That's right "wright5579"
[Read the article: Betrayed by Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Don't vote for Obama. Don't send him any money. Whatever you need to do to feel clean and pure.
I'm going to keep swinging the hammer to make sure McCain isn't elected President. Whatever it takes.
This FISA bill was going to pass regardless of how Obama voted. He could have made a symbolic vote against the bill and watch the Republicans run ad after ad telling low-info voters that Obama loves the terrorists. After all, he's only ahead by single digits in Ohio and PA.
So yeah, if you're hitting Obama for something he felt he needed to do to win this election and prevent four years of "bomb bomb bomb Iran", you are a Republican troll; whether you realise it or not.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]How are you the victim of "bait and switch"?
You never supported Obama, so how are you injured. I on the other hand have supported Obama from the very beginning and I don't feel abused at all.
It's obvious from your previous posts you believe McCain will be elected and are doing your very best to make that prediction come true.
This might be the biggest difference of all between Clinton and Obama supporters as witnessed by you, Joan Walsh, katetex, aka smith et al. If Hillary won the nomination, I would be fighting hammer and tongs to get her elected. You people howl about Obama's supposed betrayal of progressive principles, yet do everything in your power to get McCain elected.
You peoples' loyalties to progressive principles go about as deep as a mud puddle on a dusty road.

Obama sold the soul of the Democratic party?
[Read the article: Betrayed by Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Really?
That's about as extreme as saying Obama's vote on FISA is "unforgivable".
Look, I get it. You don't like Obama, you preferred Hillary. i have a newsflash for you, there may be a chasm between Obama and McCain but there isn't a dime's worth of distance between Obama and Clinton. Honestly, if you don't think Hillary Clinton would be moving to the right on all these same issues you don't really know Hillary Clinton.
So spare me the drama about Obama selling the soul of the Democratic party. I remember when Bill Clinton flew back to Arkansas to execute a retarded guy in '92.
By the way, take a real good look at past elections. The only Democrat who was accused of moving to the center after getting the nomination was Bill Clinton in 1992.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Spare me the bull. If you didn't roll over for every single lurch to the right made by Clinton, your protestations against Obama would hold a little more water.
I hated this bill, didn't want Obama to vote for it. But if you really care about restoring Constitutional rights, you aren't going to get it with McCain in the White House.
That's just a stone cold fact.
And you ain't going to restore civil rights by voting for Nader and the Green party.
I'm going to start calling you people copperhead Democrats. All you're doing is giving aid and comfort to the real enemies of our civil right and the Constitution.

Joan is killing a once great mag

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Just look at Salon's financials:
http://biz.yahoo.com/e/080627/slnm.ob10-k.html
Bottom line?:
Salon's net revenue decreased 3% to $7.5 million in the year ended March 31, 2008 from $7.7 million in the year ended March 31, 2007.
Salon Premium subscription revenues decreased by 14% to $1.3 million for the year ended March 31, 2008 from $1.5 million for the year ended March 31, 2007.
And why does Joan Walsh write these inflamatory articles she knows will drive page hits (while simultaneously appearing on "Hardball")?
Attracting more unique Website visitors is important to Salon as they generate page views, and each page view becomes a potential platform for serving advertisements.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Obama had a unique opportunity to at least be a politician who manifested integrity, and ideally someone who harnessed the power of that grassroots action. He can no longer claim that integrity
That's just it, grassroots movements can't rely on any individual politician or political party to change society. I was never relying on Obama to do the things we must do ourselves. But we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that as a movement, progressives NEED a receptive political leader in the White House that can be moved.
We elect politicians who are more receptive to progressive thinking and push them with sheer numbers.
Abolitionists were appalled by the nomination of Lincoln. One of his biggest critics was Frederick Douglas. They would have rather had Chase or Seward. But Chase or Seward would never had been elected and what direction would history have taken if Douglas was elected instead of Lincoln?
With Obama, progressives have an opportunity to make gains. Were the Republicans to retake the Congress or retain the White House, the opportunities will be nil.

Progressives - Their own worst enemy
[Read the article: Betrayed by Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]2000 - " Al Gore is no better than George W. Bush. Better to vote for Nader and let Bush win. Then when America goes to crap, progressives will be called on to save the world!"
2004 - " What idiot ever said Gore is no different than Bush? Nader should be hanged!"
2008 - " Obama is no better than John McCain. I'm not going to vote for Republican light. I mean, what's the worse that can happen in a McCain Presidency if Democrats control Congress?"
Man this is getting old!

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Do you feel like a blind follower?
Here's the thing, Bush governed in a way that appealed directly to his base. And these people, like Bush, have little regard for the Constitution. Bush once called it just a piece of paper.
Regardless of this vote, I don't see how any intelligent person could think Obama will go down the same path as Bush, or McCain for that matter.
Obama's not perfect. He's getting advice on what he needs to do to get elected and rightly or wrongly, he's following it.
Strangely enough, McCain didn't even show up for the vote.
