The Filmgoer's Companion

Under significant entries there are lists of quotes about the person from people they've worked with and other famous associates. Joan Crawford has a long list of quotes under her entry, none of them flattering. But the most telling was from Louis B. Mayer. He said, "If that was my kid, I would have beat her, too."

Was Baldwin's message harsh and alarming? Sure. But we don't know what his situation is or what he's been dealing with at the hands his ex-wife and daughter. Their personal lives are none of my business or anyone else's...and they certainly shouldn't be served up for entertainment for people pretending to be outraged.

They should have asked her...

...if the President would veto a funding bill that stipulated no bid-contracts to highly connected war-profiteering corporations, and an open-ended commitment that would guarantee our presence in Iraq for at least a decade to come.

After the last two presidential elections I don't have much faith in the American public, but I can't help but think we're at the point where people feel they've been "had," and now everytime Bush, Cheney and Rice open their mouths no one is buying it. They're lies and distortions have taken on a rediculous quality of epic perportions. I don't think the Democratically controlled congress can actually change the direction this nightmare is heading, but they can throw up roadblocks and shine an increasingly harsh light on it. Hopefully, by the time Bush slinks away this current incarnation of the Republican Party will have lost all credibility.

I'm sure she'll be polite.

Perhaps she'll play a little piano or perform a nice little skating routine to something from Cats for him.

Original article: The president's veto

"a rigid and artificial deadline" vs stalling for time

The complete lack of direction and purpose in the Bush administration's handling of Iraq is astounding. Clearly the only intention is to keep the situation in limbo until the next president has to deal with it. At this point the only objectives seem to be keep the cash faucet pouring money over its croney contractors and, most importantly, securing a sweet deal on those oil fields for the big oil companies. Everything else (support the troops, fight them there so we don't have to fight them here, spread democracy) is just smoke and mirrors.

The Democrats need to articulate a clear plan and a clear direction for cleaning up this mess NOW. It shouldn't be some murky, meaningless rhetoric coming from the presidential candidates. A clear, well thought out plan NOW. Democratic leaders should be reaching out to allies and neighboring states of Iraq now (much as Pelosi did in Syria). The best way to deal with George Bush, Dick Cheney, Rice, and the rest of this failed administration is to marginalize them as much as posible. Move forward as much as constitutionally possible in a new direction now. Reduce George Bush to what he really is a venal mouthpiece spouting dishonest slogans. Concrete ideas well articulated backed up by as much action as possible would throw the Bush administration, the extreme elements of the Republican Party and Fox News on the trash heap of irrelevancy. But the public needs something concrete, not just posturing from the Democrats. We will have a Democratic president elected in 2008, and they must have a plan up and running before that happens.

Gore = Hitler

They must be really terrified Al Gore will jump into the presidential race.

There is an interesting scene in Jesus Camp (a great horror film) that shows one of the kids being home-schooled by his terrifying mother. She doesn't appear very bright or educated, and she ridicules global warming in the most ignorant fashion. Its like she's living in some delusional alternate universe. Everyday there are more findings, more information, about climate change and its man-made causes. The information no longer functions to "prove" global warming, but rather to further our knowledge and understanding of the condition.

I think were seeing the right wing fad coming to an end. Its being relegated to cable news shows and talk radio. It got trendy with the mainstream when Limbaugh first took off, and now its pretty much gassed. That;s why the nonsence spewing from conservatives sounds more and more hysterical.

Very soon...

...someone will yell, "You suck!" during an uncomfortable silence in one of his speeches. Its just a matter of time.

It will be interesting to see how many contortions his supporters and media mouthpieces have to twist themselves into to explain, rationalize and defend his ever more idiotic and senceless statements. This one has to be close to the tipping point where he finds himself alone.

I've said it so often: The asshole was pelted with eggs on the way in, and he'll be pelted with eggs on the way out.

More than a headline

"President Bush and congressional leaders began negotiating a second war funding bill yesterday, with Democrats offering the first major concession: an agreement to drop their demand for a timeline to bring troops home from Iraq."

How else should they have described it? That fucking bill should have been sent back to him, as is, untill he signed it. They backed down. He didn't.

Keep Fatty McFat roasting on the spit for awhile.

I hope the Democrats drag their heals abit where Mr. Rove is concerned. Nail his fat ass to the wall the minute George Bush slinks out of office so he can't be pardoned.

Put it on Lifetime where it belongs

The whining and over-the-top handwringing over every little thing. The characters have become cartoons. End it and get it over with already. The series was gassed after season two.
