Original article: So long, white boy

In the end, it is exactly organizations like Salon which are most responsible for the election of George W. Bush.

No. YOU fell for a con man of the highest order who is lining his pockets with the blood of Americans and Iraqis and the destruction of this country. YOU would rather have a beer and bbq with him than a man who might have actually done this country some good. Look in the mirror and blame yourself.

Lumping all white male voters in one sack is completely unfair. For years the Democrats have been courting a subset of voters (bigoted, conservative male and female christians) at the expense of their base and the larger population. As long as the Republican party runs on God, Guns and Gays that demographic will be lost (thanfully) to the Democrats. What the Democrats need to do is articulate a clear direction for this country that address the common needs of the people. Write off the "bubbas" or whatever you want to call the bitter, bigotted (male and female) voters who will never be happy as long as people even slightly different from them exist in the nation.

Most of us 'good, ol' white boys' are never going back to the Democrats for sound reasons such as smaller government, less taxation, individual rights, morality, and common sense.

And let me ask if you honestly have found any of those things with the Republican party? Smaller government, less taxation (we are paying a huge price for the Republicans skewed tax cuts), individual rights, morality, and common sense all have taken a severe beating under the current Republican ascendancy.

All the Republicans have really accomplished is stokong the toxic divisions crippling this country. If the certain segment of white males (because it is merely a certain segment) didn't buy into the Limbaugh/Hannity/Fox News racist, homophobic, anti-women, anti-intellectual brand of propoganda stoking their impotent egos maybe things in this country wouldn't be quite as poisonous.

Blackwater: stupid questions

What's stopping a beligerant nation from hiring Blackwater to provide "security" for them that would not be in our best interest? So we have an independant army for all prictical purposes on our soil available for hire. Are there any restrictions on what Blackwater can do and who they can do business with? If we pull our "troops" out of Iraq will the war (and drain on our tax dollars) continue being fought exclusively by an independant mercenary army? What if a company that is in effect an army for hire with its own tanks, helocopters, advanced weapons and soldiers decides a change of our policy is not in THEIR best interest? Do we have a situation where a corporate army for hire is now, in a way, the President's paid Preatorian Guard? How much, if any, financial stakes do prominent politicians (include Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, etc.) have in Blackwater?

My stupid question is: What does, and what should, the American people know about the very shaddowy Blackwater?

Let me get this right...

We're slowly losing a war in Afganistan because we're bogged down in a catastrophic disaster in Iraq. Our soldiers are losing their lives and limbs. Iraqis are being killed by the score, and its a situation that is threatening our national security. Billions of our tax dollars are going to well connected contractor cronies and mercenaries. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. Mortgage foreclosures are skyrocketing. We may be on the verge of recession. Healthcare? The two party system has corroded to the point where it seems nothing can get done. The current adminstration has wipe its ass on the Constitution. We're ever more dependant on foriegn oil, and no viable alternative is on the reasonable horizon. Global warming...oh, and New Orleans is still trashed.

But abortion, gay bashing and porn videos are all these idiots are concerned with?

Block him

Plain and simple. Block the nomination.

Operation Phantom Thunder

You know, I saw some overweight middle-aged ladies wearing Operation Phantom Thunder sweatshirts over turtlenecks...Oh wait a minute! Wrong Phantom.

re: And what about the women who love them?

I saw a rerun of the Brady Bunch awhile back where Carol Brady

stopped by Mike's office. The receptionist asked who she was. Carol straightened up in a very proud way and with a beaming smile said, "I'm Mrs. MIKE Brady!" I cringed. I think "the women who love them" are alot like that...or like the American History X chicks.

That's the flaw of this article. It's NOT just "white males." Its a whole group of people, male and female, clinging to bigotted, bitter, beligerent beliefs and mindsets.

This was an inflamatory article, and I honestly don't think it served any great purpose except to incite a lot of letters, and a similar sterotypical photo would never have been permitted if the article had been about any other group. But have people notice the change in tone once Limbaugh posted a link on his website. Ugly insulting homophobic (because racist isn't tolerated out in the open anymore) letters. I said in an earlier post that is was this group (Limbaugh, Hannity, fox News and their followers who have largely created the divisions and coarseness stiffling any meaningfull discourse in this country.

I don't know what's more disturbing, the video, or the fact that most of the comments on the YouTube comments page are of the "that little faggot deserved it" variety.

Are you suprised? 90% of the comments posted on youtube (no matter what the video) seem to use the word "faggot." It was the same when yahoo had a comments section for their news stories. No matter what the article the comments were always littered with "faggot." Thye're just a handfull of sniveling little cowards hiding behind their keyboards.

I am really disappointed in John Kerry. He never seems able to step up when the moment arises. He would have been far, far better than George Bush, but in all honesty, a great leader? I don't think so.

This is like 1968 redux except with a crippling sence of ennui. There isn't much general outrage. The whole fabric of the country seems worn.

He shouldn't had been in a situation to resist

Its all on film. I hope he can nail those cops to the wall.

I earlier slammed John Kerry's reaction, and I still find it very weak...BUT if that had been a prominant Republican you can bet your ass the "town hall meeting" would have been stocked solely with Young Campus Republicans supplied with appropriated questions and the order to ask them.
