Though I am not a 'light' sleeper, I do move around alot, sleep in different positions every night and generally like to sprawl across the whole bed at times. This presented the same kind of problem last month when my girlfriend moved in with me. She likes to cuddle, sleeps in the same position every night and wanted to share my bed. While we were living in different cities, this wasn't so much a problem because we would only be together for 2 or three nights at a time and I could just deal with it. But for extended periods, my shoulder would start to hurt from always sleeping in the same position and I would start losing sleep. My (our) solution? Seperate beds! When she moved in, I just had her bring her bed too. Sure, it takes up almost all the room in our bedroom, but at least I can get a good nights rest. I just make sure to cuddle for awhile after sex and maybe climb into bed with her in the mornings to lounge together so she can feel close. While she doesn't love the arrangement, she understands, and has even rationalized that since we cuddle on the couch while watching TV, we are doing allright. Perhaps eventually we will look for a gigantic bed which we could share, financially this is not possible right now.
Tim, you rightly draw attention to Ms. Loven's article, but then you give in to the temptations of another rhetorical fallacy, The Bubble Boy Excuse:
Of course, it’s possible that the president doesn’t know. It’s hard to tell what gets into his bubble — or up to his “perch,” as he described it before he thought better of it today.
True, Bush’s words almost never match up with the reality on the ground, and increasingly don’t even jibe with what he has said before - but that is not an excuse, it’s just more examples of just how much the administration has been able to control the exact rules of the debate.
Now that at least one person in the mainstream press has proved that she can think critically and point out an obvious rhetorical ruse used by these guys to manipulate the debate - and one with such an evocative name - the Dem and left-of-center taking pundits must start invoking it at every opportunity. “But that’s a Straw-Man fallacy, Chris. No one on our side of the isle wants that…” should become as common a phrase on Hardball as “Some say…” is in Dear Leader’s speeches.
If the Democrats had any tactical smarts they'd be sending envoy's to Craig. The Deal: Craig defects. The Dems promise not to run anyone else in his state against him in 2008. The Dems won't pressure him to otherwise vote in their (ha) block, and in return he provides Lieberman Insurance.
The stunning vacuousness of our media elite was on display last night on the Bill Maher show: Joel Stein and Chris Matthews both came off as dumb as bricks (especially compared to Sheila Jackson Lee). Stein (who was billed as "very funny") interjected just twice during the whole program, both times only to prove how the media 'elite' mind works by being smarmy and complacent regarding the exact issue of media smarmyness and complacency.
And don't even get me started on Tweety. My dad still likes the guy, but in every interview (book promo tour) these days he comes off as nothing short of DUMB. Maher was grilling his panel on the fact that out media prefers 'gotcha' politics and BritneyNews over actual political reporting, and Matthews - has-his-own-political-talk-show Matthews - just sat there with a stupid grin and said shit like "golly, I wonder why that is?" and "it's too bad" that the media isn't tougher. Does the guy not have editorial control over his own show?
Venturing a guess... my bet is that Boylan has a staffer whose job is is to troll left-wing blogs and compose pushy emails in the style of the Colonel. Thus, he says he did not 'send' you the first email - a parsing to be sure - but one he feels no need to clear up, and in fact encourages for the simple reason he enjoys controling the information theatre. That IS his job, anyway. He thinks he's performing some sort of psy-ops mind-fuck, and could care less if you waste time conjecturing on the abilty of anyone to hack his office.
Obama beat Clinton by 48% in Kansas, 50% in Idaho, 51% in DC, 52% in Hawaii, and a whopping 63% in Idaho. So by Kristol's logic, NEITHER candidate can win the primary, since both were beaten by more than 41%.
