Terry Schiavo was just a hint

Terry Schiavo exposed the first cracks in the Christian rights foundation. They've very successfully wrapped themselves in catch-phrases like "family values" and "values voters." I think alot of people just looked at them as well-intentioned, if, stridently, religious. They've expertly used gays and, now, immigrants, to feed people's fears and prejudices. Terry Schiavo exposed them to the public at large for the first time. And people smacked the Christian right down hard on that one. I have a feeling the more bizarre and outregeous the Republican primary gets, the more off-putting it will be to most people. George Bush sold himself as a strong born again Christian, but he certainly didn't wade into the lunatic territory these guys are in now.

The End of Times, Jesus and Satan brothers? discuss, prayer has elevated my poll numbers, there is no freedom without religion...a line has been crossed big time, and I can't help but think most people aren't comfortable beyond that line.

The Democrats cannot allow themselves to be drawn into this lunacy.

I'm hard at work

designing a cuckoo clock that has Mike Huckabee pop out every half hour.

The profoundly frightening thing is that this man is in contention to become the President of the United States. Its equally frightening to think he actually was elected and served as a state governor.

this is why people hate her

I have a feeling if this latest stunt really backfires on her she'll play the victim again. If he's intensly disliked by so many people she only has herself to blame. I don't mind going after a rival strongly over real diferences in policy, etc., but she's resorting to the scummiest of lever...AND hiding behind campaign lackeys. This isn't the first time, and we haven't even gotten to the first primary yet.

I really hope she gets knocked out early, so we can proceed without the Clinton foolishness manopolizing everything.

She had a marquee name

She's a big name. She's soaring in the national polls because people know her. As the campaign moves on and the other candidates familiarize themselves with thepublic (in the local primary races) her numbers start to fall. People see other options to the "big name." And frankly, as she's out there actively campaigning people are beginning to remember why she was so disliked. Add to that Bush/Clinton fatigue.

She started out strong because she was the only game in town. Now she's not, and her negatives are beginning to bubble up to the surface: dodgy and calculating, questionable honesty, shrill, negative in a low sort of fashion, corporate shill. She's quickly wearing out her welcome...and the entitled attitude puts alot of people off.

and Barack looked vicious when he replied

THAT was vicious? Jeez that was far less vicious than the inscriptions I put in Christmas cards.

"Clinton herself reportedly apologized to Obama for Shaheen's remarks earlier today.

Then promptly leaked to reporters from the Washington Post Obama's intention to use White Rabbit as his official campaign song.

"only Republican who appeared to have a chance of not engaging in Dirty Tricks"

He was a sleaze-bag when he was governor of Arkansas. this doesn't suprise me at all.

He's a Christian, that's all that matters

Plenty will be oozing out about Mike Huckabee as his campaign rolls forward, but to his supporters none of it will matter. He's a Christian, that's all they need to know. "Christian" means power, power to opress and strangle freedoms and scew education. Yhose people don't give a rat's ass about anything else.

This is very curious

I've been reading stories for awhile now (and just a big piece on NPR this morning) about Afghanistan being on the brink of "lost cause" if something doesn't turn around. Yet this weekend we get "official" word that cross boarder attacks are way down (of course what does that really mean?). The news from Iraq is completely schizoid. The Administration and generals on the ground paint a glowing picture of disappearing violence and people returning in droves to the Emerald City, er, Bagdhad. But everyday we read of another car bomb, the refugees returning because Syria is expelling them, more people are fleeing everyday than are returning, the returning ones don't know where to go where its safe, electricity?, yeah right.

Unfortunately people are gullible, and my fear is that they will give the adminstration the benefit of the doubt and fall for it.

and am I the only one who suspects american casualties are down because the troops are being held back? Kind of a grand coincidence how that has worked out heading into the campaign.

re: It is time for Reid to go.

And he can take Pelosi with him. those two have demonstrated the most abysmal leadership imaginable.

In the long run, it would have been much better had the Deomcrats not retaken the Senate in 2006. Reid is an absolute disgrace.

There might be some ointment or anti-biotic that could help with that.

Maybe he's found a mission more important than running for President

When I took the ideal candidate poll, Dodd was my choice as well. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a chance. Maybe that's not such a terrible thing. Chris Dodd may emerge as a formidable force to reckon with in the Senate. We may need him there more than in the White House. One thing that's for certain: Reid has to go. I'm not buying the sob story about his support back home. The last thing we need are Democratic senators acting like Republicans. You know what? Elect Republicans. Reid has to go.

My only hope is that the others running will set their priorities straight and offer their support come January. There's a good chance Biden will. Obama and Clinton? Don't hold your breath.
