  • the important part

[Read the article: Obama's European problem]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"Should Obama wonder whether he ought to have bothered with his subcommittee, he could ask his friendly rival Joe Biden, D-Del., who chaired the Europe subcommittee for many years during the Cold War. Biden effectively exploited the chairmanship to transform himself from a junior member into one of the Senate's most knowledgeable experts on arms control, nuclear weapons, European attitudes toward America and the Soviet Union, the European Union's policies, and the role of NATO, which also comes under the subcommittee's mandate. As a result, Biden starred in Senate hearings on the SALT II arms treaties and eventually established himself as a leading national voice on foreign policy."

That paragraph sums up the problem with Obama. Biden took advantage of the situation and became a foreign policy expert. I get the feeling from Obama this sort of thing is just something to add to his resume. He had a golden oportunity to build some formidable credentials, and he blew it off. Talking about "change" and "hope" is meaningless. At this point we need someone willing to roll their sleeves up and work. I see Obama as very cosmetic. I was leary of him, but was willing to give him a good look. I just don't see that much there.

I'm leaning heavily towards Biden or Dodd in the primary election. If Edwards takes off after Iowa and seems to have a real shot I'll vote for him. Obama just doesn't have the depth or experience.

  • as she put it, she feels God calling her to coach the church's youth basketball team in a game that night instead.

[Read the article: Mike Huckabee's leap of faith]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I've noticed with alot of these arch conservative christians that God has a very convenient way of calling them to do things that THEY want to do. There is a phoniness that starts at the top with with their huckster ministers and drains right down through the congregation. they use god as a blunt-force instrument not a moral compass.

My hope is that Huckabee fails in Iowa and disappears quickly leaving the christian wackos no where to turn.

  • "Tomorrow Belongs to Me"

[Read the article: Barack Obama's nouvelle vague]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I get a very strong "Tomorrow Belongs to Me" vibe from the Huckabee crowd not the Obama crowd.

I wasn't impressed with Obama from the get go. I tried. I gave him a closer look and I just don't see much there. He sounds more like he's running for high school class president than President of the United States.I'm not sure if he's a vacant as he appears or its deliberate evasion. Either way, its not what we need.

  • guarantee

[Read the article: Michael Bloomberg: Trans-partisan savior]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

A Bloomberg run would guarantee a Republican win. There's no question about it.

  • When asked to comment on Benazir Bhutto's death...

[Read the article: Huckabee, Iran and Britney Spears]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...he also thought Pakistan was still under a state of emergancy.

So Mike Huckabee is clueless as to vital developments concerning foreign policy AND the latest about Britney Spears and Dancing With the Stars. I guess he;s not qualified for the presidency or Entertainment Tonight. All of this is meaningless, however. Christians will vote for him no matter how unqualified or inept he is. He's already being marketed in the same way George Bush was ("Yes he sounds stupid, but so do I." "I'd rather go to a bbq with him than_______.") People fall for that all the time.

Of all the Republicans Huckabee scares me the most. There is a fawning over him by late night hosts, reporters, etc. that is disturbing. He'd get the entire christian vote and he'd pick up alot of the "uniformed" voters who would fall for his vaguely stupid nice guy act. Wall Street Republicans would hold their noses and vote for him hoping for a sweep of congress. Plus enough Democrats would talk the talk and fail to vote. If Huckabee were to get the nomination he'd have a real shot at winning.

  • Why didn't he just cancel the ad?

[Read the article: An accountability moment, Huckabee style]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Why did he need to make a big production number out of cancelling an ad no one would have seen if he just quietly shelved it? He really has the stink mendacity all over him. What galls me is that the media treats him with such kid gloves. Even when he's confronted on something such as this, he's allowed to pull the aw-shucks, innocent Mayberry routine. Just wait to see how Leno kisses his ass tonight.

  • I know its cheap, but I have to say it

[Read the article: Not ready for prime time (again)?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

For a while now Huckabee has reminded me of something. then it hit me. He reminds me of the guys who get nailed on To Catch a Preditor. I can see him in the kitchen with Chris Hansen trying to wiggle off the hook all the time maintaining his doe-eyed dumbness. Now everytime I see Huckabee all I'll picture is him face down on the driveway surrounded by cops and cameras.

  • Dead or Alive: Clinton looks calm, composed despite bad poll news

[Read the article: Clinton looks calm, composed despite bad poll news]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Back in the mid 80's I went to a Dead or Alive concert. Midway through the show Pete Burns dropped his microphone and his voice, obviously taped, went on. Like any good baton twirler he smiled, picked up the microphone and continued as though nothing happened. In the audience we all rolled our black shaddowed eyes and went back to our drinks.

Clinton (and the other candidates) is a pro just like anyone else in showbusiness. She, and any of the others, will looked calm and composed right up through the moment they drop out of the race. Rest assured, anyone dropping in the polls may look calm and composed, but behind the scenes I'd hate to be one of their campaign workers.

When she comes in third in Iowa we'll definitely see the rigmo-smile as she tap dances around the disaster.
