This is America
[Read the article: Hillary Clinton can take it]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm leaning strongly towards Dodd in the primaries, although I also like Biden and feel Edwards would be a strong candidate. In other words, I haven't made a definite decision yet. I read what these candidates say. I watch the debates to hear their views and guage the way they present themselves.
Hillary Clinton was annointed not only the front runner but the Democratic candidate from the moment she announced. Tuesday night's debate highlight stark contrasts between the candidates. Naturally Clinton was singled by the others for being the front runner peddling murky and conflicting positions on the major issues. Her weaknesses were put on glaring disply (as were those of that other media darling Barak Obama who looked weak and floundering). The strengths of several of the others came to the forefront.
Unfortunately, the only thing most people will talk about is the clinton caampaign supplied notion that she was attacked for being a women. I don't hear anyone talking abut Joe biden's excellent (and very important) comparison and connection of Iran and Pakistan (a concept Clinton looked startled by before she jumped in with "I agree with Joe...although her "agreement with Joe" didn't mesh too well with her own answer to the question). Unfortunately no one is talking about the important point that other candidates actually scored in that debate. Its all How did Clinton perform? How did Obama perform? Now the clinton campaign has opened the door for a real tabloid campaign. Unfortunately a tabloid campaign is what most people can understand and respond to. Unfortunately we'll get stuck with a continuation of the toxic, divisive, paranoid Clinton/Bush years.
Unfortunately, this is America.

Osama
[Read the article: Beware the Google]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Maybe if George bush had actually put the effort where it should have been put Osama would have been delt with a number of years ago
...hey maybe if George Bush had actually paid attention to Osama's warnings two planes wouldn't have smacked into a couple of skyscrapers.

She peaked too soon
[Read the article: Clinton, Obama and Iran]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Up until this point she hasn't been challenged or held accountable. She has just been marveled at as an Almighty Clinton. That debate Tuesday night was definitely a "pay no attention to that man behind the curtain" moment.
THAT was reall her responce to Obama introducing restrictive legislation on Iran? Besides perfectly illustrating her dishonesty and double talk, it sounds more than desperate...it sound crazy.

I am disappointed with any Democrats and Independents who aren't willing to at least reexamine why they feel a visceral dislike of her.
[Read the article: The era of Hillary begins]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Probably because alot of people remember the 8 years of rancor and divisiness and secrecy of the Clinton years. Much of the Clinton's problems were self-inflicted and led us on the path to the horror that is the Bush adminstration.
8 years of clinton psychodrama, 8 years of Bush psychodrama...enough already. The first primary hasn't even taken place and were back to the old Clinton grind. Its time to move on. Hillary clinton has offered nothing but more of the same. She's been dodgy and downright dishonest, and that's not what we need or can afford at this time.
We sure don't need another cult of personality that resulted in our current mess. Listen to what the candidates really say, and its clear Clinton is not the way to go.

I expected the Republicans
[Read the article: Obama on "boys against girl"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]to drag the campaign into the sleazy tabloid territory. Unfortunaltely, Sen. Clinton has done that herself.
We have found ourselves with both a woman and an African American in serious contention for the Democratic nomination. Up until now, what was refreshing was the fact that neither gender nor race were distracting sideshows. I thought, wow, we really have come a long way. I expected the Republicans to use bias and fear to turn this into a tabloid campaign. I hate to say it but alot of people are too lazy or wittless to really pay attention to the issues and get sucked in by meaningless diversions. Its a shame that Sen. Clinton, herself, has redueced the campaign to its lowest form so far. Its cheap, its sleazy, its unfounded and quite frankly, it should be beneath her.
My suggestion is that Sen. clinton state her positions forthrightly and clearly and answer questions in an open, consistant and honest manner.
Let's face it, we've been through the clinton double talk and slight of hand with Bill Clinton. We've been through the lies and treachury of George Bush. I think people are ready, and hoping for something different.

and we wonder why
[Read the article: Kucinich, Ahmadinejad and the tongue stud]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Clinton played the gender card? Are vital national issues really important to most people, or are most people more interested in tongue studs and "boy vs girl" silliness?

Zandru
[Read the article: Obama on "boys against girl"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]What struck me about that debate was that I actually got a very stronfg sence of where the other candidates stood on issues and d how they would deal with them. The Clinton "pile-on" was for her dodgy, evasive and (regarding her husband's presidential documents) downright dishonest. If she had ANSWERED the questions there would have been little opportunity to "pile on. Her evasiveness and double talk has been a constant for her. Tuesday night she was rightfully challenged on her own behavior.
There were disagreements between the others, but there was no reason to pile on. She deserved it...and the American people were owed it.
