, but some of you are serious. All you r giong to do with this bailout (just like the financial bailouts) is make these indusrties less competative in the long run. Only one , Ford, of the "big three" even plans to be braking even in the next three years. Our financial bailout will encourage the finance companies to take overly risky positions in the future, and an auto bailout will keep these companies from making the tough decisions. Let them resructure in chapter 11.

Andrew I am curious

Will this guy have several billion dollars avaliable to use in his defence, because if so he's not going to jail.

Friday, December 12, 2008 06:37 PM

I don't beleive I have to be thankful for the GOP.

I am glad someonf finally started telling people that ran their companies into the ground "NO". I should have happened a few months ago, and I hope it continues.

Thursday, December 11, 2008 06:49 PM

I am just curious ...

How much of your own paychecks are each of you willing to give up to make this happen?

Monday, November 24, 2008 05:52 PM

I am kind of curous

Several of you have indicated that Bush ran his administration based on pragmatism. Could you site a few examples, because as far as I can tell it was all ideology?

Monday, November 24, 2008 05:13 PM

Thank God

Someone else that wants our counrty to stick its nose where it doesn't belong.

Wednesday, June 4, 2008 08:29 PM

It might be helpful to keep in mind...

That we are a nation of debtors, and if wages do end up riseing inflation can help us. If you owe money to someone and all of the sudden due to inflation your start making more money, it takes a smaller percentage of your wages to pay the debt back. Anything you have to buy in the future costs more but your debts are easier to manage. That assumes of course wages end up rising.

Wednesday, April 23, 2008 08:29 PM

I beleive you...

will find the same situation with the FED.

Monday, April 14, 2008 10:59 AM

Why do people keep blaming the FED?

My understanding (Andrew please correct me if I am wrong) is that the FED is not actually part of our government, instead it is a private orginization made up of privatly held banks, and they work for the government like any other contractor. The primary responsibility is to the share holders of those banks not us. The blame does not belong to the FED, it belong to policy makers and citizens who do not take the time to understand that.

I smell a back room deal

Keep an eye on this. I can easily see a situation where someone in congress said "we can wait a month till everything queits down and slip this in as an ammendment somewhere".

Tuesday, March 25, 2008 05:16 PM

So why is that....

such a terrible idea. If I move my money around should I be taxed on it?

Monday, March 17, 2008 07:11 PM

So we are clear.

We have Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, were both created by the government. VA loans, FHA loans and regulations in every state. All of that represents a lack of involvment? Just out of curiosity how much more regulation you want to see?

Why is there no reciprocation?

Original article: What the Huck?

It is about 2012.

When McCain get crushed in 08, the religious right can stand up and say something like, " ya saw what happened when we got ignored, so you better listen to us next time".

Monday, February 11, 2008 08:30 PM

I agree with Gary

The war is opposed by most people in the country, and at the moment it is going relativly well. If the democrats want to win they should hang George Bush and the Iraq war around the neck the republican nominee like an albatros. If the war is the biggest issue in the election the republicans lose, so....it probably wont be.

Wednesday, January 23, 2008 05:03 PM

In November....

Everyone need to get out and vote for your democtatic members of congress so they can....uh....nevermind.

Monday, January 7, 2008 04:13 PM

"What is to stop [states] from slacking off [sales tax enforcement] and giving their citizens a tax cut at federal expense? "

Oh No!!! That would give the states a chance to respond to federal power grabs. We wouldn't want that.

Have you considered sports reporting?

You could make a lot of money betting against the team you are covering.

Tuesday, December 18, 2007 03:45 PM

Wow.

Did Salon actually publish an article about the minutemen and not use the word vigilante?

Thursday, December 13, 2007 03:18 PM

This isn't free market.

These are mainly FHA loans.

Walter, do you think people in a neighborhood watch program are vigilantes too?

what suposedly was wrong with this guys trial? What was "nefarious" (other than my spelling)?

Thursday, November 29, 2007 11:29 AM

Paul in KY

Germany may have won the war, but it is doubtful they would have ruled the continent. Even fi the did end up ruling Europe, so what.

Thursday, November 29, 2007 09:52 AM

I wish Paul had pointed out to McCain....

that had we not involved ourselfs in WWI there probably would not have been a WWII, and Hilter would probably never have come to power.

the Libertarian party will be the ultimate beneficiary of this.
