  • If he ran

[Read the article: Gore in '08, or why it won't happen]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

He'd have to take money from GE, the big oil companies, AIPAC...Pretty soon his talk on Iraq would be muddy on Iran would be threatening, he'd offer a healthcare proposal that would make the prognosis for the healthcare industry very bright. Global warming? probably no mention.

Let's face it, the White House and Congress are bought and paid for. We just vote in a sick beauty pagent. Al Gore doesn't need it. He's working on things that matter to him and getting all the recognition he could hope for.

The thought of Al Gore jumping in at the last minute and saving the day in a flourish of rightousness is a nice fantasy, but in reality he'd have to stoop to the lowest level. Besides, Hillary Clinton is already the corporately annointed President.

  • I'll say it.

[Read the article: Al Gore's win, America's loss]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I firmly believe if Al Gore had rightfully assumed office in 2000, 9/11 would not have happened. I believe that now, and I thought so on that morning watching those buildings collapse.

When history looks back on the complete and total failure of this adminstration, the criminality of it, the 2000 election will be be recorded as one of this nation's greatest disasters.

Sometimes when talking about all that is happening I'll ask people if theever wonder what things would be like if...I get an uncomfortable stare and silence. I think most people can't even bring themselves to ponder how close we were to avoiding this hell.

  • speechless

[Read the article: Al who? Clinton announces another endorsement]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I don't know where to start.

"Bill Clinton is one of the few presidents that can stand up and sing every verse of 'Lift Every Voice and Sing.'"

"There is this feeling, I think, that if the president is good, if the husband is good, then the wife is going to be good, and Mrs. Clinton would be good as president. I think it has some of that."

I would shake my head in amazement even if those statements were made by someone uneducated and uninformed, but coming from "civil rights icon and Georgia Rep. John Lewis" it defies belief. And we wonder why this country is in trouble. There is no difference between foolish statements like those of Rep. Lewis or those of the people who voted for Geoerge Bush because they'd rather go to a barbecue with him or because "he sounds stupid just like me." Folks, this is how most people vote. This is why we're in so much trouble.

  • He would, but...

[Read the article: "You don't have to get snippy about this"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...he'll be busy hosting a Rose Garden reception for Soldier of Fortune's Man of the Year.

  • You see, the same thing was said about Ronald Reagan and look how history judged him.

[Read the article: "You don't have to get snippy about this"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I don't think history has had its say yet. The Republican Party and conservatives have beatified him, that's true, but I'd call that a faith based initiative rather than history.

  • perfect

[Read the article: American flag pins are for idiots]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

From the first word to the last.

And its not just the pins. They've stole the flag. I'm beginning to cringe whenever I see it. It coming to represent not america, but the very worst that america has to offer.

  • I'm sort of enjoying it.

[Read the article: Nah, they've just got a "wide stance"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I have no use for the old hypocrite, but I don't blame him for going down swinging. I mean what he did is sleazy, but I don't think its as outrageous as, say, paying a prostitute to change your diaper. The Republicans don't seem very distressed by Vitter's continued presence in the Senate. If Craig wants to make them squirm, well great. I'll enjoy the spectacle.

  • What we're fighting for

[Read the article: Must be more "phony soldiers"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

A story over the wires today say Shi'ite leaders in the souther provinces (isn't that where things are supposed to be a rosy success?) are instituting strict Islamic rule.

Iraq was seen as an oil grab and big money making scheme for the administration's well connected corporate cronies. It has funneled billions and billions of dollars where it was intended, but the really outcome of our involvement won't be fattened contractors, but a dangerous and provacative hard-line Islamic state. We are sacrificing American blood and bleeding the country financially dry to create a deadly enemy.

Institute the draft, pull ot now, plan a phased withdrawl, it doesn't matter. The damage has been done. We need to prepare for the consequence.

  • "I believe what was said was that they were using false information"

[Read the article: Limbaugh's latest: Let's bully journalists!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

When hasn't he claimed the old "false information" defence? I seem to remeber a whole lot of denials about his drug problems before he had to fess up.

You can blame Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter and the rest, but the real blame must fall on all the people who lap up their every word like they just shot out of a burning bush. Its a racket. They've found a very large, very gullible herd of sheep to fleece.

  • "Matt, you won't believe this. But I don't use the Internet."

[Read the article: A denial that admits too much?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I wonder if the unedited footage of the interview has Matt saying, "OH Senator! I've seen you on Manhunt."

  • Jonestown

[Read the article: Another SCHIP family smeared]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Interesting poll on NPR this morning. When asked, Republicans support the SCHIP program and the legislation expanding it, but by the same margin as the House they support the President's veto because they want to support George Bush's leadership. Amazing. If George Bush died his hair black and wore a bad polyester suit and Elvis sunglasses he'd have to trouble getting those people to come to his KoolAid party. Once again we see Republicans/conservatives supporting a leadership that is direct contrast to their own well being.

  • We won't attack Iran

[Read the article: The Iran hawks]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There will be alot of "Why I otta"s coming from the usual suspects, but we won't attack Iran. We can't. Our military is stretched to the breaking point now. Iraq has broken the bank. Iran could unleash hell if we bombed them...AND the Russians and Chinese would not sit idley by. When the first bomd drops on Iran gas goes up to $7 a gallon. All this talk is to stir up the red state Neaderthals and kiss their asses for votes.

The more sabre rattling we do, the more idiotic we look internationally, because everyone knows were in no position to back up our bluster. Our leadership (both parties) have turned us into a reviled joke.
