The second the first network calls the election next Tuesday night Sarah Palin's political career is over. The establishment of the Republican Party will eviscerated in a matter of moments. She'll be blamed for the entire disaster. McCain will be allowed to limp off into retirement.
The Republican Party has to regroup and reform if it wants to be relevant in the future. Its most dependable "base" has become a toxic liability. The sights and sounds oozing out of the McCain and Palin rallies have been a national embarrassment played out for the whole world to see. There will be a brutal and bloody civil war in the GOP, and the Wall Street faction of old-time Republicans will take the party back from the christians. They have to in order to survive...and money trumps Jesus.
Palin is a trivia question in the making. She'll go back to alaska and find a host of troubles waiting for her. She'll resign or limp through the last two years of her term and end up where she wants to be...on tv. Politically, she will be remembered as one of the biggest blunders in Presidential politics. Any Republican wanting to run in 2012 will want to get as far away from the stench of this campaign as they can. The Party, itself, will have to make a big push for mainstream America. Every day another Republican is endorsing Obama. Scores of Republicans are recoiling from Palin.
By 2012 Sarah Palin will belucky to have a job on Home Shopping.
Everyone was waiting for the Bush adminstration to try and pull a rabbit out of their hat in the final moments and I think that rabbit is named Syria. If nothing else it will put Iraq, foreigh policy and national security in the forefront in these finals days. I suspect it won't work. This just looks so cravenly transparent. Its pouring gasoline on a fire that involves far more than an election. It could expand the situation far beyond Iraq. The impression it gives is of an administration, candidate and Party who completely disreguar national security, our armed forces and the international community for their own gain.
Its certainly suspicious that this happens just as John McCain is "guaranteeing" victory next week.
So we just bombed a site inside of syria. The October surprise? I have a feeling the nation is so sick of war it won't work. McCain's near senile behavior and Sarah Palin just a breath away isn't going to make an escalation of Iraq beyond it boarders a selling point for the Republicans. People can't see McCain capable of running his own campaign much less a nation in crisis. so now it will an even bigger mess for the Obama adminstration to clean up.
"Brokaw frequently tried to interrupt McCain, as opposed to letting Powell make an uninterrupted speech last week"
Brokow didn't let Powell make an uninterrupted speech. Powell's demeanor was clear, "Don't interrupt me."
I think he's realized he's lost far more than election. He's lost his reputation, his dignity and whatever short future he may have had in national politics. He's lost more than a personal election. His tawdry campaign has exposed the Republican Party and its vile base for what it really easy. For years they've stayed one step ahead by appealing to fear and uncertainty. They've co-opted the very notion of values and morality and bullied everyone into a terrified acceptance of those twisted morals and values. Its all been exposed as trash. THe public has finally woken up to the truth of these people.
Oh yeah, he's lost.
Oh there's NO question in my mind. I've been saying that for weeks.
She's not interested in politics. She's interested in being on tv.
I didn't see him, but I knew he was there. I could feel him. When he grabbed me I didn't scream just let out a slight anxious breath. We fought,oh how we fought, as we fell to the ground. He was on top of me like a slab of chisled granite. I struggled and pushed against him until my resistence was spent. I cried out "McCain! McCain!" His fury was explosive and passionate. I felt something pressed against my cheek as he murmered, "Barack Hussein Obama will take a long time, baby." Suddenly, I heard footsteps, frantic and strong. The weight was lifted from me and I saw the dark figure speed away. Joe the Plumber. He was standing over me, reaching down and lifting me up. I melted into his saftey. He gently put me down into Sarah Palin's arms and hurried off to follow the dark force. "what happened?" Sarah asked. "I don't remember" I said, "its like a dream." She looked at me brightly and said, "I bet you're knocked up."
maybe she has fake boobs
...and let me guess, "I have many negro friends."
Where are the party leaders, the elder statesmen? The only Republicans crawling out of the woodwork are the lunatic fringe. It seems like the Republican establishment has gone into hiding. The McCain/Palin campaign has become a freakshow that's only attracting the bottom feeders. Its appropriate that their nominee would be an cancerous old man woefully behind the times. The Party itself is malignant and stale.
On November 5th the Republican Party will have to face a grim future with a base that has become toxic. I think we will see a real battle over the soul of the Republican Party. We may be wittnessing the collapse of the ugly right wing conservatism that has held the party in its grip for years.
If it were "gay" we'd see some incredible bodies, not the Poppin' Fresh Doughboy x 8.
At this point is there anyway he can make a dignified, graceious concession speech? He'll have to send Joe Lieberman out to say, "Sen.McCain just spoke to Sen. Obama, we have no other comment."
