  • Here's why I think Ferraro's comment is ridiculous.

[Read the article: Reexamining the Ferraro fracas]

Ferraro says Obama is lucky. This implies that Obama has some intangible advantage that Hillary Clinton does not have; and that's why Obama is ahead.

But it ignores the fact that Hillary Clinton has a natural appeal to another large Democratic voting bloc and has the additional "luck" of being married to a popular former President.

So at the very least their identity appeal is a wash; but I think with the addition of name recognition Mrs. Clinton has the advantage.

Where this gets ugly is, historically, being a black man in America has been anything but lucky.

Does Obama benefit from overwhelming black support, yes. But again the key word is OVERWHELMING. He would still be winning in elected delegates and just barely winning the popular vote if the black vote were split evenly between the two candidates.

The additional black votes are really overkill.

Few of the states so far are majority black Democrats, so to say he is winning because of his appeal to black voters is disingenious. The largest southern states, Virginia and Georgia, Obama did well across all demographics.

I imagine Virginia scared the hell out of someone because what seems to be happening is there is an attempt to use Obama's strength with the black community to drive a wedge between Obama and white voters. Many believe this was tried after SC and failed.

I hope that Democrats of all races and genders see this for what it is and reject it out of hand.

If years in close proximity in Washington were the most important reason to select a President, I guess you'll be voting for McCain.

What will be Mrs. Clinton's plan to run against McCain?

Experience? National security? Will she run a 3am phone call ad, or will McCain simply rerun her ad with himself at the helm?

Some of the most seasoned and experienced experts were at the helm during this Bush fiasco, and where has it gotten us?

We don't need the same old ideas and attitudes running things again and again.

Mrs. Clinton is a retread of incompetency, cronyism, centrist DLC clap-trap. Luke warm Republicanism at tis worst.

Truman said if the American people have a choice between a Republican and and Democrat acting like a Republican, they'll pick the republican every time.

  • I think I've written about this before

[Read the article: Who wants to be a Democrat?]

And it's a little off topic, but I think it shows the strength of the Obama campaign's organizational strength on the ground.

Regardless of how you vote; open primary, closed primary, caucus etc, you're not actually selected the delegates who will go to the convention. Every state is a little different, but for the most part delegates are selected in some sort of caucus in EVERY state.

I've been at this a long time (40+ yrs) and have met some great Democrats all over the country. And what I'm hearing reflects my own experience this year.

In 2004 about 30 people showed up at my district caucus to select delegates. This year, over 150 showed up. Now, my district voted for Hillary in a closed primary, but the delegates who were elected at the selection caucus were all Obama supporters. From what I'm hearing this has been happening across the country.

Why is this important? Because even if these delegates do cast their vote for Senator Clinton on the first ballot (and according to her, they do't even have to do that!!) who do you suppose they will vote for on the second ballot?

I still can't believe that her campaign has been so over matched that they don't even see this coming. I mean, if she's suggesting that even PLEDGED delegates can vote for whomever they wish, she obviously doesn't know that the deck is being stacked against her.

Again, when you vote in a primary, you are NOT electing delegates. You have to show up at selection caucuses to do that. And that's exactly what these grassroots activists have been doing for Obama.

  • By my calculation - from my post below-

Obama may ALREADY have the delgates he needs to secure the nomination and apparently the Clinton campaign doesn't even realize it.

  • And finally - on the subject of Obama's strength on the ground -

[Read the article: Who wants to be a Democrat?]

Every precinct committeeman, and member of the county central committee that were not with Obama was voted out in my county.

I'm still amazed that the political earthquake happening to the Democratic Party on the local level has been completely under the national media radar.

I've begun to wonder how this will affect state races, Congressional races in the years to come.

The Obama thing isn't just about the Presidency. THis is the great under told story of this political cycle.

The grassroots movement started with Dean, and the meetups, and netroots and the DNC 50 state strategy is also coming to fruition at the local level all around the nation.

    Dean's 50 state strategy was a failure.

I'll alert Senators Webb and Tester and all of the other "Blue Dogs" elected in 2006 that Dean's 50 state strategy has failed.

Chuck Schumer and Don Fowler has backed Howard Dean and the fifty-state strategy, the Association of State Democratic Chairs did the same, and Dean scored a 96% approval rating on the Democratic leadership poll after the 2006 elections (highest for a DNC chair since the polls have been taken).

The DNC has been rolling in cash from newly energized Democrats in what was written off by former DNC chair and Clintonite Terry Mcauliffe as unwinnable "red" states.

The Democratic party is only just now recovering from the losses in the House, Senate, Governorships, State Reps that were lost while President Clinton was triangulating.

The absolute funniest damn thing I've read in a long time!

I've seen video of Hillary, Chelsea, Sinbad and Sheryl Crow getting off of the plane. I've DL'd it from usenet and converting it for youtube right now.

Nice little stroll off of the plane, shaking hands with local digs and US Soldiers. Everyone smiling, very relaxed. I wonder how this is going to play running side by side with Hillary's recollection of the landing?

  • Here's pic from the video of Mrs. Clinton landing in Bosnia in 1996
