Maybe this deserves a big headline on Salon

from the Huffington Post on John McCain:

"It's good to know where the Senator stands on this issue (at least today). In my book, The Real McCain: Why Conservatives Don't Trust Him And Why Independents Shouldn't, I recount McCain' questionable past on issues of race his entire career. From the many years he rejected a Martin Luther King Jr. holiday (pretty much the entire 70s and 80s) to his serial flip-flops on the Confederate Flag in 2000 (which he admits he did for political reasons -- no way, not you Johnny!) to his close association with a white supremacist named Richard Quinn, who found himself hired as a political advisor by McCain in 2000 (and still is from what I can tell) after openly praising David Duke (he called him a "maverick") selling t-shirts praising the assassination of Abraham Lincoln and writing/editing for a magazine (Southern Partisan) that reminded us that slave masters just really weren't all that bad."

re: He should announce that he is an atheist, and that he has only affiliated himself with a church to advance his political career.

AMEN to that! That's what this country desperately needs: an athiest President interested in solving the problems of the here and now with intelligence and thoughtfullness.

It will never happen,

Rev. Wright may take care of himself

I though Wright came across very well in the Moyers interview, but since then things have gotten pretty odd. Clearly, he's capitalizing on the attention and turning himself into a cottage industry. I don't think he's said anything horrible or shocking, but his attitude and demeanor is completely egotistical and self serving. He's not going away, but the longer he sticks around, the more he goes from contoversy to joke. He'll be approachy Billy Carter-land any day now. He'll throw himself in front of any camera he sees and pretty soon people will be more bored than outraged by him. If he had remained nothing more than those short incendiary youtube clips, Wright would have been big trouble for Obama. Becoming a wackey, mugging media sensation makes him for all practical purposes the Clara Peller of 2008. And lets face it, he's not THAT outrageous. How much mileage will he get out of mimicing JFK? His shelf life will be very short, especially with Hannah Montana becoming the new Britney looming on the horizon.

Obama needs to act disgusted and sever all ties with him.

Original article: Obama responds to Wright

Let;s be honest here

does anyone really pay attention when their in church? I haven't been in years, but all I remember is daydreaming and being bored out of my mind.

I'm just sorry I forgot my subscription was on auto renewal

Is this Fox News?

I'm still mystified as to what Wright has said that was so inscendiary? That 9/11 was a result of our disastrous foreigh policy? Oh that's right, 9/11: they hate us because we love freedom. How could I have forgotten?

I am completely non religious (anti-religious you might say). Even so, being from Chicago I'm familar with that church. Its well known for the community work its done.. It amazes me that this is such a huge controversy, yet none of thes outraged rightous people are bothered in the least by these mega churches that feed off of bigotry and fear and fleece their flocks strictly for their own personal gain. The rabid racism that this campaign has already devolved into is apalling and tevery american should hang their head in shame. The world is watching...and shaking its head.

"Goddman America"? I think I have to agree.

When is Hillary Clinton going to renounce and reject the Vast Right Wing Conspiricy?

She's getting very cozy.

Juliebird, I think it is a pre-arranged farce

I think its pretty transparent. McCain has been intoduced twice by people making racial remarks. Both times he's made some weak, watery comment trying to distance himself. The moron from the veterans group supporting the Iraq war, I don't know about him, but McCain specifically invited the radio host AND he courted the Rev. Hagee's endorsement as well. He tsk, tsked the ads in North Carolina, but that was all he did. He's trying to create the illusion that he's above this sort of thing, but it aint working. You can't have it both ways.

On another note. What about Condi? Her name is still floating around as the magic bullet VP nominee that would combat both Obama or Clinton. I'm no fan of Dr. Rice, but I have to think the Republicans' tactic of ugly racial devide has to bother her. If they do turn to her as their token I sincerely hope she the self esteem to tell them to go fuck themselves.

Interesting

http://www.slate.com/blogs/blogs/trailhead/

The more visable he becomes, the more diluted the "controversy" may be. In the end it may just make these Republican ads look like the sleezy race-bating tactics they are.

In every appearance Rev. Wright has been making he seems further and further from the media-created monster. It may be a case of Obama not needed to difuse the situation. Wright seems to be doing that himself. At some point he's going to be seen as a victim.

Ok, so racists aren't going to vote for Obama because of Rev. Wright.

They weren't going to vote for him anyway.

Clinton/Lieberman. Watch for the bumperstickers soon.

re: Either Hillary will put all her energy into ensuring a McCain victory in November so she can run in 2012, or I wouldn't be shocked to see her running on the McCain ticket.

This is her only shot. After this she won't get another chance in 2012. It's now or never, and she's staring "never" in the face. After the final primary June 3rd. it will be over. Every primary will have taken place, and the super delegates can make their choice without being accused of subvverting the voters. Obama will lock up the nomination.

She's hated by Republican's with a passion. They'd rather see Jane Fonda as McCain's running mate. That door is closed, but I if she thinks she still has doners loyal, I wouldn't be surprised to see her run as an independant.

I say, 50/50 chance she tries to run independantly after Obama secures the nomination.
