  • Joan is on Hardball quite often

And I usually read the comments after.

Never have I seen this many first time posters after one of Joan's TV appearances. Her previous appearances where after much more controversial topics.

It just appears that either Salon is trying to "manage" the debate on the letter boards or someone else is being paid to steer the debate.

Either way, it's transparent and has backfired horribly.

  • Yeah, Joan called out Mathews for folks saying Clinton should leave the race

But Bill Clinton is taking about the way she's being treated TODAY. Who has in the last month said Clinton should get out?

They may be saying that mathematically she can't win. But Tim Russert played a clip if him saying the same thing in 1992, saying that Bill Clinton had the race locked up. Not surprisingly, the Clintons didn't complain at that time. But then neither did Jerry Brown, the candidate who was losing to Clinton.

  • Hillary Clinton supporters thank Joan Walsh for her support...

More single post Clinton supporters directed from Taylormarsh.com want to say "Thank you" to Joan for her "unbiased" views.

I hope for Salon and Joan's sake these people are signing up as subscribers.

    There's no obsession.

I'm just wary of directed or organized letter campaigns.

It feels fake and manufactured. Maybe I'm being childish, but I guess since I've supported Salon in one form or another for about ten years with cash, subscriptions, gift subscriptions, pushing word of mouth to get others to subscribe etc, I get a little pissy being treated like an idiot by Joan Walsh.

She picks apart every single utterance of Sen. Obama and blames Obama or his supporters for Sen. Clinton's problems.

Now we have people who never supported this site before telling us how great Walsh is in spewing this bullshit.

My point is, I've stopped advertising Salon to people I know. I've stopped giving gift subscriptions. And I don't think I'm alone in this.

So I hope Salon can get along with these single day subscribers and Mrs. Clinton's supporters. With gas and food costs rising, I can ill afford supporting a person who seems to go out of her way to paint me a sexist pig.

  • Oh boy

The Clinton supporters are going to ream you for this one.

Everybody knows that the only way Obama can possibly win is to put Mrs. Clinton on the ticket.

  • lolcait I'm curious

Could you please go back and tell us what the polls were saying 6 months ago about Obama's chances of winning this nomination?

I think if this primary process has proven ANYTHING its that this year, long range polls are meaningless.

It would be better if Hillary and her supporters could convince folks that she would make a better President. Her position on mandating health insurance alone would doom her with the middle class in the fall.

Relying on polling and maps created by Republican operatives ain't gonna do it.

  • Barack Dukakis is funny

[Read the article: Will the youth vote win it for Obama this fall?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

A couple of months ago we were trying to think of some funny names to call John McCain that would. John McSame, John InSane etc.

After awhile we realized his name is already John McCain. You can't really top that when it comes to losers.

  • Organization trumps everything

[Read the article: Will the youth vote win it for Obama this fall?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

because it leads to high turnout.

McCain has very little organization in almost 40 states. I know conservatives who say that when Romney dropped out, the race was over. They'd rather see Obama win and come back in 4 years with a conservative than be stuck with 8 years of the RINO McCain.

I don't see Republican turnout anywhere near the numbers of 2004. And all polling is weighted by the numbers four years ago.

By contrast, in all of these swing states, an increase of AA and youth turnout of just 10% wins them handily for the Democrats.

Obama's campaign has organizations at the precinct level in every single state. His campaign's religous outreach alone (which meets weekly in homes around the nation) is larger than McCain's entire ground organization, and the religious outreach is one of the campaign's smallest committees.

Every professional and old time pol in the country will tell you that half of the battle is the lists of voters and the organization that gets them to the polls.

The youth vote will be a piece of the puzzle, but it isn't the most important or even the biggest piece in Obama's electoral strategy.

The Obama campaign has shown over and over again that it has the ability to out organize even the best oiled political machines.
